Gilberto silva has once again been linked with a move away from arsenal. Reports in italy say that he could be going to juve, but I wouldnt take any juve transfer news seriously at the moment. Each day they are linked with someone new. There midfiled targets have gone from fat frank to sissoko to gilberto, whilst their recent striking targets have been just about anyone, even eto'o was linked at one point, but then again Eto'o has been linked to everyone. I wouldnt be surprised to see a rumour about keane spending all his transfer money to bring eto'o to sunderland.

To be fair, Gilberto was being linked with Juve a couple of months ago, so there might be some weight with that one. Having said that, I don't think Wenger will sell him unless he believes Denilson and/or Diaby are ready to fully take over for him.

Cantona rules BTW...the Nike ad campaigns he did the past two World Cups were just fantastic.

Was just about to post that, Valencia trailing 2-1 and Sevilla still tied 0-0.

I have a feeling all hell will brake lose in the second halves

Did Messi just punch that ball in? I'm watching the Madrid game mainly, but it pops up a little window whenever something happens at the Nou Camp. it's so small though, I couldn't make out whether he headed it or punched it.

He really is Maradona 2 :O

He practically made the same goal as Maradona's hand of God. ****ing piece of shit! Barca are such a bunch of dirty mother****ers and the refs are even dirtier!

Come on Madrid!!!

Will he be proud if they win the title that way? I read an article aaaaages ago about Maradona's hand of god thing saying how in latin america, conning the ref is seen as something to be proud of, it's crafty. Whereas under our moral standings, it's shameful.

So maybe that seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do to him, no different than tricking a defeder with a shimmy...though that of course is within the rules of the game...

It is shameful in Latin America too. It's just stupid argentinians and followers of a false idol like Maradona that actually think it's worthy of their respect.

:lol :lol I love ya Becks... he just slapped Aimar in the face right in front of the ref and no card was shown. I should watch La Liga more often this is entertaining as hell.

[edit] WHAT A GOAL!!!!! Aimar to Diego ......wow

How was Diego's goal? Liverpool might get him if transfer funds don't come.

That was really exciting. Messi can go to hell.

I thought I must have missed an Espanyol goal and Barca had lost when Madrid ran onto the pitch on the end.

:lol :lol :lol I had to use Footie Fox and the thread to follow the last few minutes...total hilarity. I oughta hit a bar next week, or finally get around to ordering Gol TV.

That was amazing football reminded me alot of our match vs Everton and all the twists and turns in that one... good stuff Madrid Im happy for some old friends today.

It was pretty impressive I think the setup was better but the finish was class.

Wow. That was dramatic.

And Beckham is such a great player. How the hell did we let someone like him go and yet still have worthless shit like Richardson hanging around?

Wow. That was dramatic.

Preach it!

This is an end to a league!

Thankfully that cheating Messi bam didn't make any difference on the night (although to be fair I really do think he was trying to head it :lol Ok so maybe not :lol )

Just came back from the pub after watching the Sky transmission - that was some great fitba!

Man Utd must be daft for getting rid of the Rudster!

Rudd's a great player and I was rooting for him the whole game but really the Rudd that first showed up at OT was very different from the Rudd that left it. La Liga's pace suits an older, slower Van Nistelrooy. He's still an amazing finisher which is why he has been successful.

:lol @ Wikipedia

"Lionel Andrés Messi (born 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Argentina) is an Argentine international football player and leading cheater, who currently plays for FC Barcelona in the Primera División."

A bloody fantastic match. But in other news:

United swoop for Tevez: Sir Alex wants Argentine star on year’s loan

Manchester United have made a sensational bid to sign Carlos Tevez, the striker whose controversial move to West Ham cost the east London club a record £5.5 million fine for breaking transfer regulations.

Discussions have taken place between high-ranking Old Trafford officials and connections of Tevez, 23. Hijacking the brilliant Argentina forward from under the nose of north-west rivals Liverpool would eclipse even United's recent £50m splash for Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson.

The deal, initially thought to be on a loan basis for at least a season, would depend on removing the complications which surrounded Tevez's arrival at Upton Park last August from Brazilian club Corinthians.

The issues had deterred United manager Sir Alex Ferguson from taking up an option to sign the striker and his international team-mate, midfielder Javier Mascherano, when they were offered to United last summer.

Tevez was offered to everybody,' said Ferguson. We were offered both him and Mascherano but, if I remember it correctly, we weren't sure of the deal.'

The controversial disciplinary action against West Ham raised a furore because the Premier League's independent commission refused to impose a points penalty on the relegation-threatened club. Tevez built on that reprieve by scoring six goals in West Ham's amazing run of seven wins in their last nine matches as Alan Curbishley's team escaped the drop.

It included the only goal of the game against champions United at Old Trafford when the issue was settled on the final day.

Sheffield United were condemned to relegation instead and responded by threatening legal action.

Ferguson has been unstinting in his admiration for the part Tevez played in West Ham's survival.

He is the one who lifted their game,' Sir Alex said. He scored a couple of really good free-kicks and seems to have a lot of enthusiasm.'

Don't forget the Euopean U21 Championship starts Sunday evening, Netherlands - Israel is the first match and then Portugal - Belgium. The second match should be particularly interesting for United fans, as Nani is bound to play.

I want to see Moutinho as well to see what the fuss is.

I am more looking forward to the under 20 world cup starting on the 30th of June. It actually has Austria in it, much to my amazement we qualified. Same team that was in the final of the under 16 Euro 2 or 3 years ago.

edit: it's in Canada. Shinobi can watch in Toronto

Wenger pledges to honour contract
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he will be at the club next season but the Frenchman stopped short of committing his long-term future to the club.

Wenger's future at Arsenal has been thrown into question by the departure of vice-chairman David Dein in April.

"I've a contract for one more year here and I'll complete that contract," Wenger told the News of the World.

"I've never broken a contract in my entire career and next summer I will sit down with the board and see."

Arsenal finished fourth in the Premiership last season, but Wenger is confident his side will improve on that position next season.

"There's absolutely no need to panic. We finished fourth in the table - level on points with Liverpool - and we've a very young side which, I believe, can improve again this season," said Wenger.

"We'll bring in new people only if they're exceptional players."

not quite as good as possible, but better than nothing. I very much hope things can be worked out and he will sign a new contract. He is the most important man at the club without a shadow of a doubt.

it really starts to look like this is the truth.

This is another reason why I hope Arsenal can avert a takeover. How can you trust those people. They're not in for football, they want to make money. And it's not so easy to make money from a football club, in particular if you're going to spend a lot of money.

There was a great interview with one of the Arsenal board members (I forget who it was) where he said the very same thing, I see if I can dig it up.

Didnt the liverpool owners just spend however many hundred million pounds on a new stadium?

Seriously, i could do a better job than these 'journalists' it's like their brains just dont work. If i can read one line of a rumour and think up 2 reasons why it's absolute shit, they should be fired.

PSV's Beasley keen on Rangers move - agent
tribalfooball.com - June 09, 2007

The agent of PSV Eindhoven winger DaMarcus Beasley admits he's keen on a move to Rangers.

Beasley, 25, is presently with PSV Eindhoven, but agent Lyle Yorks hopes that the Scottish club can agree a fee with the player's Dutch employers.
"I can confirm there is interest in DaMarcus from Rangers and he would be delighted to join a club of their stature," Yorks told the Daily Record. "He's spoken to Claudio Reyna many times about his time in Glasgow.
"He knows all about Walter Smith's terrific track record as a manager and would love to play for him, despite interest from England and Europe. "DaMarcus has one year left on his contract at PSV. So, if a move does go ahead, there will have to be a transfer fee involved.
"He's definitely not going back to Eindhoven."

Chelsea to sign and loan back PSV's Da Costa
tribalfooball.com - June 10, 2007

Chelsea are ready to sign - and immediately loan back - PSV Eindhoven fullback Manuel Da Costa.

The Portuguese youngster has been watched by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in U21 action this season and is high on the Blues' shopping list.

Mourinho wants to meet PSV's £6 million asking price this summer and 'park' Da Costa in Holland for another 12 months.

"I haven't been contacted by Chelsea," said Da Costa recently. "However, they're one of the great clubs in football and I am really pleased that they're interested in me."

That'd be great. Would free up some more transfermoney for us, without having to worry to sign a new central defender immediately.

it was an interview with Danny Fiszman on Arsenal TV. Here's what he said:

"we are open to anything that will improve the club, but we will have to be seriously convinced that it actually would improve the fortunes of the club. I joined the board in 92, since then we had tremendous success on the pitch, we built a fabulous young team, we've built the stadium - a great stadium - and we also built a state of the art training ground. And all that's been done with our own resources, we've done everything in a sensible and financially conservative way.

Other than Chelsea we've seen no evidence of big amounts being put into the clubs and in the end all the money that is going to be invested is going to have to be a return - and there has to be a return. I will listen to anything that will improve the club, but I think it's going to be very very difficult to explain to me and to the rest of the board how you can actually make a substential investement, which would be, I dunno 4, 5, 600 million pound, expect a return for that, which could be, you know, if it's just 8 - 10 % return you are talking about 50 million or so, that's gotta come out of the club, otherwise there's no point in making the purchase. So I don't know how they can improve the finances of the club by that sort of amount."

quickly transcribed by me. He raises some excellent points. A takeover doesn't mean magic money starting to grow on trees.

Yeah, should be very interesting. All of the participating teams have some great players. I'll be watching as much games as possible, they're all broadcasted live here in Holland.

Man Utd Fail With £25m Eto'o Bid, Focus On Tevez

The Mail on Sunday suggests that the Red Devils failed in a bid to land Samuel Eto'o, and also links them with a move for Carlos Tevez, as the signing of a striker begins to look increasingly likely.

Manchester United have already spent in excess of 75 million euros on Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson, and seemed unlikely to spend big bucks.

However, CEO David Gill had promised yesterday that more cash could be splashed if the right player, particularly a quality striker, were to become available.

"We've looked at it and if something comes along in another area, which is a striker, we'll see what happens," he had said.

"If anything does happen it will be in the striking department."

Almost on cue come reports that they made an optimistic bid of just under 40 million euros for Barcelona ace Samuel Eto'o, who has been tipped by many to leave the club at the end of the season.

However, they have failed to land the Cameroon international, and unwilling to go higher, are now said to be focusing on West Ham's Carlos Tevez.

"He is the one who lifted their game [for West Ham]," Alex Ferguson has said. "He scored a couple of really good free-kicks and seems to have a lot of enthusiasm."

Manchester United have mooted the idea of a one year loan deal, though Milan are currently favourites as they are willing to offer cash to secure his registration.

Atletico Madrid skipper Fernando Torres is said to be the number three on the list. He signed a new contract with Atleti last summer, lowering his buy-out clause from 90 million euros to a very gettable 40. He has been on Sir Alex Ferguson's wish list for a while.

What looks certain, though, is that a new striker will be signed this summer.

Looks like Owen is looking to get out of Newcastle now that he is back in the spotlight.
Seems like a return to Anfield is on the cards if Liverpool pay the amount needed in the butout clause of his contract.
Could be a good option for Benetiz as he like he is being dicked around with by the new American owners.

Not really, we won the league without him and out team looks incredible at the moment. Ruuds loss did hurt, but saha's form during 2006 made it less of a concern. Ruuds the better finisher, but saha is a more complete player.
