Clever for Chelsea...

One of their biggest rivals is now unable to bring in a world class player for 5 months...

We've already argued this point, I have nothing new to say on it in the last 5 mins.

Dude, turn your sensitivity levels down. Maybe on other forums that's being a dick, but on gaf? That's like hugging.

You know, big players attract big players. West Ham could be challenging for the CL in a few years....yeah I said it!

News just in:
Dwight Yorke gone to Sunderland (not that anyone cares).[/QUOTE]

Along with Liam Miller and Kavanagh.

Damn. GG West Ham. Tevez and Mascherano?! Seriously, why didn't they hold out for a better club? Either the contract offers were huge or... ah, great piece of business by the West Ham manager in any case.

Osorio said:
Wasn't he playing in Australia? I would've stayed there rather than go to Sunderland.

Yeah, he was playing at Sydney FC; through to the end of his career apparently. But since (fellow ex-Man Utd) Roy Keane took up the position as manager over at Sunderland, it looks like he's used his personal influence to bring Yorke over.

Im sure its not as simple as more money...

The BBC said:
In May, Kia Joorabchian, the president of London-based MSI, said: "Tevez will leave Corinthians if a team pays the contract's release clause, which is between £69m and £83m."

Both Tevez and Mascherano returned to Argentina's squad for Sunday's friendly against Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium after signings their deals.

West Ham must've sold something of theirs to pull this off. I hear Advertising Rights would be one thing, but there must be some shares involved in there too.

Are any of you guys reading the Guardian Unlimited live blog of the transfer day? Seriously funny stuff. To quote about the West Ham Due Deal:

West Ham's official site confirms - get this - the PERMANENT signings of Cartos Tevez and Javier Mascherano "for an undisclosed fee". Oh. My. God. I don't know where to start with that news, but here's a neon sign for conspiracy theorists. "All other aspects of the transfers will remain confidential and undisclosed." Got that? I've seen Eric Cantona move from Leeds to Man Utd, I've seen Jim Robinson move from Erinsborough to Hollywood, I've seen four figures disappear from my account after some swine cloned my bank card - but this, without question, is the most jaw-dropping transfer in history.

:lol :lol Should really check it out: http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,1862241,00.html

Yeah Marcotti said Man U, Arsenal & Chelsea all had their shots at both and failed to reach an agreement.

He then said the west ham deal would be filled with release clauses for big club & certain amounts of money, it makes sense that Chelsea, Man U & Arsenal would reject such deals, given the money that Real, Barca & the Italians like to throw around.

Im sure Kia Joorabchians relationship with West Ham has had something to do with the deal, they said after failing to buy West Ham that they would continue to monitor the situation, my hope is that they've decided that dropping their players (they do 'own' them) into the squad makes it easier to agree a valuation with the Browns.

Though more likely is that West Ham are being treated as a store window for the two players, and Kia has just chosen them given his fondness of the club, if this is the case WH will see very little of the final transfer fee when they eventually get their big money deal.

Either way 2 world class players for us for at least a season so im chuffed.

so were apparently on the verge of letting Solskjaer go on loan to Sunderland for 4months.

WTF Fergie stop giving strikers away. Ok this and Rossi make sense due them both needing first team football but wtf bring someone in!

Surely not. That could be 1/3 of the rest of his career out on loan for all we know. If that's going ahead, I can only assume it means United have another striker lined up...though if so they've done extremely well to keep it quiet.

West Ham are trying to sell Tevez and Co. already:

"No sooner have West Ham signed two of the world's best young players than they're preparing their fans for their sale. "These are exciting signings for us," spraffs West Ham media spokesman Phil Hall, lining up the inevitable 'but'. "But, of course, if we were offered major fees for the players at a later date we would have to consider it - as we would with other players."

I seriously have no idea what's going on anymore.

Milner has gone back up to Newcastle too, recalled literally minutes before signing the contract.

Where was that posted?

The Guardian analysis is very funny. Here is more:

Alan Pardew gets giddy. Very giddy. "I have no doubt that this deal will give us a real chance to compete with the very best teams in the Premiership and in Europe," he Cheshire-cats. "Our Chairman Terry Brown came to me on Monday and gave me the opportunity to go for Carlos and Javier - and you don't turn down the chance to sign two world class players. When I met the players, though, I didn't have to sell West Ham United to them. They knew all about our success last season and our style of play, as the Premiership is shown on TV in South America every week." Well, quite. Which world-class youngster could turn down the chance to learn from and play alongside Christian Dailly?

excellent, now we only need Clichy back. 15 million plus Gallas is brilliant - he is exactly the player Arsenal have been missing.

You've got to be kidding me. Gallas plus £15m?! :lol *applauds Arsenal*

Blackburn have signed Nonda on a year's loan. Apparently he was a £15m transfer once, so looks like a good deal.

Come on manyoo do something I'm bored.

Wouldn't be suprised if they buy/loan some foreign striker before the end of the evening. I mean they haven't got many people to call upon up front at the moment have they, especially with Ole and Rossi loaned out.

Man, something's fishie about Tevez and Mascherano going to West Ham. It just doesn't make any sense. Anyway, good for West Ham, they just signed two players who normally be out of their league (har har).

On to something else though. I never thought I'd see the day, this is most certainly the weirdest transfer of the year in Holland:

108706_296_1157041239161-Kluivert3753.jpg

I hope Kluivert finds his way again, I like the guy. He is a great player. It won't be easy for him in Holland - from what I understand he is not best liked man in his homecountry.

Anyway it seems Arsenal are getting Baptista plus 2 million for Reyes and Gallas plus 15 million for Cole.

If the deals don't fall through (which both of them still could appearantly) it proves once again that Wenger is the king of transfers.

Look at that "I can't believe I've fooled another club" smile.

The Solskjaer loan thing is just a rumour, I don't expect anything from United before midnight. Perhaps they're still trying to get Hargreaves, but I doubt it.

I think the Reyes/Baptista thing is going to be a loan swap, so no money involved.

But then, I thought the world was spherical this morning and then Tevez and Mascherano signed for West Ham.

It is rumoured there will be a big announcement from Man United this evening, though whether it's Hargreaves, Reo-Coker, Trezeguet, Torres, Djemba-Djemba or Adamson, nobody yet knows.

Still some excitement due this evening then!

Torres to Manchester United would be icing on the cake for today.

Kia, The Iranian guy who used to run MSI (the owner of Tevez and Mascherano (Im gonna have to learn how to spell Mascherano)) was on Radio 5 live for a long time rebuffing all the talk of any russian shareholders or interest.

He also said, as i did earlier that they have had a great relationship with Terrance Brown and Paul Aldridge (West Ham MD) since the proposed buy out. And thats effectively why the two are joining the club (although he went on a little rant about history and the fans). He didnt give out any details of the deal but he made it clear that other clubs had been interested but because they could make the deal they could with West Ham, they went for it.

So basically, again as i said, West Ham are a shop window for the two players, by agreeing to that they got them cheap/free for at least a season, but the impression i got is that they are under no pressure to sell them, id imagine MSI are in no rush right now, they are only 22 they know their big money signing will come. So if West Ham excel they might get to keep them for longer.

Whoever thought that having a do-nothing pay-nothing chairman would pay off!

Pardew has likend Tevez to Paulo Di Canio, Tevez has apparently booked the first flight home, terrified of the pressure of trying to live up to such hype.

Meanwhile Hayden Mullins has been seen at JJB sports buying some tracksuit bottoms...he'll need em.

Kia also confirmed that MSI would NOT be directly investing in any european football teams, so my buyout theory is out the window :(.

If Man Utd do surprise us before midnight, Im guesing they'll either annouce that they've signed hargreaves or trezeguet, however I doubt there will be any surprise.

Im still trying to get my head around west ham signing tevez and mascherano. Its such an incredible achievement.

Im trying to find a site that reports that the cole-gallas deal has gone through but I cant find it anywhere.

Kromkamp surely wasn't shit when he played for AZ. He had a hard time settling in at both Villarreal and Liverpool. I'm sure he'll be a nice addition to our squad.

Also, Dutch media is reporting that Michaell Ball might follow Ooijer and move to Blackburn.

Mama Smurf said:
Well we do need a younger left back than Gray, so that wouldn't surprise me. Does he play for PSV regularly?

Nope, practically no matches at all. We used Lamey on left last year, he only played a couple of times. Never made much of an impression.

We got him from Glasgow last year, at the last day of the transfermarket, just like today hehe.

Btw, just to prove I'm not making things up, here's the link. All it says is that Ball might follow Ooijer and leave for Blackburn.

Some MLS news:
HUNT FAMILY ANNOUNCES SALE OF WIZARDS TO KANSAS CITY BASED ONGOAL LLC

Lamar Hunt representing the Hunt family announced today that the organization has completed the sale of the family's interest in the Kansas City Wizards and their related interest in Soccer United Marketing (SUM) to a six person group of Kansas City area residents led by Cerner Corporation executives Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig.

The purchasing group also includes Pat Curran, David French, Greg Maday and Robb Heineman. Biographical information on all six investors is attached.

The acquiring entity is OnGoal LLC. The purchase documents were signed yesterday and the new ownership group will take over operation of the Wizards on September 1. All current Wizards employees will continue with the organization.

The Hunts have been an Investor-Operator in Major League Soccer since the league began in 1996, and have operated the Wizards for 10 plus seasons. The organization has brought several significant championships to Kansas City, including

2000 MLS Supporter's Shield - best regular season record
2000 MLS Cup - 1-0 over the Chicago Fire at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
2004 U.S. Open Cup - 1-0 over the Chicago Fire at Arrowhead Stadium

Lamar Hunt, who has been involved in the professional sports scene in Kansas City for 44 years, concluded the announcement with these remarks:

We are especially pleased to have been able to consummate this transaction with the end result that the Wizards will remain in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. We had numerous inquiries from potential investors who wanted to move the team to other communities. Fortunately, the leadership of OnGoal have a passion for the Heart of America and I am convinced that they will achieve the much-needed Soccer-Specific-Stadium for the area and contribute to the long-range success of MLS.

We are delighted that Cliff and Neal and the other members of OnGoal have been added to the ownership group of MLS. They bring the total different ownership groups to nine for the 13 MLS teams. The addition of committed, financially able partners further strengthens the league. The Hunts have continuing financial involvement in MLS in Columbus and Dallas, and we welcome the addition of the new MLS partners in Kansas City.

We want to thank the many employees both on and off the field who have been dedicated disciples for the organization. General Manager Curt Johnson has labored long and hard and helped craft competitive teams on the field. Our former coach Bob Gansler won three significant championships for the organization and I would be remiss if I did not mention four employees who have been here from "Day One" - Evelyn Bray, Dan Faggard, Martie Harter and Chet North.

The final story of the "success" of Major League Soccer has yet to be written. In my opinion it is well on the way and certain to come. The recent completion by MLS of five new long-term TV contracts with ABC, ESPN, Univision, Fox Soccer Channel and HDNet are significant in that they will bring broad increased exposure and important revenue to the league.

Lastly, the development of Soccer-Specific-Stadiums and the accompanying revenue streams have also brightened the future of the league. Two more new stadiums in Denver and Toronto will open in 2007, and the New York Red Bulls will break ground next month following the lead of Real Salt Lake which broke ground several weeks ago. These additions mean that nine of the 13 MLS teams will be in Soccer-Specific-Stadiums by 2008 - 2009.
That's another team with individual ownership, and they got to stay in Kansas City with a stadium plan already made. I hope this new ownership group does a good job because Kansas City has been known by MLS fans for its low attendances. Many games are like the Queen's Park games at Hampden Park.

Arsenal Icelandic site has been updated with Cole/ Gallas news:

9.35pm Thanks to Ajay Arora who supplies this link to Arsenal's Icelandic website: click here . If you're not fluent in Icelandic like me, you might not fully understand it, so here's the gist: Arsenal are receiving £8.5m and Gallas for Cole. Just the i's and t's to be dotted and crossed.

9.53pm Sky Sports News have just reported that Villarreal have offered Arsenal £2m to take Pascal Cygan away from Highbury (sic). Presumably Arsene Wenger left Cygan there when the rest of the club moved to the Emirates Stadium. We'll see how that one develops.

9.55pm Scrap what I just wrote. Arsenal have accepted Villarreal's £2m bid - well, would you think about it for any longer. That must mean Gallas is heading their way.

I have nothing to add.
