Lets work out the price:

Talented Youngster: 5m
Plays for Millwall: -1m
English: +10m
Liverpool buying: +8m

Grand Total: 22million

Spending 6 years playing in the reserves to sit on the bench while a continental european plays instead: priceless.

I'd like to see Woody back, but they'll probably be dumb enough to sell him now that he is actually healthy.

You...you already have sold him. Months ago.

That would be weird, putting an actual goalscorer on the wing, especially when Martins has so much pace and is left footed. I think it'd be more likely this:

Van Persie ----------------------- Martins
------------------- Eduardo ---------------

Or MORE likely neither of them.

I would agree but then there are these reports that he did play on the wing and of course Wenger said that he is "predominately a striker".

Who knows, I'd actually find it quite odd if we still brought Martins to the club. But who am I to question things when clearly

BTW, this is my suggestion for an IRC chat backup room, cause I'm sure this forum is gonna get grenaded.

Server: irc.*************

Room: footie

I suppose we could also use it during the season, so we can talk shit in real time!

good old gaf censoring.

I shall be there tonight, I'll pm everyone the address. Definitely will be useful during games, good stuff.

I hoped those Galaxy kits were fake. :(

Azul and amarillo don't blend well into one word and bleu et or sounds like a Quebecois university Canadian football team. Plus I already have a closet full of apparel from 2 other teams that use those colors.

I like them but I still like the gold jerseys with the green sash better. Sure the crest was tacky but that could've been changed instead of going with trying to be Real Madrid USA.

Green and yellow were awesome... I always saw it as a link to the old New York Cosmos. (Even more so with Beck and the over 30 international all stars here.) Now they're the University of California, Carson Galaxy. :(

Actually, despite all the talk about him being sold around january, apparently he wasn't and the decision would be made after the season ended.

Of course, he will still probably stay with Boro.

yeah, I'm sure he's good and would to well for us. But we have quite a few strikers already (Eduardo, Van Persie, Adebayor, Bendtner, Walcott) so this may be a bit much. We did of course lose 3 strikers and only got in 2 so far, so who knows.

That said, maybe Wenger sees Eduardo as more of a winger, apparently he played on the wing quite a bit in Zagreb and maybe he really wants us to switch to a 4-3-3, then it would make sense to get another striker.

Van Persie ----------------------- Eduardo
------------------- Martins -----------------

wouldn't be too bad I suppose
bendtner and walcott are still to inexperienced, so i think its importanbt to bring in another striker.

I cant see da silva being played on the wing. da silva's like van nistelrooy, he's a goalscorer. So if wenger does play a 4-3-3, da silva wont be put on the wing, he would be the central striker instead.

If wenger does choose to play a 4-3-3, then the three forward players that could be played are all the ones you mentioned plus hleb. the three midfield players would most likely be cesc, rosicky, diaby and silva. Hleb could be used as a central midfielder, but i think he;s a lot more effective on the wing.

Lots of rumors swirling this morning about MLS expansion. Sounds like there might be an announcement at Garber's All-Star talk. San Jose? Please?

No, it's definitely Oklahoma City :P

(i wish)

Of all the cities/regions that don't have teams, the most glaring to me are Phoenix, Florida, and Seattle. I suppose the northern part of the country could use a team, too (Minnesota, specifically), although the Fire and Crew kinda have that region covered.

He's getting close to Tarbio West-like levels of awfulness....

Odds are it's San Jose. If not, I'll be pissed along with you.
We can go burn down the MLS offices together. We can carpool.

forgot all about West. At least the colour was better though.

The Sagna deal seems to have slipped to tomorrow by the way, and apparently the fee is not quite as high (between 6 and 7 million)

Phoenix seems a bit difficult since they're going to need a retractable roof. Seattle should happen, but a stadium should be hard to come by. Miami isn't a very good sports market IMO, but Tampa doesn't seem like a bad idea again. I hope there's a Philly team announced for 2010. The more teams that are closer together the better.

I just started watching Life on Mars (and enjoying it). Love the opening to episode 5:

"I found this."
[hands scarf to Gene Hunt]
"United? Well... whoever did it... at least he had a decent motive."
[Hunt hands off scarf]
"He's a City fan."

DCI Hunt 4 life!

I wouldn't have thought so, but with all these player coming in you'd think that somebody has to go.

Since they should keep Baptista for good measure I suggest Robinho.

edit: Bristol City

No no no, not January, he was signed in April:

On 26 April 2007, Middlesbrough announced that Woodgate became their first summer signing for a transfer fee of £7 million (€10 million). He signed a four year contract keeping him at the club till 2011.

I've been burning the midnight oil catching up on coursework while watching awesome Life on Mars, Mama, so no I hadn't seen.
Plus stupid Bluesology and Bitter & Blue didn't have posts up yet.
Thanks for the heads up and bienvenidos a la Ciudad, Rolando!

i keep checking football sites every hour or two to see if the tevez deal has been finalised. I keep worrying that the premierleague will intefere or that there's some complication the contract that wont allow us to sign him and that the transfer will collapse at the last moment. Tevez would be a huge addition to our squad. nani and anderson were good buys, but they;re not yet proven and it could take some time before they start playing really well, but tevez has proved that he can play well in the EPl. A forward line with him and rooney could be devastating.

yeah I really wonder when the Tevez deal will be announced. I suppose in the end there won't be too many problems after all but it's gonna take a week or two before it's done.

edit: bloody Auxerre. When will they finally duly bend over like they are supposed to?

Gunners must stump up for Sagna

Tuesday, 10 July 16:50 BST

Auxerre sporting director Gerard Bourgoin has underlined that Arsenal are yet to table a suitable offer for Bakari Sagna, even if it remains '80 per cent' likely that the full-back will move to North London.

Sagna's agent exclusively revealed to setanta.com earlier on Tuesday that his client had undergone a medical at Arsenal and agreed personal terms on a five-year deal, even if the two clubs are yet to come to an agreement over a suitable fee.

Reports have claimed that a deal for the defender could be completed in a matter of hours, but Bourgoin insists that Sagna remains a Auxerre player at present.

"For the moment, Bakary has only his heart with Arsenal. He is very addicted to that club," Bourgoin told mercato365.

"Our player's position finally influenced us, whereas we didn't want to let him go at the beginning.

"The negotiations have accelerated. Sagna asked us the permission to meet the Londoners' directors. But from our part, we don't agree with Arsenal. For the moment, nothing is done.

"Be aware that our financial conditions haven't been accepted yet by Arsenal. The discussions are very advanced but Arsenal are a big club.

"Like for all big clubs, the files are complicated because of the juridical services added to the contract's clauses.

"Seconds ago, (coach) Jean Fernandez called me. He asked me how many chances we had to keep Bakari Sagna. I told him he only had a 20 per cent chance to count on him in his squad."

Damn it Mexico!

I was freaking out without my Footie thread.... I couldn't connect to the chat either ( damn mac) a few days away makes you apreciate things.

Yay OT is back!

Now onto to the Copa America.

:(

This loss was a real shame. A lot of players had solid games and Mexico I would say had the better 1st half and early 2nd, BUT one player (goalkeeper) cost the game.

We probably could have avoided those 2 ARG goals had Ochoa been between the posts. Everytime that idiot Sanchez comes out the box it's always a disaster. It's time for him to sit down and give Ochoa his time to shine. That combined with some bad luck tonight (I recall exactly 3 shots of Mexico's hitting the crossbar) and of course Argentina just having more talent, it wasn't in the cards.

Oh and Uruguay got robbed. They should have been able to re-kick that last penalty as Doni stepped off his line. In all fairness though, Uruguay did have a chance to put the game away on the 6th kick I believe.

Would have been nice to see URU or MEX get through to the final, as it is I'm sure the final will be boring as hell.

Cheer up, Miner. The Fire didn't get knocked out of Cup play by the freakin' RICHMOND KICKERS. :lol

:(

Micah Richards wants Sven to get Jermain Defoe according to the MEN... I thought he said he didn't want to leave the Spurs?

First one yeah, 100% mistake by the keeper.
Second one is a MARVEL by Messi. A ****ING MAZING GOAL. Sanchez wasn't too far from the goal, the kid is just that good.
For the ones who missed it, here it is.

Y AHORA LA VAN A COMER LOS BRAZUCAS.

ARG-BRA boring? Whaaa? Best national derby in the whole world. May be boring because Brazil has a very poor roster in this Cup.
