There are rumblings that they're trying to offload Quaranta onto Kansas City for some draft picks, as well. :lol
He was a damn United player! Lalas will probably get fleeced on that deal too. I guess the team is currently in violation of a bunch of roster regulations and they have to put out an everything 22 and under must go sale.

:lol @ this rumor if true. The Galaxy would become the new Hollywood Stars

http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_21287739.shtml

Tom Cruise is reportedly launching a $80 million takeover bid of friend David Beckham's new soccer club.

The Hollywood actor is a huge soccer fan and wants to give his financial backing to the Los Angeles Galaxy.

A source said: "To have Tom's backing would be amazing - there's no way Galaxy bosses would turn down that opportunity."

:lol That's a hilarious rumor. It'd give me another reason to hate the Galaxy!

I guess that answers part of Mama's question about US tabloids, too.

I'm annoyed at my sister, she's set her wedding date for a Saturday in September 2008. Who knows what fixtures might be on that day, she really has no consideration for others. I'm now gonna refuse to usher, they should just get a sign like I said in the first place.
some people. that's just ridiculous, at least bring a portable tv.
Or you could watch the games on a Laptop.

I do like weddings though, there's nothing quite like starting getting shitfaced in the morning and drinking until the next day. There's usually good women there too. Not that I would be able to do anything in the state I'm in.

We gonna destroy the MLS like the Cosmos destroyed the NASL! At least I'll have a bitchin' movie to watch about it when I'm 35.

It'd be a pretty savvy move from a business perspective short-term, though. Nothing sells better than stars in Tinseltown. The only drawback is that they'll probably forgo the pseudo-pot leaf logo'd Herbalife in favor of something like Dianetics as the jersey sponsor. :lol

As a supporter of another AEG-owned team, I'd take Cruise in a heartbeat.
QFT. I hate, hate, hate AEG as a team owner.

That movie was awesome. Saw it in the theater with a few friends.

You'd have to change to the LA Thetans, too. :P

I know, selfish.

I haven't been to one since I was young, though I'm approaching the age now when friends are likely to start getting married, so I expect there'll be a lot soon.

I don't think I can get shitfaced until after the reception meal at least, as it's my sister's wedding and I'm part of it :(

As for the women, 50% of them will be relatives (so a grey area...right?), 40% I will have just met anyway as they're my sister's friends or the groom's friends, who I've also met a lot of for some reason, and I would ahve made a move on them already if I wanted to, so I'm just gonna have to hope that last 10% are hot. I saw Wedding Crashers, I know what I've gotta do.

Squirrel Killer: They're not bad... except for the stripe going into the sock. WTF is that shit?

After the uni discussion a couple pages ago, I just want to go on record as saying that I wouldn't mind at all if this became the fulltime US uni (with the blue w/ two horizontal stripes being the alt).
I prefer the diagonal, but I'd be ok with this one, as well. What I most want is some continuity where we don't end up with a new, completely different uniform every 1-2 years. Just find something that works, and tweak it a little, but keep using one style.

Speaking of random uniforms, the US women will wear gold at the Women's WC.

I guess we won't see the Copa roster until after the match tonight.
LA Times said:
Today is the deadline for teams to formally submit their Copa America rosters, but Bradley said the U.S. would not do so until after tonight's semifinals, in case an injury causes a late switch.

Cornballer said:
It'll certainly be interesting. I really don't know what to expect.

Argentina has named its provisional roster for the Copa. It's 28 and will be cut down to 23. Take a peek.

I note a bunch of Boca players, looks like they were watching the Libertadores game.

Messi, Riquelme and Crespo together again makes for fun times.

Also, I asked before but no one answered: How much cash does the Champions League winner get?

And does anyone know what channel will be airing the Copa America games in the US?

Im guessing Univision will have the mexico games, but all the others?

Barcelona have allegedly sealed a deal with Toure.

Yaya Toure that is. He's gonna join this weekend according to spanish press. And by Spanish press I mean that everything is completely made up.

edit:

A Cole says:

"On the form Wayne showed he is in front of me," said Cole. "I think it will be harder for me to get back into the team. I was rubbish last season and played nowhere near the level I can.

"I will have to fight for my place next season."

You bastard! I spit out some of my drink until I read the part that it was Yaya.

Found this on the Arsenal-Mania.com forums.

Not sure how true it is, but here's to hoping:

I know that Myles Palmer is often given a rough deal by some, but I heard him on the radio earlier today on a radio station called Newstalk.

He said that Arsenal are wrapping up three deals at the mo and will not reveal any one of them until they are all finalised. The main hold up being the under 21s championship.

These deals are full back Bakary Sagna (for £6.75million), Ryan Babel from (for £6million) and David Trezeguet (for £8million)

Apparently Silkman was involved in the Trez deal; on behalf of an agency, this could explain the "very big deal" Tuesday.

Myles predicts that these will all be announced by Wednesday next week. It is also thought that these will be enough to keep Henry...

I hear Raniari wants to keep Trezeguet and is making it a priority...but I don't think it was Deschamps he was upset with, it was the higher ups at the club, so it probably won't make any difference. Unless Ranieri can persuade them to offer him a big enough contract anyway.

well, that's quite something if correct.

I will say that this person is regarded as very trustworthy, so that definitely makes it possible.

I'm getting a bit excited now

Ahhhh, Myles. Before Henry made the move to Arsenal, he said: "Thierry Henry may turn out to be a £10 million winger, but he is a £500000 centre forward. Henry is not a David Trezeguet and never will be."

I'm just trying to bring some happiness to the Arsenal fans. Even if it is short-lived and completely false lol. If this were to happen (getting those 3 players), I'd be psyched. If not, back to where I started.

In the US it's GolTV and Univision/Telefutura.

Also, Copa America rosters are due today. Should be interesting to see who the US is bringing. We have to play Argentina in our first game, and it's rumored that Messi and Tevez are going to play. Gulp!
The final roster of 22 is: Abbondanzieri, Carrizo, Orión. Zanetti, Ayala, Heinze, G. Milito, D. Díaz, Ibarra, Burdisso. L.González, Riquelme, Mascherano, Cambiasso, Gago, Verón, Aimar.Messi, Crespo, D.Milito, Tevez, Palacio.

And yeah, Verón/Riquelme/Messi/Tevez are almost sure starters.
Mama Smurf said:
Veron? When did he make it back into the Argentina squad?
This year, with Basile.
jamesinclair said:

Actually, Basile was Boca's coach before he returned to the national, so he knows most of them, he formed the base team. That's why.

After all this, i still don't understand how is Argentina going to play with both Riquelme and Verón on the field... one is slow and "builds" the game on his feet (and played a poor 2006 WC), the other has an amazing long-pass accuracy for speedy attackers (and played an AWFUL 2002 WC). They never played together on la selección, i think.

Naw, we appreciate it. I just take everything that Myles Palmer says with a grain of salt, and I don't like getting all excited about possible deals that are probably untrue. That being said, I'd be stoked to get those three at those prices.

That's still a matter of discusion here, but the statistics actually tell a lot: he made 2 shots in the entire cup. Two, the guy who made 2 goals yesterday. He had one assist for a Saviola goal on the first match against Ivory Coast, never passed the ball to Crespo, and that's it. He may not had a horrible tournament, but sure did perform far lower than what can be expected of him, specially if he has the 10 on the back of his shirt and the ball always goes thru his feet.

for some reason I remembered him differently

having read up on a few things we should indeed be taking it with a grain of salt

Well that's what the original poster said. Who knows though, we haven't heard anything about those 3 players. Trezeguet I'd say is 100% leaving Juve, no one knows where though. I don't think we will go this transfer period without one major signing.

Cornballer said:
I just want a guarantee that when Gooch scythes down an Argentinian in the box, Riquelme will take the penalty against the US. ;)
If he plays, that's almost 100% guaranteed. Verón never took penalties, the only other i can think of is Tevez.

Doesn't he miss.....well....a lot?!? Curious why they won't get someone else to do it. He missed last night, against Arsenal for Villarreal, and in the World Cup. I'm getting the impression that he's not very good at taking them, which is why I thought they'd find another taker.

You're kinda confused, Riquelme got subbed 25 minutes into the second half against Germany, he did not participate in the penalties shootout. And the one who missed yesterday was Palermo, not him. He did miss that one penalty against Arsenal on Villareal, but that's it, he's quite effective. I think he had something like 12 of 13 shooting them on La Liga in 2006.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I must have confused him with someone else.

Thak confirms he's been in contact with Sven about the Man C gig and that there's an offer on the table. (There'd been lot's of conflicting stories on this this week.)

Excellent... the pieces are starting to fall into place for a season away from the dangers of the relegation zone and in the safety of the mediocre middle of the Premiership.

Thaksin was also charged with corruption today.

The US lineup for the Canada tilt just got posted.

--------------------Keller--------------------
Hedjuk--Onyewu---Bocanegra--Bornstein
Dempsey--Bradley----Mastroeni--Beasley
------------Donovan------Johnson----------

Or in nicknames....

---------------------------KK-----------------------------
-Heydude--Gooch--CharlieBlackmouth--El Conejo--
--Deuce---CoachesSon---InstantYellow--RunDMB---
-------PrimaDonovan----GrownAssMan---------------

I'm glad we're up 2-0, but that was some terrible defending by the US. Very concerning. Great pass by Dempsey on the Beasley run and nice finish by Hejduk - didn't see that coming. :D

Why the **** is Johnson always offside when he's much faster than the players defending him and in plenty of space. ****ing stupid.
