Gallas might not be an ideal captain, but Arsenal don't have an ideal captain. He's just the best they've got. Maybe Fabregas can be an ideal one in a few years, he's got some fire in him, unlike Toure and Gilberto.

Funny you say that, when Madrid has always had very strong team identities where many, many players have made their career. Of course, people rather look at what Florentino did with the team and hate it, but eventhough Calderon is a moron when he opens his mouth, he, along with everyone in the club, is trying to build a very young core that can be established as a strong, competitive team for many years to come.

Yes, sacking Capello was the dumbest mistake ever, but just take a look at the young core:

Casillas
Ramos
Diarra
Robinho
Marcelo
Gago
Higuain
Pepe
Torres
Saviola
Drenthe
Robben(most probably)

25/26 years old max.

The team still is in a rebuilding proccess, because eventhough they're the champs, the team still had glaring limitations. As for the youth system, that was pretty much forgotten during the Florentino era and was in shambles for a while. Now, it's gaining strength with the young spanish internationals like Bueno and Granero, coupled with a few prospects that have been signed from other countries. So, slowly, but surely, it's looking up.
When capello was at real, I believed that it was the beginning of a successful era, but your board are so fucking stupid and sacked him. Its a senseless decision. Schuster might turn out to be a good manager, but even if he does turn out to be good, the real board might sack him, even if he won the league. Its seems they're only satisfied if a manager won the CL in their first season. The board expects too much and thats why this rebuilding process is taking longer than it should. It takes a manager time to build a new team and the problem at real is that the manager isnt given the right amoutn of time.

I'm surprised spurs are the top spenders. With all that money spent, you would expect them to put up a decent fight for a CL spot. If they cant get a CL spot this season, then its got to happen soon. Its difficult to break into the top four, but tottenham have managed to outspend them all. It would be a failure if they couldnt get a CL spot in the next few years. With that much money spent, there should be progress.

spurs are always amongst the top spenders. They have spent around 4 times as much money as a certain other north London club in the last 10 years.

They did qualify for the UEFA cup two or three times in those 10 years though. So that's quite successful by their standards.

Spurs are only number one because they spent 16mill on Darren Bent...:lol If they'd managed to get him for a sensible price i.e. 8-10, Man U would be top.

Its a big price tag, its still a good buy. I reckon he'll do better than torres.

Its a horrible decision. Gallas does far too much moaning. He complains about everyone not performing as well as they should be whilst he's playing like shit himself. Recently he's come out and started saying good things about the club, but it seems to be that he's done that to suck up to wenger and have a better chance of getting captaincy.

Gilberto or toure should have been the ones to get it. Gilberto did a decent job last year when henry wasnt injured. Toure would have been just as good too. He loves the club and he's commited to playing. The great thing about toure is that you barely ever hear him complain to the press or say anything negative.

It's not a horrible decision. Gilberto and Toure are great players, as well as great team players. They seem to be well liked amongst the entire team but you need someone who is going to act as a father figure at times as well.

I was kinda bored...lol

He's got loadws of talent, but he's an arrogant porick who doesnt take things seriously. There was a brief spell at roma when he started to behvae himself, but for most of career he's not commitied to looking after his body and staying out of trouble. If city can buy him and sven sorts him out, it'll turn out to be an amazing buy, but its going to be difficult to do that.
Yeah, I remember a lot of that. If his shit isn't together this will be Joey Barton redux. :(

Osorio said:
Fuck that. I'm tired of my team losing our young talent. Tim Howard left for Manchester United, Eddie Gaven went to Columbus, Michael Bradley went to Heerenveen, and now Jozy is thinking about leaving?
You could always go the Galaxy route (nobody under 30 on the roster). You wouldn't have to worry about being raided by European privateers anymore then. Sure the trade off is being a bottom table team but at least you can hold on to your players! :lol

Osorio said:
Btw does anyone else cringe when Sky Sports News tries to talk MLS? I don't know who writes that stuff up but they've got all their shit wrong. The Galaxy are not playing Washington DC today, and Salt Lake is not bottom of the Eastern Conference. They should just hire me, and I'll do all the MLS news for them.
I really need to watch more of this and keep running notes. Next time somebody tries to say Yanquis are ignorant motherfuckers I can say, "YOU THINK SALT LAKE CITY IS IN THE EAST."

Feilhaber is on his way to Derby.
Is it too soon to start worrying about them getting relegated?
Sweet, I'll actually follow him now. :D

Fabregas for captain? Maybe in a few years. Someone that young doesn't really have a place commanding players 6-7 years older than him. I don't know how I'd feel about some 16 year old yelling at me on the pitch telling me what to do. In a few years, Fabregas will be captain. That is if Schuster's prophecy doesn't come true. F***ing pr**k.

The sad thing is they didn't sack him because of his accomplishments, something he obviously did well. Capello was fired because the board thought his football wasn't suited for Real Madrid and the fans didn't like it. When I'm pretty sure, that despite the difficulties, most people were very happy with the offensive minded, aggressive team of the 2nd half of the season.

It was a pathetic decision for sure.

Ermmm serious question now..... Am I right in my assumption that Arsenal vs Fulham is not being shown on TV live in the UK? Are Setanta and Sky Sports really that useless? :(

yeah, it's not on.

Luckily I'm going there but otherwise it would have to be an internets stream. You can watch all the games everywhere else but here. Strange stuff.

Urgh, it's a Sunday game as well... In the past that has pretty much guarenteed an Arsenal game being on TV..... Now we have to stations airing the games and we get nothing...... Madness.

....why is it on Sunday if it's not on TV? It's not like there was a match on Thursday to recover from. I don't understand.

Latest rumour is that the Robben Chelsea - Real transfer is off, due to already singing a player who can occupy the left wing (Drenthe). And that they're going all-out to sign Sneijder of Ajax. Presumably, there's a €24 million bid on the table.

Sneijder who could have gone to Valencia like 2 years ago, but opted to stay SMART!

And about Babel, at least that boy has something like 2/3 seasons playing in the big league, Drenthe has just got 29 games in the Eredivisie!

I just went through the pictures I took and I have to say I did an appalling job. Horrible.

Of course this won't stop me spamming this thread with some of them and boring everyone to tears.

DSC00026.jpg

Vienna, before going to Salzburg. It was 40 degrees and the heat was unbearable during the night. The view from my mates balcony is nice though
DSC00031.jpg

Salzburg. I'm having a pint with a few mates, who unfortunately are Salzburg fans (auf gehts Soizburg, hoamgeh und stodln). There's no pictures of myself of course, since I took all of them.
DSC00032.jpg

in front of the stadium. We were sitting at the upper tier, so we had to get up those dodgy stairs. After having queued half an hour for a beer we had to queue half an hour to get up there. The organisation was a shambles.
DSC00034.jpg

in the stadium. they had some sort of a band I think. Or maybe not, I can't remember and my picture is too bad to tell.
DSC00036.jpg

the stadium is nice, the crowd was really quiet though.
DSC00047.jpg

the game starts, I am exhausted and decide it's time to stop taking pictures.

I promise I will do a better job on Sunday.

When you were talking trash on your friends' corporate billboard club did you buy them all a round of Red Bull and Vodka?

of course not.

It was quite embarrassing though since I was very much the bigmouth before the game. Losing against them was the last thing I needed. Not that it stopped me taking the piss out of them after the game for various other reasons.

That hurts. That's my sister team right there.

Apparently Football Focus is asking who's the Premiership's deadliest finisher.

I don't normally care about things like this, it's all subjective and no one's going to come up with a suggestion I haven't already thought of, but for once, I think Blackburn win. I genuinally believe Benni McCarthy is the Premiership's deadliest finisher.

I'm not saying he's the best striker in the Premiership, that's a different issue, but when it purely comes down to putting the ball in the back of the net, he has few rivals. Drogba scored more last year, but he still hoofs it into the crowd half the time, he just has more chances because he's playing for a better side. I think Van Persie will score a lot, but again he'll have lots of chances and, while he'll score wonder strikes, he'll miss easier ones too.

The only guy I can think of to rival him is Owen, and he's been injured so long that I don't even know if he's still the player he was, getting a goal every 2 games.

yeah, I think you're right. Drogba is not the deadliest finisher, actually he isn't that deadly a finisher at all.
There's no players in the Premiership anymore at all though that can score 30 goals a season, I guess it will be a few years before we see someone like that again.

So McCarthy is it. Closely followed by Hleb.

If only Ole's knee had worked the past few years. He just knows where to put the ball 9 times out of 10. I love him.

Saha will get you near 30 if he can stay fit for a season but he's useless at one on ones. Yakubu is pretty damn good as well if a little lazy.

Owen is brilliant 1v1 one of the best tbh.

Getting egg on your face when your team loses is the best part of talking trash! Rubbing in victories is easy and gets rather dull. Trying to do damage control and / or pretending you don't really care your team failed you is unpredictable and exciting.

You know if you and I were ever in a bar I'd order you one of those surreptitiously. :lol

I'd be too happy I got free Red Bull and vodka to think about the possibility of us being in the same bar together.

Believe me, if we were in the same bar you wouldn't be able to ignore me. That third chorus of "Livin' on a Prayer" I lead is all but impossible to miss unless you're Hellen Keller's kid.

In that case EVERYONE in this thread needs to go to South Africa 2010. It's the only way us football thread goers can be in the same bar at the same time.

DC-LA game just came on ESPN2 and I like it when DC games are on national television. It makes picking sides so easy. Come on Galaxy!

:lol I want to go but I know I'll get arrested most likely and I'm not really sure I want to end up in a South African jail. I really should have gone for Germany. :(

P.S. Fuck DC!

Look like Scott Carson will be coming to Villa for a season long loan then. Not too bad considering we're in desperate need!

Damn what a terrible tackle....looks like he snapped his ankle...:(

[edit] holy shit he's still int he game and apparantly unhurt...wow

Beckham coming in

I want to like you Buddle. I really do. But those 2 scoring opportunities tonight...

:lol @ Galaxy headlining next Thursday.

plz beat DC in SuperLiga.

Semi-related: When did these get added to the Galaxy's wiki?

Nickname: LA Beckhams, The Galaxy, Galaxians, Spice Boys, Jewel Of MLS
Whoever did that took out nicknames people actually use (i.e. G's, Gals) and replaced it with veiled trolling. It's like an NPD thread!
