Don't believe everything you read. THe papers have to print something.
Yeah. I know that the papers are making up 90% of the ronaldo stories, but I'm still letting it get to me even though I know most of it is bullshit.

It's official, Dos Santos to Spurs :(
Im really mad at Nou Camp atm, they forced his way out of Barça just because they liked Bojan better. I guess Guardiola had the last word about it, but still is kind of sad, he just turned 19 and has a lot of potential. At the top of it we didn't even get much for him, just 6m€ plus 5m more if he plays regularly and 20% of a future transfer.

Sevilla's president Del Nido said yesterday that Alves will likely sign for Barça in the next few days.

Pique, Seydou Keita, Caceres and Alves so far. Now we need someone who can play as left-wing and a striker if Eto'o leaves.

puts us up to 21.

You got 7 more hours to sign up people, pull your finger out.

cool, 23.

9 to go and we have 32 which would be perfect (though it doesn't matter if we don't, but I'd prefer it).

I think I'll put Mama in anyway, just because I can so that means 8 to go.

Wes, MrPing, Steroyd, MLS people, Avaya etc. - sign up ...

Geo needed to stay in Barca, I wonder whats going to happen to him in Spurs. I dont think the manager wanted him either.

Don't press gang me.

As I told had in a PM, I'm having money issues so I wasn't gonna take part, but I feel guilty as it was my idea, so I'll join but I can only put £2 (minimum betfair stake) on it.

God, if Milan get given a place in this years Champions League, after getting reinstated the year they themselves got "kicked out" I'll have lost all faith. v.v;;

Yeah because it's Milan who calls UEFA and tells them about corruption in Romania, Bulgaria and Portugal....

Goalkeepers are concerned with the ball being used for Euro 08. Sounds similar to the complaints about the 06 World Cup ball to me.

BBC said:
Czech Republic star Petr Cech has become the latest goalkeeper to criticise the new Euro 2008 ball.

The 26-year-old Chelsea keeper feels the ball is difficult to judge because it deviates so much in flight.

He said: "The new ball is really unpredictable. We will see lots of goals from 30 metres out.

"The balls are so quick, they have scarcely any wind resistance and they can change direction any second, also in the last five metres."

He told Rotweiss, the online magazine of the Swiss Football Association: "It therefore won't help at all to see the ball coming from a distance."

Cech added: "And the TV commentators will again say 'what was the goalkeeper doing there? He surely got his hand to it'."

Croatia keeper Stipe Pletikosa joined the chorus of concern, saying: "Those balls are going all over the place, changing direction all the time, especially if fired from a distance."

Manchester United's Edwin van der Sar, who will be goal for Holland, said: "They are not designing balls for goalkeepers."

And Portugal's Ricardo added: "Everything that is new in football today is to hurt us. Nothing is done for our benefit." Germany keeper Jens Lehmann has previously voiced concerns over the ball ahead of the tournament, which starts on Saturday, saying: "You have to be brave to try to hold onto the ball. You really have to be happy just to stop it from going in."

I can't believe Barca let Dos Santos leave so easily. I guess they didn't have as much faith in him after all.

6 to go, why wouldn't I let you in?

It's only June and we already have a winner for most stupid maneuver of the transfer window. Considering he has had no stability in terms of appearances due partly to injury and partly because Barca had Messi, Etoo, Ronnie and Henry on their books as well as Bojan also coming through he's done well for a debut season.

He got 4 goals and 4 assists, but he also played a key role in instigating the moves for quite a few goals including 2 of the goals against Lyon at home. His style of very direct runs he makes off the ball and some of the more direct passes that he's willing to make(such as the one that set up the second goal against Recre) was exactly the kind of thing Barca needed when you look at some of the laborious passing play they come up with.

But it also seems short sighted on his side, there's a reasonably good chance he won't see any champions league football at spurs, so even if he does well, unless he moves on maybe to one of the top 4, or perhaps to Italy or maybe Real, he could very well end up making a lot less money long term than he would have if he stayed on and succeeded at Barca(and again no champions league football in the meantime).

Ok I'll sign up.

The winner would be Madrid getting Ronaldo, since the rumor is they are offering 9.5 million a yr for 5 yrs, and thats after taxes + the 80-90 mill they would need to pay Utd.

And Dos Santos needed to get out of Barca, he was never going to make it there, he is just not good enough.

There's 4 more spots. So you better be quick now.

Signing up will close when we reach 32 or at 8 tonight, whichever happens first.

C'mon QVT.

How long is his ban? Can he still log in and pm while the ban is in effect?

But he got banned for a really shitty reason AND he did read the OP. One month is too harsh, but what can you expect of the worst mod on this board (I am probably getting banned as well)?

Which post of his pissed off the mod?

EDIT: BTW, I got banned for a pretty shitty reason myself. I was banned for discussing ZOE3 in the Konami conference thread apparently because the thread was to discuss Konami's conference and since ZOE3 was not a part of the conference, the topic is taboo. I think around 10 people including myself were banned. :lol

I see.

Tough luck, I guess.

Well at least the timing of his ban wasn't as bad as mine. I couldn't post during the CL final, FFS.
He's getting banned for the euro!

I'm gonna miss him. I dont agree with his hate for italy and ronaldo, but he does come up with some funny stuff about them.

Apparantly ronaldo has agreed a 150,000 pound a week contract with real.

Just goes to show how much bullshit there is in the press. Yesterday he was going to be offered 300K. Now they're reporting half of that. Tomorrow we'll hear that his wages will be the ticket money of the bernebeau.

just did a test-draw and got Holland. Which makes extremely unlikely that I'm getting a good team in the actual draw. Have to say that Mama's system works extremely well though, good stuff.

WHO WANTS THE FINAL PLACE IN THE EURO POOL?

edit: missed your post tim, you're the final one.

One of the better known posters over on BigSoccer, voros, put together a simulation of Euro2008 results based on his ranking system. He's put these together in the past. Voros is better known for doing work with baseball stastics and there's a lot about him in Moneyball, but he's a huge soccer fan, as well.
Voros said:
I have a mathematical ranking system that I keep track of on a semi-regular basis. One of the things I use it for is simulating the results of tournaments. So, for example, I simmed the 2006 World Cup 10,000 times and tracked how often each team won, advanced, etc.

Here it is for Euro 2008:

To Win:
France = 16.4%
Spain = 11.82%
Holland = 11.64%
Czechs = 10.42%
Germany = 10.39%
Italy = 7.49%
Portugal = 5.7%
Romania = 5.62%
Swiss = 4.64%
Croatia = 4.62%
Sweden = 3.77%
Turkey = 2.48%
Greece = 1.69%
Poland = 1.49%
Russia = 1.3%
Austria = 0.53%

To advance:
Spain = 74.18%
Germany = 73%
France = 62.16%
Czechs = 61.27%
Croatia = 55.36%
Swiss = 54.81%
Holland = 53.14%
Sweden = 51.63%
Portugal = 50.25%
Italy = 45.4%
Greece = 39.45%
Romania = 39.3%
Poland = 36.76%
Austria = 34.88%
Russia = 34.74%
Turkey = 33.67%

You can see what a nightmare the group of death is for France, Holland, Italy and Romania. It's pretty rare for a favorite to win a tournament like this not be the favorite to advance. France's biggest challenges are all in its group as France, Holland and Italy are the three top ranked teams in the tournament. Romania is no slouch either, ranked 7th among the 16 teams.

Home field advantage is always difficult to account for in tournaments like this (where most everyone is fairly close to home) so take the results for the Swiss and Austrians with a grain of salt (they are given full benefits for home field).
I'm very surprised with the Italy and France numbers. Doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. The rest of it is more or less in line with what I'd expect, though Switzerland and Austria do seem to get more of a bump for home field advantage than they should. This thread has a long discussion of his simulation for the 2006 World Cup. Does anyone have similar odds/numbers from European sources?
