You can change one player a week with no consequences. And by week I mean gameweek, so between now and Tuesday. Any more and it costs you points every time (4 I think). For one week only in the entire season you can play a wildcard, which will let you transfer as many players as you want, no point deduction. I'm saving that in case 4 of my team manage to pick up long term injuries or something though.

Shinobi your team got ROCKED

My man Altidore scored 2 and Angel scored 1 to make it 3-0 to the Metroboys.

As for your fans that came down. I'm sorry but they only sing when they're winning. We had a little altercation at the end which resulted in the cops blocking us off from each other, but nothing big went down. However, there was a HUGE german shepherd there and I fought it.

Guess who won?

Me.

Sorry bud, we rocked you at BMO and at Giants Stadium. AND we brought the fucking noise. Just because you guys have scarves doesn't mean you can outsing us.

Also,

Hi, ho, Ontario, your bacon's just ham!

I'm not doing bad, tied for 6th with 47 points. I need to get me some Hleb, maybe change my captain to Fabregas lol. Cristiano didn't do shit today.

Well, Madrid shows once again that they have no interest in saving money, but I'm still happy. The team needed some serious help in the midfield and if they have the money to spend, who am I to protest. :D

I'd like for them to go for Alves and forget about Robben just to fuck with Chelsea.

---------------------Casillas--------------------
Ramos-----Pepe------Cannavaro-----Marcelo/Torres
----------------------Diarra-------------------
---------------Sneijder----------------------
Robinho------------------------------Drenthe
------------------------------Raul----------------
----------------Ruud-----------------------------

YES! :D

And I only put Raul, because no matter what, he will play. :-(

Oh that's nothing the goal keeper of the opposition against Liverpool at Anfield almost always gets Man of the Match even if they lose.

Hope that changes this season.

Same thing happened at the Emirates last year...seemed like every motherfucker with gloves that played against us had his career game in our digs. Doesn't look like anything's changed this season. :lol

Of course Rooney has injury problems. Didn't you hear? We have England games coming up, and traditionally before every England game half our squad go out of their way to get injured. So now it's Rooney, Owen, Lennon, Beckham, Terry, King, Woodgate, Bridge, Neville, Foster. Oh and Crouch is suspended. And there's still a couple more matches for everyone else to get injured!

Go England!

:lol Theo Walcott might be a starting center forward for the squad at this rate...and I doubt he even touches that position for us before the first qualifier. Hear the lions roar.

USA-Mexico at Azteca on Sept. 9, rumored to be in trouble, has been cancelled. USA-Brazil at Soldier Field on the same day has been agreed upon. Not a bad replacement match, huh?

No reason given for the change, but Spanish TV rights were believed to be part of the problem for the original matchup.

So Brazil will play the U.S. lads on the 9th on ESPN2, then meet Mexico three days later at Foxborough.

No comment from the USSF, but expect an official announcement soon.

I think both players are overpriced.Sure that's what the market climate is ie,but it's still ridiculous.

I was bored, so I checked how many posts we had made in last years thread during the first 12 days. Last year there were 372 posts in the first thirteen days, this year we are over 1700. Its quite amazing just how big the football threads have become.

I'm going to become a big part of this now as I wasn't really in OT when last season was going on. So you can chalk up another Gunners (and Wolves, but I can't really root for Wolves here in Orange County) fan.

Arsenal will do it! Oh yeah!

I'm a Wolves fan, born in a Wanderers scarf and all that.

I just happen to also like Arsenal. Please, make Wolves win and I'll desert the shit out of Arsenal.

Born in Laguna Beach and then later raised on the mean streets of Mission Viejo. (South O.C. represent!) I live in Los Angeles these days though.

Unrelated: I knew there was a reason I didn't like Charlie on Hotel Babylon.

Unfortunately our Spurs fan has been rather quiet since Saturday. Friday he was still in a bullish mood, strange how these things work for Spurs when actual football is being played. They are always excellent in the summer break though, especially verbally.

Rooney's injury is a blow, but I'm not too concerned because we've got tevez. The worrying thing is tevez match fitness. fergie said that he looked in good shape during training, so hopefully he'll be ok to get through a whole game.

I'd be always very careful with players that haven't had a decent summer break - they are prone to injury if they haven't had enough of a break. Gilberto for instance will not play for another 2 weeks, Wenger said they have a special program to get him ready for the Premiership.

So rushing Tevez might not be the best idea either.

So West Ham have already made me £25 this season, gotta love the bookies buying into our 'push for europe' and hating sven, made the odds of West Ham losing very favourable. Hopefully we can get something away at Birmingham to get the season started, good news is their keeper looks god awful so it could be a good confidence booster for Bellamy & co even if we dont get the points.

Im feeling good about my prediction for Man Citys high finish now though, they looked very continental in the way they controlled the game, but full of pace as well. Could be v.dangerous for Man U this week.

He might have to be used aginst Portsmouth though. Saha and solskjaer have just started training after coming back from injury, so they wont be able to start. Tevez is the one striker that can start the game.

I didnt predict man city to finsih that highly, but Im beginning to think that may be a bad decision. They looked good against west ham. I wasnt expecting them to gel straight away, but the new plyers looked pretty comfortable playing with each other.

Its still too early to judge them. They had one good game, but they might not be able play like that often. We've seen before that a new manager starts off really well and then ends up not doing so well. It happened to curbishley. He beat united and the team played very well, but after that they didnt do well. The same thing could happen with city, but I dont think it will. Sven has changed city completely. The club has a new manager with a new group of players, so its quite different to curbishleys situation. I expect city to play well most games.

Toronto: FieldTurf
New York: LINETurf lolz

One game in and Tevez might already be the most astute buy of the season without kicking a ball, simply due to Rooney going down. Shows just how important squad depth is though...if Van Persie had suffered an injury yesterday, we would be FUCKED.

BTW, Persie's penalty was one of the best I've seen in a while...no goalie in the world would've stopped that one. Clinical stuff.

Already Arsenal are in the dock

By CHARLIE WYETT
August 13, 2007

LAWRIE SANCHEZ slammed Arsenal as divers after Fulham were floored by a late show.

David Healy gave the visitors a shock first-minute lead — but the Gunners hit back through a Robin Van Persie penalty and Alex Hleb’s last-gasp winner.

Fulham boss Sanchez fumed: “I haven’t seen the penalty incident but there were three simulations that went unopposed.

“That gives people the impression they can get away with it. It doesn’t surprise me the penalty was given when they go down in the box.

There were at least three claims in the first half for penalties.

“If they weren’t penalties, then they were simulation. It’s either one or the other. I said to ref Phil Dowd ‘You can’t keep having people going down in the box and it’s not penalties’.

“If Phil had booked someone with it, people wouldn’t have been as ready to go down in the box.

“I was at the same meeting with Arsene Wenger and refs’ chief Keith Hackett and they did say that simulation was going to be a big ‘no’ this year.”

But Arsenal boss Wenger insisted: “Hleb is adamant there was a 100 per cent penalty in the first half. I am against simulation and I deny we simulated.

“You cannot be coach and encourage these things.

"It’s difficult to say if it’s simulation or not for a referee but the only way to cut it out is to allow people to receive red cards after the game. I am for the use of video in any way.”

Good to see Wenger and I think alike. :lol @ diving accusations BTW...dude needs to upgrade his perscription.

yeah, you might not have another choice, which could be bad news - but doesn't have to be of course.

after Mama posted the fixtures of the big 4 last night, I really think that both Manyoo and Chelsea are in for a very rough few weeks, especially with Rooney and potentially Essien out. Then again Chelsea players are always injured until match day.

Of course, if both or only one can come out without losing too many points they are in a very strong position for the rest of the season. It will be exciting for sure.

This leads me to predict the games until the end of September (god I am lazy and bored again today):

Man Utd

A Portsmouth d
A Man City d
H Tottenham w
H Sunderland w
A Everton d
H Chelsea d
A Birmingham w
-----------------------
3 - 5 = 14 points

Chelsea

A Reading d
A Liverpool d
H Portsmouth w
A Aston Villa w
H Blackburn w
A Man Utd d
H Fulham w
----------------
5 - 3 = 18 points

Liverpool

H Chelsea d
A Sunderland w
H Derby w
A Portsmouth d
H Birmingham w
A Wigan w
--------------------
5 - 2 = 17 points

Arsenal

A Blackburn w
H Man City w
H Portsmouth w
A Tottenham d
H Derby w
A West Ham d
--------------------
5 - 2 = 17 points

A very close race, but Man Utd could already be 4 points behind Chelsea with the same number of games played and 3 behind Arsenal and Liverpool with one game more.

Maybe a bit optimistic on the Arsenal side of things, Blackburn away might turn out much more difficult than anyone would want.

I think that would be Arsenals best result at upton park in 4 years :lol
:lol

yeah I know. I had a bad feeling typing that d - but at some point we need to make a point again against West Ham. Not that we are doing well against you at home either.

Dont forget that chelsea have got terry out too, unless he's recovered already.

I can see us drawing to Chelsea and maybe everton and city, but I think we'll beat portsmouth. We usually havea tough time against them, but my gut feeling tells me that things will be ok against them. We cant afford to draw 5 times in our opening 8 games. To be honest, Chelsea is the only team that you could say we can draw to, but even thats not good because we need to win these games against the other title contenders.

I think this years title race will be closer than ever, but I dont think we'll see any of the top four get close to 90 points. The team that wins the league will probably end up with around 80 points. Even though the big teams got better this summer, I think there are a lot of other teams that have become better too. For instance, man city would have been a team that the big four expected to easily beat, but this year they're looking a lot better. newcastle have alwasy been a difficult team, but this year they look even tougher. There are a few others that could be difficult to beat such as portsmouth, blackburn and west ham. You could see the big four dropping points to one or two teams from the chasing pack.

Ghost said:

Have we even scored at Upton Park in four years? :lol

You know, Man U had better win against Pompey...dropped points in that game means they go into the City derby desperate for a win, and that match will not be easy for them.

BTW, the Sven/Fergie handshakes for that game should be amusing. :lol

So, Mourinho is not losing home matches since 2002, 99 matches in total. With next home match against Portsmouth (or is there something before?), he is likely to break 100 mark. :)

64 home matches with points in the Premier League in a row is amazing as well, Liverpool record 78-81 beaten at last. Go, Jose. :)

P.S. Where in hell is Sheva?

I definitely agree with that. It's definitely easier to drop points this year than it was in the past years or even last year. I think the direct games between the top 4 will play a big role this year, much bigger than last year.

£7m? That's insulting. You'd definitely have to go into double figures to get him.

I don't want either of those players particularly, if he was to go I'd just want the cash. We'd need to replace him and Flamini and Bendtner aren't going to do that. In fact the only Arsenal player I think we'd be interested in, who you might actually let go, is Hoyte as we could use another right back.

I don't think we'll accept any bid though, and I hope we don't. He's signed new contracts when there's been interest from Man Utd and Liverpool (and Spurs, but that's less tempting) before now, I think he's happy.

the price always also depends how desperate the player is to go. If he is happy at Blackburn the price will be high, if he wants to leave and is vocal about it it will knock a couple of million off. So if he seems happy, there's no way anyone is going to get him for 7 million

The story is bullshit anyway, Wenger would never let Bendtner go - unless he is after another striker, and even then it's very unlikely. Also, Blackburn have enough strikers as it is, there's no need to get Bendtner in.

It's not like any of us like Giants Stadium. We're so pissed that it's being delayed until 2009 but we have to make the best of it while we can. Not to mention that Red Bull Park looks to be the best stadium in the league once completed.

The only Spurz fans we have around here just participate in drive-by postings where they'll come by for a snappy remark or two, then disappear off the radar for a few months. We need a full-time Spurs punching bag here - any volunteers?

Hellos! I'm back darlings from my escapades. I'm now here to cause you a mixture of both love and misery.

It's great to be back! I've watched the footie, Liverpool are glorious, Arsenal are divers, Man Utd drew against Reading! This year is going to be a good one...

Thanks, it's good to be back.

I actually didn't watch the Arsenal match. But it's been a very good weekend for football, Villa really surprised me, I thought they played very well. Definitely a top 10 team this year. Babel also surprised me, he came on and made an impact. I'm looking forward to how he plays this season.

Reading got destroyed, it's unbelievable how they managed to escape that with a draw. Shame Rooney is out for 2 months (...lol). Reading weren't their usual selves, they played a lot better last season but alas it's just the first game of the season.

As well as watching football this week, I bought Setanta, nearly pooed my pants on Stealth (twice) at Thorpe Park and my girlfriend didn't nutmeg me again.... just kept on dribbling passed me in front of everyone :(

Damnit, I was telling everyone I know that watches football here in the states (read: 3) that Hleb was going to have a breakout season, I wanted to pick him for my fantasy team, and of course, I somehow forget to pick him up since there were so many players to consider.

What does Hleb do? Score in the first game.

I am starting to believe that this could be a real three to four horse race for the title. With Man. U drawing against Reading and losing Rooney for two-months, combined with Chelsea losing Terry and looking considerably shakey at the back, I think Liverpool and Arsenal could get a jump on them early on in the season.

Anything new on the Robben situation?

In other news, after watching the Man City/West Ham game on Saturday, I think West Ham could easily go down this season. They just looked so slow. No creativity.

Ferguson says Tevez will start against Portsmouth, it's no surprise.

And Rooney is out for 2 months. It's a rough estimate, could be less, could be more, but let's take it literally and he'll miss these games:

A Portsmouth

A Man City

H Germany (Eng)

H Tottenham

H Sunderland

H Israel (Eng)

H Russia (Eng)

A Everton

H Chelsea

A Birmingham

H Wigan

To be honest, I think England will miss him more than United. They have Tevez and are perfectly capable of playing one up front, and Saha and Solskjaer should be back in that time too. The Germany match doesn't matter, it would have been nice to have two fully fit teams but that's never, ever gonna happen with England it seems (and I know Germany will be missing Ballack at the least), but it's the qualifiers that are worrying.
