I like it. It look's like an English flag but it also resembles the crest on their back of Inter's shirts.

I thought we did alright, but we need to be more clinical in the final third. We're impressively difficult to break down, if you give England nothing else you have to give them that. No defensive midfielders starting and only one first choice defender, the rest being third choice (at best). And against Brazil as well.

Just because he's not got past performances and the "name" yet, hes instantly disregarded. He didnt get long but the time he was on the pitch, he was better then Owen and Smith. At least he tried to make things happen.

There's a programme on Channel 4 this Thursday called The Million Pound Footballers' Giveaway. Here's the Radio Times' description:

Economist Noreena Hertz persuading footballers from the most recent season's Premiership clubs to donate a day's wages to hard-up nurses. No preview DVDs were available, but as a way to highlight how we undervalue key workers, it sounds inspired - with the added pleasure of a possible glimpse inside the sordid, money-soaked world of football.

Now, a day's wages is a lot of money from Premiership footballers, certainly in the thousands, tends of thousands for those right at the top. But it seems rather...stingy all the same. Like they couldn't afford to give a week's wages at least. I would hope all top footballers are regularly making donations to things like this anyway of course.

I guess a day's wages though is to highlight the ridiculous differences, how even a day's wage can cover a massive amount of a nurses' annual salary. I'm looking forwards to it, I doubt it'd make much difference in the long run but it'd be nice if it did.

There seem to be lots of footballers involved, I saw Reo-Coker, Pedersen, Giggs, Jamie Redknapp (does...does he get a week's wages anymore?) on the advert and there were plenty more, I wasn't paying attention.

Anyway, Mourinho's talking about Chelsea's spending, or lack thereof:

“Roman is the boss, that doesn’t change,” Mourinho told The Times. “The change in philosophy is not because Mr Abramovich turned off the tap. The philosophy is we spent money before, built the squad for a long time and don’t need to make big investments season after season.

“Last season to this season, we will have basically the same squad. The squad can be together for a few more years so we don’t have big needs. If you don’t have big needs, why spend big money?”

Mourinho opted to join battle with a small squad last season, but the decision backfired when injuries to key players punctured the club’s challenge for honours. “If you tell me we have exactly the same squad as last season without injuries, I accept immediately,” Mourinho said. “I don’t need one single more player or one single more pound.”

So they already have 3 new players (and Johnson back from his loan), anymore than that and it's becoming less and less like the same squad as last year. Are we already done with Chelsea's "spending" too?

I figure Boulahrouz and Geremi will be sold at the very least. I thought Ferreira would be sold too, but I don't see how that's an option if they're not going to spend to bring in another right back. So, if I'm right, Chelsea's squad next year would look something like this:

Now in goal, left back, midfield and up front (as Kalou could play there too if necessary), there's no problem. That's all sorted.

What is a problem is centre back and right back. AGAIN. Those are three awesome players at centre back, but the problem isn't their quality, it's their lack of numbers. Why would they do this to themselves again, all it takes is one player to pick up a long term injury and then everyone's on tenterhooks, hoping neither of the other two gets injured or suspended. And they're bound to at some point. Just get a 4th centre back Mourinho!

Right back has the numbers, but it's still an obvious weakness, this time because of quality. Ferreira has shown he's not good enough, and while I prefer Johnson I don't think he's Chelsea standard either. There are some good right backs on the market at the moment, Chelsea should do themselves a favour and snap them up, 'cos I guarantee you Ronaldo wants to run at Johnson a lot more than he does Micah Richards.

I don't think having 5 new players could count as having basically the same squad as last year, it's a normal amount of transfers any side would make at the end of a season, but I still think Chelsea will bring in one more player at least, despite what Mourinho says. Richards is actually perfect as he can play right back or centre back, but maybe they can still get Ben Haim. It seems like he might end up at Newcastle instead now, but Chelsea could maybe get him if they assure him he'll have a good chance of being regular right back, which he can play. Not as good as Richards though, as you'd prefer to have a player who's best at right back but can play centre back too, rather than the other way round.

Anyway, if Chelsea don't buy at least one more defender I think they're just making the same mistakes they did last season.
