How was the match? Were there many scoring chances or was it a dull 0-0 draw?

Edit: And what's going on w/ Nguyen? Is he going out on loan or staying w/ PSV?

He's played well this game so far. It annoyed me earlier when he burst out to the right wing and crossed it in, and neither of the two Liverpool players in the box went towards the front post. Made it look like a rubbish cross.

It was a decent match. PSV didn't have most of their strikers (Farfan, Kone, Perez), and neither did AC Milan (Gilardino, Ronaldo, Inzaghi). Lazovic scored an offside goal, there were some more decent chances on both sides, but it wasn't that exciting. Our new Brazilian talent Jonathan Reis (18 years) did pretty well, too. AC Milan was somewhat stronger, but I was surprised at how PSV's midfield (with youngster Afellay, Bakkal and Aisatti) kept up with the likes of Seedorf, Gatusso and Pirlo.

Nguyen's not part of the selection that went to Moscow, and I don't think he is injured either. It's kind of unclear. There were some rumours about VVV Venlo (who just this year promoted to the Eredivisie) wanting to loan Nguyen for a year, but PSV wants to give Nguyen a chance to prove himself at PSV. I'll keep you informed on his situation, but for now it's very unclear.

I'm now watching Real - Lokomotiv with ze German commentary.

Thanks, Falch. Yeah, there's been sketchy info as to whether he'd go on loan, stay w/ PSV, or be demoted to the youth team, but I couldn't get any clear indication on which way it was going.

I'm quite impressed with Leto. It's hard to judge against this sort of opposition, but he's done quite well. One stupid choice on a cross after good work down the wing though.

Leiva on the other hand (Lucas I've been calling him, but it's Leiva on his shirt)...some pretty poor passes. Not convinced.

While Shanghai aren't brilliant, they have got behind the Liverpool defence a few times. Look quite dodgy, but it is largely a reserve defence.

That Man City target seems like it might be Mark Bresciano. Australian international, currently plays for Palermo, has played in italy most of his career, 27, useful signing as he can play left wing or central midfield.

The Palermo coach says he's leaving, and he has been linked to City, so it all seems to add up.

I only watched the first 30 minutes of the AC vs PSV game because it was really boring. With the way things were going, I knew it was going to be a bore draw so I just stopped watching. Its probably more interesting for falch because he supports PSV, but from a neutrals point of view it was pretty poor.

Are you Man U fans worried at all about City's spending? They're obviously not going to challenge you this season, but they're sure as hell building their strength fast. They'll have the basis of a really good team this year, then next summer they'll only have to sign a few players so can pour all their money into top quality, especially if they get into Europe which will attract bigger names.

A few years down the line...who knows, could be in the CL.

Glad that the deal of Tevez finally goes on. I was a bit worry that our only backup striker was Dong after Smith and Rossi have gone (and before Saha or Solskjær stays fit).

P.S. My first post on 07/08 thread, seems a bit LTTP :lol

The only thing I am worried is that I won't see City relegated for couples of years :P
In fact the derby matches this season will be more interesting. Even as a United fans, I enjoy watching matches of higher standard.

I wish Villa were spending a bit more like City are to be honest... I'm starting to worry a tad

I can see City getting into the UEFA cup, but CL isnt going to happen. Tottenham look like they're the closest to breaking into the top four and I dont even think thats going to happen.

Well villa are negotioating new deals for mellberg and sorenson, so atleast they are doing something productive.

Despite the huge squad United have, we dont really have that many options for the community shield. This is team i think we will field

----------------------------Van Der Sar------------------------------

Brown---------------Ferdinand--------Vidic--------------------Evra

Ronaldo-------------Carrick-----------Fletcher--------------Nani

--------------------Giggs------------Rooney----------------------

We've got quite a few injured players that we and we're missing tevez, so there are not as many options as we would like.

Falch - this is from Wednesday, but it has some good info in it. Not sure if you've read it.

Nguyen Loan Saga Turns Again
by Greg Seltzer - August 1, 2007

The loan status of PSV Eindhoven attack apprentice Lee Nguyen has again been thrown up in the air by a bump up in coach Ronald Koeman's depth chart.

The US international appeared set for a season with Eredivisie risers VVV Venlo, but on Tuesday, Farmers general manager Stan Valckx told Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad that the club were no longer interested in loaning out the #24 shirt.

This declaration is far from the only thing spicing up the serial, however, as teams from France, the Netherlands and Spain have stayed in the picture for a loan.

PSV are also concerned about an offense outage when they kick off the Eredivisie slate at Heracles Almelo on August 19th. Key cogs Jefferson Farfán and Arouna Koné are in heavy doubt for the start of the new season, while Kenneth Perez and Mika Väyrynen are nursing less severe maladies.

To boot, offseason addition Danko Lazovic arrives carrying as two-game ban and Jason Culina is being linked with a move away.

Last, but not least, Nguyen has been performing quite admirably since returning from USMNT Copa America duty. He put on a Young PSV star show in Thursday's 4-0 friendly win over the Go Ahead Eagles second squad, including a stunning goal for the capper.

"They're happy with what he's been doing," his agent, Lyle Yorks, told American Soccer Daily. "He's moved up in their estimation, but he still needs a chance to play week-in and week-out."

With a full month until the close of the transfer window, the American has time to wait and see what kind of first team opportunity he will get from Koeman before deciding on a course for the length of the season.

"We're still looking at options, and PSV is in the loop all the way," added Yorks. "If things look good and it looks like he's going to get a chance to play, then he'll stay - if not, there are several teams ready to take him on loan."

Nguyen's rep did make it clear that a loan would in no way be preface to a permanent move away from Philips Stadion.

"If he left (for the season), he would still have two years left on his PSV contract," he noted. "He'd come back."

Yeah, great goal.

I think City's progress up the league depends on if they keep spending or not. If they get £40m+ to spend each summer, they'll soon enough be spending it just on a few players, so a £20m player and to £10m players. If this just an initial massive cash injection to be followed up by normal amounts, then they'll just do well.

Inter are close to signing emerson. Things didnt work out for him at real madrid, but at juve and roma emerson was an excellent player, I'd say he was one of the best midfielders in the world. If it does happen then inter have one hell of a midfield. They'll can choose from emerson, cambiasso and vieira to play in central midfield.

It must be really depressing for juve fans to see both vieira and emerson now play for Inter.

I read some news that Neville will be able to play on Sunday. If true, at least our defense is in full team.

So as of right now, who do people see as the top 4, UEFA Cup teams, and the relegation candidates?

Top 4: Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool
UEFA: Hotspur, Portsmouth, Newcastle
Relegation: Derby, Fulham, Wigan

City can sign as many players as they want, what matters is if they can gel together. I don't know if Eriksson has the ability to do this.

Man Utd are short of fit players but I still think with Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs and Nani (Maybe Anderson?) we can win the Community Shield. I think we'll go with what psycho_snake suggested only with C. Ronaldo + Rooney up front, Giggs on the left and Nani on the right.

Also, it looks like Tevez can join Man Utd. now. :D

Finally! Well thats good news if true. We could really do with neville back, he's such a consistant player.

Real's on fire now, they're 3-2 ahead. :lol
Shit, what a comeback.

Hadn't seen it, and I didn't know Nguyen had played for the youth team. Perhaps Koeman wants him around, since we've only got Farfan, Kone, Lazovic, Perez, Zeefuik and Reis for the 3 positions up front.

Anderson won't be there.

I'm backing Eriksson to repeat his club career and early England career, not what happened later on.

If anyone cares (maybe Wes?), one of our worst signing in decade - Djemba*2 has terminated his contract with Villa. I think some teams in Division 1 may be interested in him...

Just a small update: last year's football thread needed 14 days to come to the same amount as posts as we've done in 3 days this year. :lol

Awesome picture Hooker. Just look at Zonneveld. :lol

But reading most of Community Shield preview, Gary is still in the injury list. Maybe it is still too early to say if he can play now, but probably for the start of season

he's been out for ages. When he first got injured they expected it to be only for a few weeks, but its been a couple of months now.

Can't wait for the new Premiership season to get underway, and Comm shield on Sunday should be a nice appetizer.

For any United fans, if you want to see United's game against Doncaster tonight (on now) you can via a program called Sopcast. Supposdly Alex might be giving Hargreaves and Anderson a run out tonight.

:lol This thread is going to be a lot bigger than last seasons. If we say that on average 100 posts are made in this thread, then this thread could reach up to 36500 posts!

Anderson's playing up front for United against Doncaster. No Hargreaves, I guess he's playing tomorrow.
I cant watch it at the moment because my dad wants to finish watching ladder 49 >:(

I expect Ferguson intends to play a 4-4-2 most of the time this season, but I have a suspicion he might end up switching to a 4-3-3 at some point. They certainly have the players:

--------Scholes---Hargreaves---Carrick---------

--Ronaldo--------------------------------Rooney--

-----------------------Tevez------------------------

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////

--------Anderson----O'Shea------Giggs----------

----Park-----------------------------------Nani----

------------------------Saha------------------------

Or Fletcher instead of O'Shea, or Giggs instead of Park and Fletcher where Giggs is etc.

Leeds can play in League One next year, but only with a 15 point deduction.

They probably won't be relegated, but it'll be hard to come straight back up from that.

5-2 for Real Madrid with the game just about finished.

A game of two halfs for sure!

Who scored?

Guti (2), Higuain, Saviola and Blaboa

Great to see Schuster putting some faith in Guti - he turned a fair few games around last season when he came on as a sub. Underrated player.

It's complicated, but as I understand it they tried to go into administration at the end of last season, but Revenues & Customs challenged that as they would have had a considerable amount of debt they were owed written off and the administration didn't go through.

I think they had been told they couldn't compete in the League at all unless they go through administration before the start start of the season, but now it appears to be just a points deduction.

I probably have details wrong, I didn't follow it too closely.

If I remember rightly going into administration causes an automatic points reduction. If they did it during the 2006/07 season then the points would be taken on then. Anything after the final whistle on the final day would be rolled over to the next season.

They waited until the final day of the season, watching the rest of the games to see if they were definetely going to get relegated or not. At about 4:45 they noticed from the way the other games were going they decided to announce their going into administration therefore lose 15 points, not that it would've mattered in the whole staying up/going down thing.

I think it is these sneaky tactics that have caused this decision today.

I can see that happening too.

Ive been watching the last 15 minutes of the second half. Nothing much happened other than kuzszak making a really good save. Its a short space of time to judge anyone, but anderson didnt do much at all. He had one off target shot and that was about it. Its been quite dull, but I wasnt expecting anything special from our reserves. I'm a little disappointed hargreaves isnt playing, but atleast we get to see anderson.

It's really just for fitness. I can't judge him without the better players around him, there isn't the movement or the balls to him that he'd have in the first team.

Plus he's up front, which he apparently can play, but he wouldn't in the actual side.

Dong's on for Anderson anyway....might stop watching.

He's irregular and excesively childish, he's been given lots of chances but never made much of it.
