I thought Portsmouth actually did very well up until then. Given the players out there and Spurs' goalscoring record at home, keeping it 0-0 and barely giving away chances for so long was impressive. Made very little attempt to win the game, but made a very strong attempt not to lose it.

Bent, 1-0. I'm pleased for him, I think he's been unfairly treated this season, it's not his fault a team was willing to spend so much for him.
I like the guy, I even thought he would be better than torres! I dont usually take the piss out of him because I do think he's a good striker, but I think spurs are fucking supid for spending that much money on a third choice striker when their defence was shit and needed sorting out

Thanks for beating Portsmouth, Spurs. Now Villa have to beat Sunderland, hopefully avoiding controversy that Mr Keane gets angry at along the way.

fucking spurs

Bent's first decent game for spurs. He scored before of course, but today is the first time he actually looks like he can play football.

Looks worth about 1.6 million now

At the start of the season I thought spurs made a mistake not buying any central midfielders, but now it looks like it doesnt matter. Huddlestone and O'Hara exceeded people's expectations. They're still both young, but they've got potential. If they both play regulalrly together, they could form a very good partnership for spurs and for england.

Sven = Joke coach confirmed

Hart

Corluka Dunne Ned Garrido

Vassell Ireland Gelson Johnson Petrov

Benjani

(That gif will be overused till death)

WHY DO YOU PLAY BOTH VASSELL AND IRELAND
I can see Vassell being good against Bolton's physical style, but who cares when he can't pass the ball?! We had the yearly corner kick goal last game so all his corner kick creation efforts will just be useless.
Not that I dislike Vassell today as much as for three weeks ago, but Castillo was sooo good last game. Elano too.
Ireland being in the starting eleven is just unlogical.

If he was at a club where he would be playing regualrly, his goal tally would be on double figures.

well, it's like I said before the season started. Some players do really well at small clubs but don't at bigger clubs.

Bent is one of them, he'd do really well at a club like Reading or something - but I don't think he has what it takes at top level or international level.

I dunno whether to watch Blackburn - Wigan or not. There's not too much to play for there, I think both sides will end up safely mid-table, Blackburn at the upper end, Wigan at the lower.

Newcastle - Fulham is on at the same time though, and that game actually means something. Should be full of passion and whatever the result is, even if it's a draw, will really tell a story in the relegation battle.

I dunno. Team I support or match I anticipate to be good.

The only reason he hasnt done well at spurs is because he's not going to get ahead of berbatov or keane. That doesnt mean he's bad, just that he's not as good as those two. Keane and berbatov have formed such a good partnership that its difficult to leave one of them out. Spurs are the second highest goalscoring team in the league and 2/3 or their goals come from berbatov and keane.

If bent went to a place like Villa, City or everton, I'm sure he could succeed there.

I'm with psycho on this one, start him whenever he's available and I think Bent would get around 15 league goals a season at any club, outside of the truly dreadful (Derby).

well, I basically said the same thing - just that he wouldn't be able to do it at a top club.

First of all he wouldn't get the starts (there's a reason for that) and secondly I don't think he has what it takes to succeed at that level.

But I agree that he'd do well at a bottom half club.

Newcastle team

13 Harper
21 Beye
27 Taylor
25 Faye
03 Jose Enrique
20 Geremi
22 Butt
07 Barton
10 Owen
36 Viduka
09 Martins

You might get lucky today against Bolton and this'll be one of those rare games where you manage to score.

I only feel lucky when your players log into MSN and show me their dingdongs.

Also, we've scored as many goals as you on home pitch.

Come on Newcastle, I really want them to survive. I like Kevin Keegan, I don't think they have the best squad, but it's 14-16th material and not beyond that. The premier league would feel different without them.

Yeah, we wont have anyone to laugh at.

That's not really the same thing, I said I think he'd do well at any club from top to almost bottom.

If he can score 15 goals for Charlton, he can score 15 goals for Liverpool. And that would make him Torres's partner given the goalscoring...talents...of Liverpool's other forwards.

:lol

I need a youtube vid of that Kahn save...

The ball took a deflection, Kahn was already on his way into the wrong corner and somehow kicked the ball away with his heel while flying through the air.

see, that's where I disagree. Scoring 15 for Charlton doesn't mean that he'll score 15 for Liverpool.

It's the same league, but it's a different level.

Kuyt would probably score 15 at Reading.

Thats not necessarily true. Bellamy scored more goals at Blackburn than he did at Liverpool in roughly the same amount of games.

In most cases though, a player will do better at a bigger club. I still think that Bent would be as good as he was at charlton with an EPL club if he was playing regulalrly.

If (when?) they go down, I think Dempsey can find a place in another Premiership side. The rest of them will stay with Fulham, I'd guess.

What's with your love affair with Keegan?

fucking hell, my dad thought it would be a good idea to swap TV's, so now I have to wait for another 10 minutes until I can watch the game.

I don't know, I always liked him. I think he's an honest guy and a real character.

McBride would find another team in the Premiership too, don't you think?

Bullard will definately leave and I think McBride might too. There are a couple of others too.

That's not because Bellamy can't play for a big club. Blackburn was the only season he ever scored like that, his Liverpool record was no different than his Newcastle one really. He just had a good season, secured a move to a top club, then went back to his usual form.

Bent's a quality player, he has everything he needs. He's fast, he's a great header of the ball, he scores with his right and left foot, he's a great finisher, he's a proven Premiership goalscorer. This isn't a one off Bellamy or a never-proven-himself in the Premiership Kuyt. At a top club, playing regularly, he'll get better service and spend more time in attack than at Charlton, and will score at least as many, no doubt.

McBride is already 35 - not sure if another side wants to take a chance at that age. He might prefer to start at Fulham then come off the bench on a bigger side.

I fully agree bent is a great player. He reminds me of saha, without all the injuries.

I was just saying that there are players that wont succeed at big clubs, but I didnt really see the bellamy situation the way you see it.

Dammit, couldn't Newcastle stream have messed up before Santa Cruz's goal, I've switched over too late.

It's 13 in the league, will have to check for other comps...though we went out of all of them pretty early.

Oh good, Wigan score a penalty, Samba sent off.

I'm not sure Samba actually did grab hold of Heskey, but I can't blame the ref for sending him off. He certainly put his hands out and from the ref's angle it must have looked like he pulled him down, but I don't think he actually grabbed him.

Shouldn't have put his arms out in the first place and given the ref a question, of course.
