Pre-Bosman the employment "rules" in football was like slave ownership. Absolutely disgusting. They all cried foul about it. Made fuck-all difference to football, players could just move more freely.

Transfer fees are not against the law. They are compensation to another club for buying a player in a contract. They are standard practice in other industries when high value individuals move but they aren't called transfer fees.

Why would you say transfer fees would fall if the anti-tapping up rules are officially revoked? They would have no real effect on transfer fees.

Tapping up goes on all the time. Sometimes clubs, managers and fans throw hysterical fits over it as if they are shocked that it happens. Most clubs are total hypocrites in the whole situation. It's just another labour market.
if players can be tapped up during their contract they surely must be able to buy out their contracts from day 1 (not after 3 years for under 28 year olds and 2 for over 28 year olds), which would mean that transfer fees are gone as a result of it.

It basically means they can quit any time they feel like it.

An update on the whole Marcelo Moreno affair. Today two conflicting unconfirmed reports were released. One states that Shakhtar Donetsk signed him for 9 million euros and another report states that Werder Bremen signed him for 8.5 million euros.

Moreno apparently hates Donetsk but it isn't really his choice anymore.

Buying out the contract would cost several million in that instance.

In any case there would be new buy-out clauses in the contract to provide further compensation.

Having normal employment law enforced in football won't destroy football at all. What may happen is that players move more often. If people are going to get angry, get angry at the players in the first place for showing no loyalty, not the clubs who are just doing their job.

Apparently, La Gazzetta Dello Sport stated this evening that Mancini is fired. They said there was a meeting a couple of hours ago, where he got the message.

His bottle went when we knocked them out of the Champions League (a sore point for you considering Skrtel still has Ibrahimovic in his back pocket)

They probably talked him into staying for the end of the season by saying he'll get a nice pay off.

About Navas and Bojan.
Navas has an extreme case of anxiety, he can't be away from his family and home much time or else he gets sick.
Bojan wont go to euro08 for different matters. He has been playing for Spain 3 summers in a row now, without a rest, and last year he leaded the sub-17 team winning the world cup in Korea. This year he has played an important role in Barça and he wants to keep delivering, he knows he would not play more than some spare minutes, and there'll be more chances for him to play with Spain other euros and world cups, there's no reason for him to go right now if he doesn't feels prepared or rested. It doesn't help that Marca and most of the spanish press is mad about Raul not going and would probably blame it on the kid.

I just realized I have the Fox Soccer Channel. Is it any good or does it play old stuff a lot?

Er, shit.

It's what most of us use. I know I've got the supersecretelite Setanta channel which shows the other half of american EPL games though.

Do you have GolTV too? They're usually in the same pack.

FSC is solid. Depends what you want to watch. If you have FSC, GolTV, and Setanta, you're getting pretty much everything that's available in the US except for a few things that are in Spanish.

Shit the guy's 22. But on the other hand I can understand that, extreme anxiety is nae good.

Bojan got it too, no way you don't represent your country in a big competition after a month of doing sweet fa. Owen gets stick for pulling out of a friendly with Trinidad..if it's not anxiety it's still odd.

How much do you pay for that? Is it worth it? If I got that would I basically be able to see every big game?

Weird stuff about Bojan. It's important for him to be there just as a learning experience - not sure I completely understand the logic behind him skipping unless it's an anxiety thing. He would've been very useful off the bench, too.

I think it's $14-15 / month on DTV these days.

Don't think so, just FSC, which I thought was Fox Sport Center or something until about an hour ago.

It's good stuff. Most full matches are English and South American though.

Time Warner splits the two apart into different digital cable packages. FSC is in "general" and GolTV is in "sports".

It used to be Fox Sports World and they'd show rugby and other things from time to time. Now it's Fox Soccer Channel and I think it's all soccer with some infomercials thrown in.

Neat, I'll finish this Columbia vs Argentina game where the guy got robbed a goal and see what else is on when I'm not watching other stuff.

See you guys.

FSC is fine. They usually just show a feed from England. They have the English announcers, etc.
