Is this some kind of old gaf tradition that "soccer" threads are never sticky? Not that its a big problem with subscription and its always on the first page anyway, but.. just weird. :)

It's become tradition as the mods aren't the biggest fans of the real football. =(

iapetus actually does post in this thread.

I think it's a good thing that it's not getting stickied though. We're a bit under the radar and still the biggest thread on this board. I enjoy being the underdog

If you keep complaining about the lack of sticky in a thread mods don't really read I'm sure the mods will hear your cry by osmosis!!!

Well iapetus posting in here is a start but either way the mods can fuck off. We're always on the first page either way.

I don't care about a sticky, I've just bookmarked the first page of this thread so I don't have to look around trying to find it in the OT.

Seven of our nine new players this season:

Missing are Kenneth Perez and Casio Ramos. Also not on the picture but returning from loan are Ismael Aissati and Otman Bakkal.

Can't wait for the new season to start. PSV will play Ajax for the Supercup this saturday.

It is strange because this thread will probably be the biggest thread on gaf. This thread is close to 800 posts just after a week.

I dont mind not being tagged though. As had said, we're under the radar. Its not difficult to find this thread even if its not stickied because its almost always on the first page of OT.

Sounds like Adebayor is back in training.

Adebayor trained yesterday and looked fit*

*Disclaimer: When I say “fit”, I mean “footballistically speaking”. Though I do of course also find him very attractive.

I watched Mean Machine a few years ago, but I don't remember too much. I think it was entertaining but not great.

I've read up on them quite a bit and full of shit is closer to the truth. More specifically, Myles Palmer is.

They are enthusiastic though, and they do have some decent articles.

Until recently I thought Myles Palmer was reliable, I was very wrong though.

edit: hold on, didn't you say the same thing not too long ago?

I was speaking mostly of the non-Myles Palmer stuff. Sorry, I should've been more specific about that. They had someone do a season preview which was decent, but I have no idea who's working there besides Palmer. Palmer is taken to task pretty often by a lot of fans for being full of shit.

Here's the preseason player reviews, btw:
Part 1
Part 2

yeah, I read it this morning when I got to work to get me all fired up and motivated for the rest of the day
(it didn't work).

I liked it a lot, though of course I didn't agree with everything. Not that that's even possible.

Did anyone else see Mean Machine? I watched that when I was really drunk a few years ago. Don't remember if it was any good. (See, that was sort of football related.)
I fell asleep watching it.

You thought player reviews were going to get you motivated to do work? :D

Within the player reviews, I was most impressed by Randall being sent off 3 times in the last 18 months, one of which was for headbutting a Spurs player. Good times.

Racism should be punished more seriously. Aragones got a fine when he made that comment about henry, but he should have had a more severe punishment, like being sacked. You cant expect to kick racism out of football if you give a manager of a national team a meaningless fine.

I dont really like the two lines on the left side, but apart from that it looks like a pretty decent kit.

MLS Playoff update:

If the playoffs started today...

* Western Conference
1. Houston 34 points
2. FC Dallas 33

* Eastern Conference
1. New England 33
2. Kansas City 29

Wild cards
> DC United 27
> Chivas USA 27
> New York 27
> Columbus 26

- Thus, the playoffs would look like this:

Western Conference
1 Houston vs. 4 Columbus
2 FC Dallas vs 3 Chivas USA

Eastern Conference
1 New England vs 4 New York
2 Kansas City vs 3 DC United

Of course, not all teams have played the same number of games. The Galaxy has played the fewest with 13 matches played while Houston has played 20 games already. This will constantly change of course but we'll update it as the season continues.

It's sad how far we have fallen. If we don't win Sunday against Toronto then it's going to be like 1999 all over again. It's like the Gods hate this team. We were finally getting Dema Kovalenko back from injury and the dude gets in a car accident. It wasn't serious but if he misses the game because of that I will be pissed. Sorry Shinobi but your boys gotta lose.

Pfft...you'll be the ones doing the losing. Er, if we can score a goal for the first time in two months.

Well if nothing else, they'll be a few bus loads of TFC fans from the Red Patch Boys and U-Sector fan clubs at the stadium to liven the place up. If we can't outscore ya, we'll just outcheer ya!

Outcheer US? I appreciate your fans and all but there's no way we'll let you guys outsing us in our park. Our numbers aren't the greatest but we're known to be some of the best voices in the league my man.

Sounds like Denilson may still make his way to Dallas...

Denílson Talks 'Still Open'
by Greg Seltzer - August 8, 2007

The agent for World Cup 2002 champ Denílson says his client has handed favored suitors FC Dallas some notes on their contract offer and is hoping to get a positive reply this weekend.

The unsettled Al-Nassar attacker has other offers on the table, but has placed the MLS side at the top of the heap.

"The situation is still open," Antonio Barrera assured American Soccer Daily on Wednesday. "At the moment, we are having discussions about the contract, and are waiting on a reply.

"Of course, we have spoken with other clubs, but the player prefers to play in Dallas."

So I'm not alone in thinking there's nothing going on, huh?
It's just the calm before the storm. Season are starting or about to start, and this thread will be at its busiest point in a while.

There are reports that Robben may cost Real 37m euros, which just continues to show how completely inept the people in charge of the team are.

Oh yeah, on that topic I can add that the rumour is Chelsea want Real Madrid to agree to back out of any race to sign Alves before they can have Robben.

Chelsea could do with Robben right now anyway (assuming his "injury" is just covering up that he might leave), being the one midfielder they have who could actually do a decent job as a striker.

There hasn't been much interest in Alves anyway.

The price for Robben is beyond ridiculous, but that's what you get for paying 30m for freaking Pepe!!!

Drenthe took his case to the dutch federation, so Feyenoord would let him leave, so that's looking good.

United are playing a surpisingly strong line up against Dunfermline tonight, given that there are only 4 days until Reading.

Kuszczak
Bardsley
Brown
Pique
Silvestre
Fletcher
Scholes
Hargreaves
Eagles
Giggs
Rooney

And there other match, off at Glentoran, I don't have a line up but I know the squad (which is only 14 man strong, so it's likely they'll pretty much all play at some point) includes Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Carrick, O'Shea, Nani, Anderson, Dong...
