lachesis said:So, big question is, who'll be replacing Henry? Since Wenger likes young boys, my bet's on Babel! :lol
Seriously, it finally hit me that Arsenal is not the gunners that I used to no anymore - like imagining Real Maddrid w/o Raul, Juventus w/o Del Piero, and Liverpool w/o Gerrard.

So Prima Donovan will be here in time for the Crew match?Cornballer said:US Roster for the Copa America. Missing most of our best players who are headed back to MLS/Europe. Falch should note that Nguyen is in there. After the lineup that Argentina posted, this squad is going to have a tough time picking up a point from that match.
Heh. Which two? Keller and Demerit?Mama Smurf said:I know a full two of those US players *proud*

I just couldn't tell if you'd slipped up, perhaps because English isn't your first language (I think), or if you meant it.
Looks like he got his wish and will be staying home. Man, there's going to be some serious roster shuffling in LA with all of the new players. Yallop has to be under some pressure to start producing results very soon.Karakand said:So Prima Donovan will be here in time for the Crew match?
Winning streak, baby!
Naw, he played a bit in the WC, but certainly wasn't a star. Then again, pretty much our whole team was crap last WC.Mama Smurf said:Those two and I think I know Eddie Johnson. I don't know how, did he have a good World Cup? I might be mixing him up with another Johnson, if there's been one previously.
He's already got 2.4% of the vote. Maybe his mom is voting a lot?¿Quién será la estrella de la Copa América?

I know Pavon won't be playing this weekend. Sounds like Special K won't see much action, either.Cornballer said:Looks like he got his wish and will be staying home. Good point. Deuce played pretty well. I'm pretty much in denial about the entire US WC06 experience at this point, so I forget a lot of things. The copious amounts of German beer may have had something to do with that....AstroLad said:Except Dempsey. He made me a fan, rapping aside.
What am I talking about? Rapping included!

I'll keep you posted.Falch said:Interesting. No Beasley, as expected. Let me know how Nguyen does.
Cornballer said:I'll keep you posted.I'm not sure how much playing time he'll get since it's a lot of young/uncapped players. Most of the midfielders on the roster play centrally, so he may get some time on the wing.
The Sun said:Thierry: Why I'm going
By CHARLIE WYETT

THIERRY HENRY last night opened his heart on why he is quitting Arsenal for Barcelona.
In an exclusive letter to SunSport readers, he said: Its now or never for me sadly it has to be Now.
Henry, 29, will have a medical at the Nou Camp on Monday.
Barca claim he will sign for £16million in a four-year deal worth £128,000 a week.
In his letter, Henry added: Arsene Wenger has said that at this moment he will not commit to the club past the expiration of his current deal, which finishes at the end of this coming season.
I respect his decision and honesty but I will be 31 at the end of next season and I cannot take the chance to be there without Arsene Wenger and David Dein.
Henry also cites Deins departure as vice-chairman as a key reason for his move.
He added: David Dein is no longer there and there is no denying the fact this has de-stabilised the team and the manager.
Henry held talks with Wenger on Wednesday.
They came after Wenger made it clear he was not ready to extend his deal as manager.
It meant the time had come for skipper Henry to end his eight-year love affair with the Gunners.
Wenger met with Barcas financial director Ferran Soriano in France last week.
Henry has parted company with agent Jerome Anderson and will arrange personal terms himself.
Barca were last night celebrating victory after a two-year chase for Henry, who will form a devastating strike force with Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and Samuel Etoo.
The news comes as a devastating blow to Arsenal fans and places a huge question mark over Wengers future.
The Catalan giants will now make Wenger their No 1 target to replace boss Frank Rijkaard.
Barca supremo Joan Laporta said: Henry is one of the greatest players in the world and a player who could improve our side. He has interested us for a long time.
Henry hit 226 goals in 364 games at Arsenal, winning two titles and four FA Cups.
The striker, who arrived from Juventus for £10.5m in 1999, has flirted with Barcelona since they first targeted him in 2005.
Mama Smurf said:Should have just taken Kroenke's money, how bad could it be?
h0pper said:wtf, I had a shitty day at work and come home to this. Honestly, Henry can go f*** himself. He left Arsenal because Dein left. Cry me a fu**ing river. If that's how you act when the team needs you most, maybe you weren't as great a leader as we thought.

He'll be 31 by the start of the 2008/ 09 season. The wording isnt perfect because he wont be 31 straight after the end of next season. He will turn 31 a couple of months later.Steroyd said:Their math sucks how could he be 29 now and then 31 at the end of next season unless his birthday is pushed backwards next year.
hold on. We don't know what happened exactly - but if the rumours are true, David Dein was basically trying to sell the club behind everybody's back.Shinobi said:It also occurs to me that Dien's incredibly hasty dimissal came in part due to a sickening level of arrogance and assumptiveness from the Arsenal board, acting as if every American who wants to invest in an EPL team only does so for the money and no other reason. It kinda ties in with the way the MLS is perceived by the English press to be nothing more then a ****ing varsity league, when nothing could be further from the truth. Looks like that move has bitten us in the ass...just hope it doesn't take any more chunks out.
If that rumour is true, then the board really had no choice but to let dein go, but both the board and dein are to blame. If dein did try to sell the club behind everyone's back, he must have done it because the board oppose the move. Now the board should have had a more open mind about the matter. had they done so, then Dein might still be there. Even if Dein didnt try to sell the club behind everyone's back, it still shows that the board didnt think this through properly. I wouldnt call it arrogance, its more like ignorance.hadareud said:hold on. No matter the intentions of Kroenke, this is something that would lead to the instant dismissal of anyone. The board had to act and they did.
