One of their biggest rivals is now unable to bring in a world class player for 5 months...

Tim the Wiz said:Damn. GG West Ham. Tevez and Mascherano?! Seriously, why didn't they hold out for a better club? Either the contract offers were huge or... ah, great piece of business by the West Ham manager in any case.
The BBC said:In May, Kia Joorabchian, the president of London-based MSI, said: "Tevez will leave Corinthians if a team pays the contract's release clause, which is between £69m and £83m."
Both Tevez and Mascherano returned to Argentina's squad for Sunday's friendly against Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium after signings their deals.
West Ham's official site confirms - get this - the PERMANENT signings of Cartos Tevez and Javier Mascherano "for an undisclosed fee". Oh. My. God. I don't know where to start with that news, but here's a neon sign for conspiracy theorists. "All other aspects of the transfers will remain confidential and undisclosed." Got that? I've seen Eric Cantona move from Leeds to Man Utd, I've seen Jim Robinson move from Erinsborough to Hollywood, I've seen four figures disappear from my account after some swine cloned my bank card - but this, without question, is the most jaw-dropping transfer in history.

WTF Fergie stop giving strikers away. Ok this and Rossi make sense due them both needing first team football but wtf bring someone in!
No sooner have West Ham signed two of the world's best young players than they're preparing their fans for their sale. "These are exciting signings for us," spraffs West Ham media spokesman Phil Hall, lining up the inevitable 'but'. "But, of course, if we were offered major fees for the players at a later date we would have to consider it - as we would with other players."

It is rumoured there will be a big announcement from Man United this evening, though whether it's Hargreaves, Reo-Coker, Trezeguet, Torres, Djemba-Djemba or Adamson, nobody yet knows.
Mama Smurf said:Well we do need a younger left back than Gray, so that wouldn't surprise me. Does he play for PSV regularly?
That's another team with individual ownership, and they got to stay in Kansas City with a stadium plan already made. I hope this new ownership group does a good job because Kansas City has been known by MLS fans for its low attendances. Many games are like the Queen's Park games at Hampden Park.HUNT FAMILY ANNOUNCES SALE OF WIZARDS TO KANSAS CITY BASED ONGOAL LLC
Lamar Hunt representing the Hunt family announced today that the organization has completed the sale of the family's interest in the Kansas City Wizards and their related interest in Soccer United Marketing (SUM) to a six person group of Kansas City area residents led by Cerner Corporation executives Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig.
The purchasing group also includes Pat Curran, David French, Greg Maday and Robb Heineman. Biographical information on all six investors is attached.
The acquiring entity is OnGoal LLC. The purchase documents were signed yesterday and the new ownership group will take over operation of the Wizards on September 1. All current Wizards employees will continue with the organization.
The Hunts have been an Investor-Operator in Major League Soccer since the league began in 1996, and have operated the Wizards for 10 plus seasons. The organization has brought several significant championships to Kansas City, including
2000 MLS Supporter's Shield - best regular season record
2000 MLS Cup - 1-0 over the Chicago Fire at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
2004 U.S. Open Cup - 1-0 over the Chicago Fire at Arrowhead Stadium
Lamar Hunt, who has been involved in the professional sports scene in Kansas City for 44 years, concluded the announcement with these remarks:
We are especially pleased to have been able to consummate this transaction with the end result that the Wizards will remain in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. We had numerous inquiries from potential investors who wanted to move the team to other communities. Fortunately, the leadership of OnGoal have a passion for the Heart of America and I am convinced that they will achieve the much-needed Soccer-Specific-Stadium for the area and contribute to the long-range success of MLS.
We are delighted that Cliff and Neal and the other members of OnGoal have been added to the ownership group of MLS. They bring the total different ownership groups to nine for the 13 MLS teams. The addition of committed, financially able partners further strengthens the league. The Hunts have continuing financial involvement in MLS in Columbus and Dallas, and we welcome the addition of the new MLS partners in Kansas City.
We want to thank the many employees both on and off the field who have been dedicated disciples for the organization. General Manager Curt Johnson has labored long and hard and helped craft competitive teams on the field. Our former coach Bob Gansler won three significant championships for the organization and I would be remiss if I did not mention four employees who have been here from "Day One" - Evelyn Bray, Dan Faggard, Martie Harter and Chet North.
The final story of the "success" of Major League Soccer has yet to be written. In my opinion it is well on the way and certain to come. The recent completion by MLS of five new long-term TV contracts with ABC, ESPN, Univision, Fox Soccer Channel and HDNet are significant in that they will bring broad increased exposure and important revenue to the league.
Lastly, the development of Soccer-Specific-Stadiums and the accompanying revenue streams have also brightened the future of the league. Two more new stadiums in Denver and Toronto will open in 2007, and the New York Red Bulls will break ground next month following the lead of Real Salt Lake which broke ground several weeks ago. These additions mean that nine of the 13 MLS teams will be in Soccer-Specific-Stadiums by 2008 - 2009.
9.53pm Sky Sports News have just reported that Villarreal have offered Arsenal £2m to take Pascal Cygan away from Highbury (sic). Presumably Arsene Wenger left Cygan there when the rest of the club moved to the Emirates Stadium. We'll see how that one develops.
9.55pm Scrap what I just wrote. Arsenal have accepted Villarreal's £2m bid - well, would you think about it for any longer. That must mean Gallas is heading their way.
