Trinidad players to get disputed payment

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP)—A London arbitrator ruled that a group of soccer players from Trinidad and Tobago is entitled to profits from the team’s 2006 World Cup appearance.

Soccer player Kelvin Jack said he and 15 other players had filed a complaint against the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation seeking at least 50 percent of net profits earned.

The government has declined to release that figure. Government officials said the federation received $28 million in gross profits. Federation spokesman Shaun Fuentes declined to comment.

The complaint originally was registered in Trinidad and Tobago, but moved to England—where many of the players play their club soccer—after both sides agreed to arbitration and was decided by Ian Mill.

Jack was one of four players who testified during last month’s hearings. He told The Associated Press on Thursday that he considered the ruling a victory.

He said a judge will decide in June how much each player will receive.

Jack Warner, FIFA vice president, told a local TV station that the federation will pursue justice if it disagrees with the final ruling.

“At the end of the day there are no winners, there will be only losers,” he told Trinidad news station CNC 3.

Warner also said he thought the quarrel would not affect the country’s drive to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

This is probably my last year up there. I can only post this much because I work from home, most of which is answering emails when they come in. It leaves me a hell of a lot of free time, but I still have to be here when emails come in, during the day at least, so sitting at the PC all day...what else to do? There's only so much time you can spend jacking off.

Come September/October time I'll be at uni and the workload first year is actually quite intense. Without this job and with lectures and essays and socialising and things, I expect my post count to at least halve. I probably won't be able to comment on matches that much either, except during holidays of course, pretty sure they'll be blocking things like sopcast as they do torrents. My friend's uni (that girl I was telling you about) won't even show swearing...I mean, these people are over 18, it's draconian. And I'm not gonna get myself thrown out for watching illegal streams even if they don't block them, they might find out anyway and it's just not worth it.

I like this Chelsea team, and I'm confident they'll get a result tonight.

I simply cant see Ballack, Essien, Makalele and Lampard not putting in everything. They'll out muscle Carrick and co. and not allow any space for Rooney, Ronaldo and Park to get free.

It would be interesting to see if Chelsea actually take a risk, and push the defence forward, pressing United at every opportunity.

It seems that's the only way to beat them. Push and push and push for 90 minutes.

Well uni breaks are pretty damn long, especially at Durham who like to think it should be Oxbridgham and go on their scheduling, so it won't be a problem to get what I want to, I just won't necessarily get to watch things the second they come out. And they probably can't do anything about a rapidshare account anyway.

Normal first year probably is, mine's foundation first year, as I don't have the right background to go straight into the degree. It's like compressing your A levels down into one year apparently.

My post count is going to do down too. I'm off to uni so I'll be busy doing uni stuff, well all the uni stuff minus most lectures, most essays and more of getting drunk and making most of living by myself with no one watching me! I'll try to do the minimum I can without getting kicked out.

Plus I'll be watching games at a pub rather than sitting at home watching with a laptop in front of me posting in here. My parents said they'll get me a United season ticket, but actually getting one is pretty difficult since there's probably a massive waiting list.

To call them racist would be far fetched as it is a tradition that had intentions to develop Mexican players instead of buying expensive foreigners like America, and Im not a fan of the team. This is the same thing that happens in other parts of the world such as Atletico Bilboa in the Basque region of Spain.

It would be a mistake not putting rooney and tevez upfront imo.

I reckon giggs will play over park because of the experience giggs has, but I reckon that would be a mistake. Giggs' performances have been pretty bad lately, whilst Park has been playing pretty well. I'd like to see park start, or maybe even nani. The problem with nani is that although he's pretty skillful and can put in a good cross, he's also very wasteful. Against Chelsea he was the one getting into the best positions, but he always lost the ball.

I would view it with a little er... scepticism...cos there's little chance that growing up in America you can have the same appreciation of the sport that we do. the geographical rivalries, the banter with friends who support rival clubs, the comeraderie of fans and loads of other things.

doesnt mean your support isnt legitimate, or that you're any less dedicated or passionate, if anything foreign fans have more challenges than local fans. Its harder to watch the game, you feel disconnected etc. its just that appreciation of the club and sport would be different or underdeveloped.

if I was foreigner I would probably still gravitate towards Utd cos of their history and what the club represents etc etc - but my support would be underdeveloped without loads of time and research and playing the game.
