I'm watching PSV vs Liverpool, there's advertising boards for the PS3, "How arrogant are Sony, straight after the announcement of a delay they are promoting it in Europe"!!!"!"£!

I reckon Liverpool will settle for the draw, after what happened at the weekend! Can't wait for Celtic ManUtd tomorrow, I'm working in Glasgow so it should be good to see all the Celtic fans crying after united turn them over!

Liverpool are having a difficult time against PSV, this could go either way.

I could see Kluivert coming on and scoring.

I don't think they can get out of the champions league sponsoring deal. They could however get rid of that horrible spiderfont.

Chelsea have been crap second half, but Ballack just scored a penalty after Lampard missed one on Saturday.

You always give the penalties to the Germans. Hell, Lehman should probably take Arsenal's.

It has nothing to do with arrogance. They can't just pull the ads because Sony recently delayed the PS3 in Europe.

Deserved win for Chelsea in the end. There were 20 minutes when they really weren't on top, but overall the better side.

I dont think there's any need to worry about Cole fitting in, but Shevchenko has had quite a bit of time now. It just doesn't seem to be working for him. Drogba's definitely the better striker so far this season.

Good to see Joe Cole back.

Cant wait for tomorrows matches

FORZA ROSSONERI (AC MILAN)!

Apparently Fabregas is signing an 8 year deal. That's insane. I can only assume he's getting a lot more money for committing so long, or maybe a buy out clause.

Seems like a great night in the Champions League. Well, unless you were watching Group C.

Not too disappointed with the 0-0 against Liverpool. I think we controlled much of the match, but really didn't have the attacking power to force a goal. Salcido and Alex were quite good, Kuijt and Bellamy didn't have much of an impact. Leftback with Reiziger was still somewhat of a problem, and Kromkamp had his share of problems too (I'm not too worried about that, he played quite well against Willem 2 and is still adjusting in the team).

No having Cocu was quite a loss, but Simons and especially Mendez (only his second game, after scoring twice in his debut game against Willem 2 last week) were great. I'm really happy about Mendez, he is exactly the type of midfielder we needed.

Up front both Kone and Farfan were struggling. Kone hit the bar once, but most of the time his actions lacked a good finish.

Overall, I see a lot of potential in the team, and Salcido, Kromkamp and Mendez will only get better. Together with Cocu, and more attacking power up front with Kluivert and Tardelli, I'm confident we'll be able to survive the group phase.

excellent news, I guess you are right with the buy out clause though.

A point on the road in Europe is never a bad thing, particularly when your best player is only on the pitch for the last twenty minutes. Liverpool will be just fine.

Cash will be fine as well...he'll feel like he has a lot to prove, and will probably do a little more then he should early on. Once he adjusts, he'll fit right in with those mother****ers.

It was interesting seeing Barca's jersey with Unicef's name on the front, something they're actually paying for. Pretty bold statement on their part. Not sure if this if this is just for Champions League games, or Liga games as well, but it is a five year deal.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/09/12/sports/soccer.php

Hope Henry is healthy for the Man U match...he's missed several of those clashes the last few years. From what I've read he's listed as being injured for just two or three days, so I guess he'll be fine for Sunday.

Ronaldinhio's goal was a thing of beauty...most of Barca's goals were actually, but his was just gorgeous. Good to see him back in form again after a difficult summer.

The daily Cole saga continues.

Cole shoots down young guns
Ashley Cole has criticised several of Arsenal's young guns for the laziness and isolationist attitudes they displayed last season.

Chelsea's new left back has revealed why he believes the team struggled so much last term, only scraping their way into the fourth UEFA Champions League spot on the last day of last term.

While Cole has acclaimed Jens Lehman and Thierry Henry for their continued determination and spirit he has hit out at the squad's younger members for showing the exact opposite.

"Watching games from the stands gave me a different perspective on matches and I saw too much rubbish being played too often, lazy players who didn't pull their weight and schoolboy errors," Cole told the Times in his serialised book Ashley Cole: My Defence.

"'The young guns' in my opinion, were not prepared to listen or learn. I remember feeling how fragmented we'd all become when Robin van Persie spoke up at training about Freddie Ljungberg. 'He doesn't talk to me. Why doesn't he talk to me?'"

"I couldn't tell you a thing about Kolo [Toure], [Emmanuel] Eboue, [Jose Antonio] Reyes, Cesc Fabregas or [Philippe] Senderos."

Arsenal had been dubbed 'The Invincibles' not more than a season before, as they faced Manchester United in an infamous affair in October 2004.

And Cole has finally spilled the beans on what exactly went on as The Gunners lost their 49-match unbeaten record in an ill-tempered affair which carried on down the tunnel.

"The lads at the front were eyeball to eyeball when one of the United security lashed out and smacked our travel manager on the nose. Then it kicked off, turning into a mass wrestling bout," Cole added.

"Then it happened. This slice of pizza came flying over my head and hit Fergie straight in the mush. The slap echoed down that tunnel and everything stopped - the fighting, the yelling, everything.

"Ferguson was steaming. I thought he was going to explode, but then he stormed off into the dressing room cursing and grunting, brushing the crumbs off his collar. That pizza took the sting out of the situation and both sides knew it had gone too far.

"The missile had come from the food tray in our dressing room. I've got a fair idea who launched it, and his aim with a pizza is just as good as his skills with a ball, but I won't name names."

These further revelations are sure to spice up proceedings for Chelsea's ties at United on November 26 and against Arsenal at home on December 10.

So who threw the pizza. At least reveal the important things when writing a book.

Yeah, wtf?

Allegedly he said that the person throwing was not French or English. So who is skilled and not French or English. Bergkamp, Persie, Fabregas? I need to know.

Pizza throwing suspect Fabregas is on the verge of signing a new eight year contract with the Gunners, which means Real Madrid will stop poaching for him until 2009.

Arsenal in sponsor clash

Arsenal Football Club has been forced to drop the name of its sponsor Emirates from its shirt ahead of tonight’s Champions League group match against Hamburg.

Arsenal’s shirts are usually emblazoned with the Fly Emirates logo following its new deal with the airline, which includes naming rights of the club’s fledgling Emirates Stadium.

German team Hamburg has the same shirt sponsor and football regulations prohibit a match where both sides’ kits promote the same brand.

As a result Arsenal will wear a specially-designed kit with the word “Dubai” replacing “Fly Emirates” on the front of the shirt.

It is understood that such a clash of sponsorship has never arisen before but Hamburg will be forced to make similar changes when the return fixture takes place at the Emirates Stadium on 21 November.

Well ain't that some shit...that would be a cool shirt to own though.

... congratulations to ashley cole.

how he can keep his composure on the pitch with someone looking like that at home is beyond me, as i think i've just lost all my ball control...

Inzaghi is sooooooooo sick. Who is Shevchenko now?

Pippo has now scored in every match since the qualification against red star.

Well United won, but they probably should have won it by 3. Rooney alone should definitely have scored 2, and Saha had a few excellent efforts he just didn't score from. They made it hard for themselves not putting away those chances (mainly Rooney, Saha's were hard).

United have a problem playing Carrick and Scholes in midfield. It's the same problem Carrick is always going to have and why he won't be getting in the England team anytime soon. He's not an attacking midfielder, but he's not a defensive midfielder either. He really gave his defence very little protection today, there was a big gap between midfield and defence, but if he's playing with Scholes then that's his job. You could say he'd be better with O'Shea than Scholes, as with Rooney the need for an attacking midfielder is lessened. Carrick would make a fantastic part of a 3 man central midfield, but unless he's with someone like Vieira who can attack and defend, the balance is always going to look wrong in a 2.

Fletcher...well, I know it was pretty much forced to play him with injuries and suspensions (they could have started the game with Solskjaer on the left though), but god he's a crap winger. I don't mind him in the middle, he works hard, but he just did nothing. Everytime the camera did a close up of him I was like "Oh yeah...Fletcher's playing".

Anyway, deserved win, should have been easier than it was in the end, weaknesses Arsenal can look to exploit on Sunday.

I haven't seen the game, for all I know Madrid were dominant, but I'm not in the least bit surprised by that result. It's sad really, that would have been a major upset a few years ago, now I expect it.

Great result for Arsenal.

Holy sweet hell, I'm watching a re-airing of the Celtic/ManU match, and Nakamura just potted one of the ****ing sweetest setpieces I've seen in a while. Hot damn that was gorgeous.

;_; @ Liverpool's tie, but I'm still confident we'll go far this year.

EDIT: Seems I'm not the first to mention the goal. :lol

Mama Smurf said:

fixed

Lyon had many chances to make it 3-0/4-0 or even 5-0 while Madrid couldn't even make a clear shot at Lyon's goal.

Giggs is out for 3 weeks while Park is out of 3 months...

That means Richardson should have decent chance to play in next few months. Shinobi should be happy about that :P

AND I definitely hope that it WON'T mean Fletcher will play as right midfield again :( He could be an average PL player (or slightly above average by his recent performance) when playing center role, but he IS an average D2 player on right side...... It will be my nightmare.

what the .... reminds me of the usual Man Utd fans attitude :

on the BBC site re : Man Utd vs Celtic

"It was an exciting encounter, equalling the pre-match billing between the English and Scottish champions. "

... English ... Champions?

seriously, i had man utd fans from home sending me emails when they got the difference with Chelsea down to 8 points saying that the fact they'd closed the gap _proved_ they were the _real_ champions.... lol.

:lol Watching the Arsenal and United games at the bar, I laughed out loud at the mass groan when Rooney was replaced by Richardson. :lol Of course we've got our own problems with Toure suffering a hip injury. It doesn't appear to be a long term problem, but it might be serious enough to keep him out of Sunday's match, which is the last thing we need. Overall though I thought the Gunners were decent...don't think they played any better or any differently then they have in their EPL matches to be honest, but after the first goal and especially Rosicky's gorgeous second you could see them playing with more confidence, being a bit more decisive with their passes. That's really the key to Arsenal's game...confidence and decisiveness.

United/Celtic was a fantastic clash...but as Smurf said the Reds should've scored 5 goals. Celtic goalie Artur Boruc was simply incredible...the save he made on that near own goal was the play of the night for me. This is the same cat who kept Germany from blowing Poland's doors off at the World Cup. If Arsenal could find a way to land this guy in the next year or two, I'd be a very happy man.

Yeah, from what I saw Lyon tore Real to pieces. It's funny, Lyon never seems to get the respect that other big European squads get, and I doubt they will in this case since Madrid is arguably still trying to fit their new pieces into the team. But it really wasn't as close at the scoreline suggested.

Thats one of the main reasons why we tried to buy hargreaves. Not onl would hargreaves have added more depth and quality to our squad, but he would have also given us the option to play the three central midfielder. Hargreaves would do the defensive duties, scholes would be the attacking midfielder and carrick would be able to do what he does best, which is to keep possession and to distribute the ball.

She deserves to be at the top, she is ****ing unbelieveable. Cashley has got loads of money, fame and he's got a gorgeous wife, all he needs is for people to like him and then his life would be almost perfect.

I am quite amazed at what happened with RM and Lyon...I seriously thought things were going to change with Capello...but well, it doesn't seem so.

Gotta love the Marca first page for the day before the match:

And well, barça as strong as ever :) What a pity Gudjohnsen didn't play the entire match...**** Messi and Giuly !!! Guddy for the win !

So, with Giggs and Park out of action, who the hell else can we possibly play on the left? I hope Ferguson will do the right thing and stick Fletcher or Ronaldo on the flanks because if Richardson is going to be getting regular first team football, I'm just gonna cry into my pillow every night.

Id like to see a midfield of Carrick ( holding) O'Shea ( defensive) Scholes ( attacking) with Ronaldo as a lone winger on the right. Like Phycho Snake mentioned earlier ( had we gotten Hargreaves, O'Shea can do the job till Giggs is back) .

Three central midfielders.... Plus if we had to do subs Fletcher and Smith can play in the center as well.

I don't see how that's gonna work. The centre midfield will just be one big mess. Actually I would prefer Smith over O'Shea for the DMF position. Both aren't really impressive in that role but Smith has a tendency to save our asses just right when we need him to.

I didn't know O'Shea can play on the left side of midfield and even if he can, I don't think it's a good idea. O'Shea tends to be really defensive with his distribution of the ball. You hardly ever see him passing it forward with a creative and attacking flair which is something we need on our flanks. Otherwise, we're just going to rely too much on Ronaldo on the right.
