I'm interested to see how things go tonight, whether it'll be just like a Premiership match or not.

Obviously there's an extra layer of depth added with it being two legs and away goals, maybe even extra-time and penalties. That changes things a bit, but will Benitez's European pedigree show through against a Premiership side?

The players may feel differently about the European games as well. There's no reason they should, they're facing the same team, but these things do get into players' heads.

I can't believe they let Gerrard run so easily with that. At least one of Toure/Eboue should have stopped him. Watch Liverpool defend this lead (well if it stays like this they're through) for the rest of the tie now.

Well it means Benayoun will come on so... no you should be sad since Kuyt will cause us more problems.

1-1 would be the worst possible result (apart from losing obviously), we have got to score one.

It's very tight so far, Liverpool aren't leaving us any space. Hleb in particular has no second on the ball. Eboue has been shit, absolute dogshit. Toure is doing all the attacking for him. He looks a better winger than Eboue.

On the plus side Fabregas has been excellent and Van Persie is getting closer and closer back to his best.

it would help. But Toure has done well at right back, he was a bit unlucky with Gerrard I think. Not as unlucky as Flamini though.

Kuyt gets alot of stick, yet he has one of the best work rates in our squad.
I'll never understand the hate (so-called) Liverpool fans have for him, I think he's a great player and deserves a place in the first squad.

Anyone watching Chelsea? Half-time report? I know they're up to an own goal, bet they can't believe their luck, an away goal in Turkey and they didn't even have to score it.

I thought that was a pretty damn enjoyable first half, for a neutral. Arsenal fully deserved their goal, they were on top. Van Persie had just messed up a chance (the ball over the top from Flamini, he didn't need to kick through it, there was enough pace just to guide it past Reina) followed by a good shot.

Terrible marking though. I dunno who was on Adebayor, but he found himself alone in the centre of the box, which is unforgiveable. Actually Arsenal did something similar later on, from Gerrard's free kick Torres was somehow left in acres of space inside the box, really should have put a better ball in with the time he had. If there's one player on each side you don't leave alone in the box, it's Adebayor and Torres.

Liverpool's goal really came out of nothing. Their passing in the middle of the park had been dreadful, they weren't creating anything with that, then suddenly level. Good stuff from Gerrard, couldn't tell if it came off Kuyt or a defender on my stream, but if it was a defender there's very little you can do if you're having to slide in like that to get to the ball.

After that I thought it was pretty even. Babel's clearly the best route to chances for Liverpool, and for Arsenal I think more balls like Flamini's to Van Persie. Liverpool's defence has shown it's weak to those sort of balls recently. Both sides need to improve their final balls though.

Liverpool will be happier, simply because of the away goal and coming back from behind so quickly. Don't you DARE give me another Liverpool - Chelsea game, Arsenal, don't you fucking dare.

The BBC at least say this about the Chelsea game:

"The opening 45 minutes very much belongs to Avram Grant's team, who have created several good chances."

Good.

No, it was simply brilliant from Adebayor. He stood on the goal line then drifted out as the ball came in, he fully exploited zonal marking by starting in one zone and scoring from another.

van Persie off, injured (shocking I know) Walcott on.

Babel is being surprisingly creative with the ball, not just running at people. Mascherano has been amazing, and Liverpool has Leiva. :( bitter

I always really admire and respect Arsenal until they score a goal and celebrate like despicable cocky bastards or one of the dirty cunts does a dirty tackle (flamini on kuyt was horrible and deliberate). When they celebrate it always looks like they're saying "look at us! what do you think of that then? we're fucking awesome!!!!! so what if we've barely won any games recently" blegh.

It ALMOST makes me sympathetic to Liverpool. Almost.

I thought accusing Arsenal of "celebrating when they score in the round of 8 in the champions league at home against league rivals" was kinda dim considering Ronaldo just recently celebrated like he'd scored the winning goal in the world cup finals after scoring against Derby. But ya just never know.

I wonder if Diaby gets on for Eboue instead of Walcott. Hmmm.

Eboue has been total shit. What the fuck is this guy still doing in the starting side? He can't even pass properly.

RVP has injured his thigh...again. Should seriously consider selling him because he is far too injury prone. At the very least we need to buy in one more striker in anticipation of RVP missing half of next season and Eduardo missing the entire season. Similar logic for Rosicky. Squad needs to be expanded if we're going to keep hold of these guys who get injured all the time.

About the game...we'll probably lose with the shitastic defence we've got going on right now. Amazing what a difference Sagna has made this season.
