Yeah true QVT. Always in my eyes the two guys in front of the goalkeeper and the goalie himself are the heart of the team. That's why the first people I recruit in PES Master League are central defenders and a decent goalkeeper :lol

I still haven't seen the highlights(as I've been asleep, and don't really care that much about England) but you've got to assume that Cech or Hildebrand would have stopped at least one of the two goals. :lol

Central Defenders are nice it's nice to not have to stop every shot and get kicked in the guts constantly.

Let's discuss where we play football again. We did it ages ago, but there are lots of new members since.

I'm a striker. An annoying one, like Owen, who will look like he's completely out of the game most of the time...then come out of it with 2 goals. I'm actually a really good passer of the ball, but I'm no good in midfield because I can't tackle. And I can't cross, so that rules out the wing. I'm pretty good at taking free kicks on goal, I never take penalties anymore, I'm fast, I'm decent in the air and I always think I'm gonna score when I shoot (except penalties). I don't, but I always think it and I reckon that's the difference between strikers and others.

I actually prefer playing football to watching it, but it's so hard to nowadays. Everybody has jobs or they're off at uni, you can't just get people together like you could. People tell me to join a Sunday league team, but I would hate that, I don't want to train and I don't want to play when it's cold and wet. Just want to play for fun.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment, no one wants to play nowadays except my girlfriend. We won't go there.

I'm a playmaker, but I can also play on the right wing or even upfront if needed. I have a good eye for runs and player movements and my passing is decent.

Of course I'm about as quick as Ashley Cole is multiplying 2 by 1. Quite fat too I have to say.

Much like the two of you I don't feel like training, but I love playing. 5 a side is great fun too.

I'm a goalkeeper. I plan on joining a new league pretty soon as we don't have to stay in particulary great shape. I was going to be in a league right now, but the surgery fucked me up and made me quit.

I'm not too good because I'm reckless and tend to be out of position. I've got pretty good reflexes though, and I'm tall.

On more than one occasion I've punched one of you pissant strikers in the face, and on more than one occasion I've been kicked very roughly in the head/guts/chest/wherever.

I've always been the fastest goalkeeper in the league, and it is why I'm always so out of position. I use my speed to outrun guys to their own balls. Then they kick me and it hurts.

Right/Left Back or Midfielder.

A lot lately its been right back because our wingers have been turning up. :lol

Is there a Gaf premierleague.com fantasy football league? I'm just in the one from work.

Speaking of which, time to sub van Persie.

Striker or Central Mid. Screwed everything up by getting a knee injury. Couldn't really play for a year. My skill isn't what it used to be/could have been. (Example: despite dominating everything in a little 5 a side game I had with some friends today, I could make several goal assists, but I fucked up every shot at goal I had) I'm still pretty good, and if I got in shape I could probably do okay in the youth football scene around here.

I'm a right midfielder or right wing. Preferably a winger. I have good vision on the field, and people tell me I make some nice passes. I guess that's part of the reason I admire Fabregas so much.

I am a very aggressive, hard-nosed player, and get myself in trouble on the pitch sometimes, but only because I'm very competitive.

I've played my whole life since I was 5 all the way through high school until I took a break at college. Freshman year I probably should've went out for the varsity or club team but had absolutely no motivation after an asshole coach I had my junior and senior years in high school.

Started playing intramurals again last year, and this summer I played in a U-23 summer league that was pretty competitive. I actually had a chance to play alongside the Big East defender of the year from a few years ago.

I was playing intramurals at college again this year, until recently I dislocated my shoulder because of a challenge I made on a turf pitch that was very wet.

I love the game and wish I had had more dedication as a younger player.

Well this is pretty profound:

"I want to leave Chelsea," he has told France Football - which will publish the full interview on Friday.

"Nothing can stop me from leaving now. Something is broken with Chelsea.

"The damage in the dressing room is big because we know now what happened and who caused Mourinho's departure."

Drogba insisted that no matter who Chelsea might sign next summer - he did not want to play for The Blues beyond this season.

"I know that Ronaldinho and Kaka are linked to come next season but even that won't change my mind," he continued.

Rumours of Drogba's unrest have been circulating ever since Mourinho's departure and his latest outburst would only seem to confirm that he does not have a long-term future at the club.

Wow, that's gotta hurt. I'm not sure of France Football's reputation though. Anyone?

But, those quotes are pretty damn clear and straight-forward. I don't know how else you could interpret them..

Wenger is getting a bust at the Emirates.

It's unveiled here:
agm2007_8.jpg

by his wife, Annie!

I had no idea.

I play pretty much anywhere, right or left sided, but, I'm not really amazing at any position. lol My main problem is my fitness levels are pretty low, because I never really get to have consistent exercise now. I mean it's alright, but I start making silly defensive mistakes (assuming I've been playing out of defence as defending isn't so tiring imo) when the games getting on...

Oh and I lack somewhat in the "technical ability" department..... You will rarely see me pulling out fancy tricks to go past a player..... I'm more I'm more of the do the fundamentals well type. lol

I prefer playing in Central Midfield, but the fact that i'm very left footed and quite quick means i almost always play left midfield.

And lol at Drogba...how bout some loyalty to the fans eh?First bump and he's off. This is the kind of thing the EPl foriegner-bashers will harp on about mercenaries with no passion for the club.

Yep, maybe Theo will get a chance up front as well now.

I can't believe this, he was just getting into his best form after coming back form injury, that incidentally came at the time he got into his best form after coming back from his previous injury that happened when he got into his best form.

It's not fair, but what can you do.

You can probably push that back to after the Sevilla game.....

That's not the best games to get injured before. :-/

2 of the toughest games of the season, possibly 3 champions league games and the only good news is he wouldn't have played in that Carling Cup game anyway. lol

I really do expect Eduardo to really start putting away some goals soon, never a better time then now huh?

Right, I'll leave Van Persie out of the team this weekend and I'll swap him for someone as soon as the next transfer week opens.

On the Drogba thing...it's interesting because normally when a player doesn't want to play that badly, you reluctantly sell them as it's better to have the money for them than have someone who doesn't want to play for you. Chelsea don't need the money though, and they certainly do need Drogba currently, so I can only really see him going in exchange or part exchange for someone. Perhaps Barcelona would take him for Eto'o, or Ronaldinho. Perhaps Milan would take him for Kaka (and money)...I doubt it, but I can't really think of anyone else Chelsea would want that badly from Milan.

I've said it before, but I feel Chelsea should largely start again, like Bayern did this summer. They had a really great team ethic those first couple of years under Mourinho, now they've lost it and I don't know if this group of players can get it back.

I hate internationals. They need to be banned. Seriously.

maybe now v. Persie will say fuck internationals and try to stay fit for Arsenal...

wishful thinking.

Usmanov would mention length of contracts.

Spurs have also had some bad fortune with the international break, Robinson's picked up a calf strain and is out against Newcastle at the least.

...lucky bastards

Quality stuff from the Guardian this morning....

'JE NE REGRETTE RIEN'

Switzerland, the summer of 2008. Everywhere you look young ladies named Heidi are joyously yodel-lay-hey-ing, or furiously milking large cows, or eating Toblerone, or ploughing their tax-free pocket money into secret bank accounts. It may be the closest thing to paradise on earth ... until thousands of fat skinheads from Staffordshire start belching out a boozy rendition of If It Wasn't For The English You'd Be Krauts.

Thankfully for our Swiss and Austrian friends (not to mention tea-timely football emails hoping to avoid having to write 22 consecutive England Fivers next June) the chances of Second-Choice Steve leading England out of a qualifying group more powder-puff than the contents of Kate Moss's nose are now dependent on: a) victory over Croatia and b) Russia failing to beat either Israel or Andorra. To paraphrase electro-shock-haired boxing promoter Don King, they've got two chances: slim and none, and slim has just left town.

Curiously, rather than spend the day analysing where England have gone wrong in the past 14 months - those tepid draws against Macedonia and Israel and a strange attachment to sticking 10 men behind the ball to defend a 1-0 lead despite it failing against Brazil in Japan/Korea 2002, France and the Czech Republic in Euro 2004 and Holland last year, might be a good place to start - McClaren and the Football Association have been insisting that it's business as usual.

"Let's keep 'crisis' in perspective," brayed FA chairman Brian 'slug moustache' Barwick, who predictably gave his full backing toSecond-Choice today. "Steve's job is to make sure he gets his players ready for the Croatia game and the Austria friendly before it, and that's where we are." No Brian, his job is to qualify for Euro 2008 and then try to win it, nothing else.

Meanwhile Sven-Goran Eriksson has been strumming along to Richie Sambora and pleading with the FA to keep the faith - faith! - in McClaren. "Steve is my friend; I've known him for many years and I feel sorry for him," he deadpanned. "I think England played very well and I am as disappointed as anyone." McClaren, meanwhile, has claimed that "I wouldn't do anything differently" - which brings to mind Norman Lamont's comments following the Black Wednesday fiasco on September 16 1992. It took nine months for Lamont to be sacked; let's hope the FA doesn't take so long.

I'm not too worried about that schedule to be honest. Sure i'd have liked him fit, but with our current form, we can give anyone a game with or without RVP.And Eduardo has to transfer some of his Croatia goals over to Arsenal sooner or Later, so the Bolton game is a good warm up for the later games.

I really think the media's being too pessimistic about England's chance. Slim to none, and slim's just left town?
The Fiver's a daily gossip/rumor-mongering/funny bit - they always aim for hyperbole.

Out of curiosity - where would you set the odds for them making it at this point?

Well according the the Fink Tank, Russia have a 30% chance of a win in Israel. So 70% chance of not getting the result they need to fuck England over. Meanwhile, England's chance of getting a win against Croatia at Wembley is 56%.

For those who don't trust using stats, go check out the prediction thread where I've just added up where the Fink Tank is so far...for those who can't be bothered it's top...by a distance.

Taking into account that a Russia loss to Israel (42% chance), would leave England only needing at least a draw against Croatia (82% chance)...I genuinally think it's around 50/50.

Yeah...while igonring Owen (left Liverpool, obviously doesn't care about Newcastle), Lampard (left West Ham), Joe Cole (ditto), Rooney (left Everton, slagged his manager along the way), Gerrard (came within a whisker of leaving for Chelsea), Sol Campbell (Spurs to Arsenal? lolz), Ashley Cole (lolz), and all these other fine upstanding, loyal English citizens.

Drogba, in a round about way, is showing some loyalty to Mourinhio. And he doesn't want to say because he believes there's a rat in the room (John something, I thing...another standup English boy!). So er, yeah...domestic, foreign, they're all the same. Except the domestics cost far more while possessing far less talent.

Was Tranquillo Barnetta linked to Arsenal at any point? I'm reading a writeup on the US-Switzerland match, and they mentioned that he was. He looked decent yesterday.

Stupid van Persie. Oh well.

Eduardo and Walcott. DO IT! Fuck that bendtner pussy.

BTW, you guys really need to be watching premier league archive on FSC. The games I've seen so far have been excellent. It was amazing to see a Man U side today that I had no problems liking. No piece of shit C Ronaldo. No piece of shit Rooney. Just pure honest awesome footballers like Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane. Beating the shit out of Ipswich Town 9 nil with a 5 goal outing from Andy Cole :lol

of course it is, but Eduardo starting in the Premiership and Champions League means that there is a decent chance of Walcott starting up front alongside Bendtner in the Carling Cup.

There's gonna be chances for Bendtner coming off the bench and there's gonna be chances for Walcott on the wing too.

All in all those 3 will get more chances to prove themselves, which is about the only positive coming from this whole thing.

We'll know how long exactly he'll be out tomorrow, when the results of the scan are in btw

LttP but when I played as a kid I was a midfielder. If I'd kept up with it I imagine I would have been a DMF since that seemed like what I was being pigeonholed into by coaches. I have no idea what the hell I'd play at now (body type has since changed considerably), or even if I could (years of different sports competitively have taxed the ol' body).

I still remember my first team though... the Stingers. Yellow and black kits with a sash across the chest.

If I don't watch: victory. (I haven't watched a single game on the streak.)

If I do watch: coin flip.

Thank god beisbol playoffs are on tonight so I can take one for the team and skip a ridiculously important game.

Wo wo wo take it easy on the Rooney bashing he might make it down your way somewhere down the road ( in 20 years). :D

Heh. Is there any incentive for RBNY? Can this change your playoff matchup depending on the result?
None. We've cliched the playoffs and we've clinched third in the east. So the Galaxy can destroy us for all I care. I want us to lose actually just so the Chi vs. LA game will be that much more entertaining.
