Urgh, **** you american TV for not showing US soccer games on common channels.

At LEAST show international games :/

Maybe the US game will be bumped from ESPNU to ESPN1 or 2 again this week.

Also, Galavision is a free channel if you live in a major spanish market. Just put up the bunny ears.

Nowadays you can watch every televised EPL game in the US for a cable/satellite package that will run you around $70/month (which includes a ton of other channels as well), though few people have access to Setanta, which shows most of the good games. I could write a book on trying to follow international football in this country. Things have improved 1000% since I discovered the sport during the '94 World Cup. At that time, you were lucky to catch a stray Champion's League game on ESPN and had no idea when they would be on. Even getting scores wasn't an option pre-internet so the sport was basically impossible to follow.

Now, I literally have more football than I have time to watch via satellite. I can watch the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and some South American games too. And even those without pricy satellite/digital cable packages can now watch plenty of MLS, US National Team, and Champion's League games on the widely available ESPN networks. The only problem that will never be solved, but is greatly alleviated by Tivo, is the time difference.

I am sad Peru lost this way. The most I can hope for is that we learned something, and that with the full squad it will be a different story. Still, I hope Argentina wins this tournament.

Dont kid yourself. Mexico has got lucky against a Brazilian team that played together for the first time and Paraguay which started with a man down and a goal against after 3 minutes. I am not saying Mexico is not strong, but it is impossible to gather a clear analysis of its potential based on these 2 matches. Argentina will be the first true test of Mexico's power.

The first penalty was a clear goal. If the goalie would not have made the foul, the ball would have gone in easily.

Paraguay is not a weak team. They beat Colombia 5-0 and USA 3-1.

Playing together for the first time? Please. You could say the same about the Mexican team, when did Ochoa and Castillo ever play together for example? The Mexican team is very different from the Gold Cup team. Its not like Robinho and Gilberto have never played together.

Yep. I believe FIVE mexican players got their 1st cap in the game against Brazil. If anything, Mexico's team was even "newer" than Brazil's.

seems like Manyoo aren't quite as close to finishing the Tevez deal as they thought and as they would have liked.

Could drag on for quite a while yet according to the BBC and other reports.

Couldn't agree with you more. There's more soccer on TV than any other sport here. Just having FSC, Setanta, and Gol TV is more soccer than you can watch. There's also Telefutura, Univision, Galavision, ESPN2, RAI, plus any local channels for MLS matches. Even worse I pay $79 for Direct Kick so I have every MLS game not on national broadcasting recorded. That's why I laugh when people say soccer isn't very big here.

tribalfootball is awful. I don't believe anything they write because they're wrong more than they're right.

hadareud - did you get your 360 back yet?

lol, ok then, because I just read this:

Arsenal boss Wenger wants Real Madrid's Robinho
tribalfooball.com - July 08, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen on Real Madrid wing dazzler Robinho.
Robinho has enjoyed a superb Copa America and Marca says Wenger has told Real he would only consider selling Cesc Fabregas should they include the Brazil international winger in their offer.

For their part, Real are preparing a £25 million bid for both Cesc and Arsenal teammate Jose Antonio Reyes, but could include Robinho in their proposal should prospective coach Bernd Schuster give his approval.

not yet, but I am hoping to have it by the end of the week. At least that's what I was told.

They did promise me 2 months of xbox live and a free game though when I complained about the delay.

Yeah, typical tribalfootball bullshit. They figure if they print enough crap, sooner or later something will turn out to be true.

Cool. We'll have to get some gaming on once you're back online.

definitely need to play

I haven't played either fifa 07 or pro evo 6 because of the missing features in the 360 versions.

I figured I'll wait for this years

I actually don't own any football games at the moment. I was renting FIFA WC 06 when I messed up my thumb, and I've been off the console for the last year or so since then.

Real is wasting their time pursuing Fabregas.

I mean look where the guy was born for chrissakes. Not to mention where Henry signed. If he's going back to Spain, it ain't with Madrid.

Exactly how I feel. Although, I would like Robinho. Not in a swap deal for Cesc though. Why can't we give them Reyes and a couple million pounds for Robinho. That would solve alot of Arsenal's problems.

I honestly feel like if Madrid don't make a decent offer for Reyes we should keep him. If he wants to play, great. If he doesn't, f*** him. Make him sit until his contract is up.

May be a bit biased towards England as it's an English mag. (man, that took way too long :S)

Given that I was, at best, 6 for any of those teams, I can't comment on that. Well, aside from saying it's pretty stupid to compare teams from different eras anyway.

Zidane? Really? Great goal, but third best of all time? I pretty much see goals every season which wow me more.

Milan - Liverpool was admittedly extremely dramatic, but the actual standard of play wasn't brilliant.

yeah, lists.

be it football or art, they never make sense because of the different eras, styles opinions etc.

They do spark discussion though, which is a positive thing.

Predictably I don't agree with much. How can you trust anything that doesn't include anything Arsenal

The guys who are picking those goals are guys who grew up watching those games. They have their favorite players and moments engraved into their brains so there would be very little chance of any amazing goal pulled off by a current player changing their minds.

I can think of 2 off of my head: Van Persie's volley from about 20 yards out, and Henry's flcik to himself where he turned and volleyed. I also just rememberd Bergkamp's tap around the defender.

And look at that, all three are Arsenal goals. That's probably because I've been watching tons of Arsenal compilations on YouTube recently lol. But right there, off of the top of my head, three goals that could possibly have challenged each one in their list.

anyone care to comment on this? I don't want it to get lost up top. I feel like I have a pretty decent idea here. Hopefully Madrid would be willing to listen to something like this.

yeah, I'd love Robinho, but I highly doubt that Madrid would actually let him go. He's played too well towards the end of the season and he's playing too well at the moment for Brazil. If they get Robben and Reyes I suppose things could change though.

Reyes will definitely be sold, be it Real or some other Spanish club that is willing to pay 9 or 10 million.

What pisses me off is that all this comes after he's had a mediocre season and never played anywhere close to his ability. Before criticizing others he should improve his own game for ****s sake.

That's what bugs me the most. To be fair Gallas admitted he didn't have a strong season, but he oughta have one for us first before opening his trap every other week as if he's the one wearing the armband. What he did at Chelsea and France really doesn't mean shit here.

Frankly I'm surprised Henry got ditched before Billy...but I guess it's even harder to find a frontline center back then a goal poacher.

hadareud said:

:lol In all seriousness, I'm a little miffed that The Invincibles weren't included. I mean they did make it to the semi's of the FA Cup (beaten by Man U) and the quarters of the Champions League (beaten by Chelsea). Beyond that they played some of the most entertaining football in years, a style so good they were getting applause in away grounds. That's not even getting into the historical mark of being just the second team to go unbeaten in the English top flight. They were stupidly good that season.

To be honest, as far as lists go I'm quite happy with this one overall. Yeah it's UK-biased, yeah there are things I don't agree with, but the majority I tend to agree with.

But I do agree with you one one thing: Henry's flick-turn-and-volley goal against United should be there.

Liverpool improved their Babel bid to 13.5 million (can anyone hear that knocking sound in the background?). Let's see if he joins them, the traitor.

edit: I don't believe it though. Who would pay 5.5 million for a 30 year old that's constantly injured and that probably is beyond his best?

Freddie Ljungberg is going for £27 Million?

And no, Wiggles has no idea. Wiggles failed me.

that's disappointing. I'd ask my cat, but she's a few thousand kilometres away

edit: arseblogger isn't so happy with Gallas either
Free Willy, I say. But not for free. We could easily get a few million for the blabbermouthed cunt
:lol

Madrid has signed Pepe from Porto.

Not sure what to think. I haven't seen him play, but a brazilian centreback doesn't inspire much confidence. I'd like to see Woody back, but they'll probably be dumb enough to sell him now that he is actually healthy.

Also, this probably means the Chivu deal is no more. That money sucking bastard can go wherever the hell he wants.

should be enough I suppose. Maybe we can convince Inter that he's a striker. Would also put the price up.
------------------------

I just received the new Arsenal away shirt btw and they threw in a special edition football for good measure. This could be a good day maybe.

Sagna has passed his medical at Arsenal and will be presented today.

7.5 million is a lot for a defender, but I think he could strengthen us considerably at the back.

He can also play left and serve as a backup for Clichy and I think Eboue will be converted into a winger. Hoyte will be the backup fullback both left and right and should get quite a few games that way too.

Allegedly we are sill after Martins and a deal could be done this week. I say allegedly because I don't believe it at all.

edit:
that hair has to change though. This is clearly not good enough.
Sagna_462077.jpg

It looks like worms are hanging from his head.

I wouldnt be surprised if liverpool do pay 13.5 million pounds. They've already paid 10 million pounds too much for one player this summer and i think they'll do it again with babel.

the Martins rumour is apparently more than a rumour now and Arsenal are launching a bid this week.

will this be our signings done? I would think so
Lakitu said:

I don't think we were ever after Torres and I highly doubt we were prepared to pay anywhere close to that money for Babel.

I've worked out a new way for me to be excited for the new premiership season without Tevez.

It took all my GCSE math skillz but i think it works...

Shearer + Bellamy = Newcastle in champions league

Ashton = new Shearer

therefore

Ashton + Bellamy = West Ham in the champions league.

Confirmed.

I'll go over the whole thing later because I cant be bothered right now. I'm glad to see the west germany vs france game up there. That was one hell of a game. Germany did so well to come back in extra time. Luck was on their side that day because they should have been a man down. Schumacher should have been sent off. he had no intention of getting the ball, he just wanted to knock out the french player. France didnt even get a penalty and schumacher did even get a booking!

I think it would be a good buy. The only problem is that you'll lose him and adebayor during the african cup, ut if da silva and van persie can stay fit you should be ok.

yeah, I'm sure he's good and would to well for us. But we have quite a few strikers already (Eduardo, Van Persie, Adebayor, Bendtner, Walcott) so this may be a bit much. We did of course lose 3 strikers and only got in 2 so far, so who knows.

That said, maybe Wenger sees Eduardo as more of a winger, apparently he played on the wing quite a bit in Zagreb and maybe he really wants us to switch to a 4-3-3, then it would make sense to get another striker.

Van Persie ----------------------- Eduardo
------------------- Martins -----------------

wouldn't be too bad I suppose
