Added a SNES classic: Rock 'n Roll Racing

--------------

Rock 'n Roll Racing

rocknrollracing-box-eu.jpg

• Developer: Mass Media
• Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
• Release: US & EU 2003
• Description:
Even though this console racer is many years old, its design is still a classic. Mass Media kept in everything about the Super NES and recreated it on the GBA, sans password save. The game looks, sounds and plays almost exactly like the racer did on the SNES, and in most cases that's what we like. The game is incredibly fun and challenging, but if only the GBA team went one step further and recorded the best times on each track… The game is pulled off extremely well in this design, with a really good balance of racing and weapon combat.

Juka and the Monophonic Menace

jukaandthemonophonicmenace-box-eu.jpg

• Developer: Orbital Media
• Publisher: SouthPeak Interactive
• Release: US& EU 2006
• Description:
It's been a long time coming for Juka and the Monophonic Menace, and the wait was worth it. Orbital Media has given everyone a really solid adventure game that uses some rather interesting techniques for battle. The game is geared towards a younger audience, so older players probably won't find it too challenging but then again, that never hurt a game like Pokemon, and it doesn't hurt Juka either. The game starts off kind of slow, but picks up fairly quickly. Same basic principle for most of the battles, but with added stipulations to keep the gameplay varied.

The last one for today: Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon

--------------

Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon

shiningforce-box.jpg
shiningforce-box-eu.jpg

• Developer: Amusement Vision
• Publisher: Atlus / SEGA
• Release: US & EU 2004
• Description:
The game is an updated version of Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention which is remembered fondly as being one of the first console games to fall into the now popular "turn based strategy" category. The core gameplay and story line are intact, but Atlus was kind enough to make some minor updates and additions. For some gamers, the novelty of playing an old favorite will be enough to give this game an instant 10. However, a lot has changed since the Shining Force series first appeared in the early 90s. Especially in the field of turn-based strategy. Features three cartridge saves, new card battle system, new art and updated graphics.

Woot!
The micro I ordered arrived today (Pretty effn fast considering it was free shipping:D).
Ill be in this thread a whole lot more!

i'll ask one last time, since maybe people didn't see it before:

does anyone know where i could get a good looking gba cart case that holds about 8 carts? doesn't have to be too designery, but not something that looks like it belongs in a kid's lunchbox either.

Argh! Stuck on what I believe is the last level on Max Payne. I just don't have the reactions to survive tot he last gun battle. Awesome game so far though.

In my annoyance at Mr Payne I ended up putting on Spyro Season of Flame and have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of time and enjoyment I've gotten out of it. It's almost like Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge. Never thought I'd say this but the whole platform collect stuff format is really bringing the OCD back and I'm loving it. :lol

I've bought quite a few great GBA games because of this awesome thread while I've been a-lurkin', awaiting account approval - now I can say thanks!
I just completed Aria of Sorrow and am now completely addicted to Kurukuru Kururin.

Thanks a lot! Man, how I loved Aria of Sorrow. I finished it a couple of years ago and it was amazing.

Great thread and great heads-up on Medal of Honor Infiltrator! Great little game!

I love MoH: Infiltrator too, and I think it's one of the most underated games for this system… :( Just look at those screenshots o_O

I picked up MOH for about 6$ on ebay. I've been playing it on my study breaks. So far each stage has been different. The first stage was typical run and gun, the second was a first person view from a cannon on a ship shooting enemies on shore, and now an MGS style sneaking stage! Definatley worth a try for fans of action games.

I don't get the Harmony of Dissonance dislike. I'm playing it now and having some fun with it. Of course it's really the second Castlevania I ever played. I have Dracula X Chronicles which I just couldn't get into. This one feels more fun than that.

HoD is really pretty sluggish compared to the other Metroidvania games, and is a bit of a poor man's SotN, but I loved it when I played through it. If you're enjoying it then you're sure to like Aria of Sorrow and the later entries, and possibly CotM as well.

where did you get this?

To those who played the Mega Man Zero games, is it necessary to play them in chronological order? I played MMZ back when it was released, and recently got MMZ4 on ebay. Will I be lost storywise?

Maybe a little. They attempt to explain the story, but it's still pretty convoluted. If you're playing it more for the gameplay you shouldn't have any problems, but you might want to read a faq or something if you want to be caught up on the story.

Don't know if I've ever posted here, great thread.

If ever it's necessary, maybe I'll add the few games which I find worthy. The GBA is fantastic, easily 200 very good games which absolutely deserve to be played up to this day.

This thread needs Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, which is my favourite game in the series. It's also one of the most relentlessly addictive games I've ever played @_@

Heads up.

hmmmm....

A couple of Guru Logic Champs on the bay now.

Thing is the seller is the one I used a few years ago.

Again as before item is advertised as - new

I would like to know where these games were sourced as they appear to be original either that or they are 100% perfect copies.

Seller must have had about ten available over time.

Price aint cheap.

I just bought Drill Dozer, and I'm not really feeling it. The gear overlay bugs me every time I want to drill something. Couldn't they have put a charge bar at the bottom of the screen or something?

You're completely right, I forgot Friends of Mineral Town, a game I played and loved a long ago.

Nice pickups, especially the red micro and the Fami SP. Always meant to track down that SP, I really like the flat white they used. I've got a pearl white one and it sort of irks me that the reflective look makes it so easily mistakable for the standard silver SP.

btw, here's a site that catalogues pretty much every GB release through the SP:
http://www.imgcab.com/gameboy/gameboy0.html
Might be handy if you're trying to catch 'em all.

Two new games I forgot: Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town.
They are mainly the same game with minor differences.

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town

harvestmoonfomt-box-eur.jpg
harvestmoonfomt-box.jpg

• Developer: Marvelous Interactive
• Publisher: Natsume
• Release: US & JP 2003 | EU 2004
• Description:
It's an economics simulator, sure, but it's such a well done design with so much to do. A deceptively engrossing game. One that will cause real days to disappear, and true chores to be neglected in favor of a lengthy farming session. It's brilliant in its simplicity, but yet as the days go on there are so many layers that peel away and reveal themselves. It won’t let you down with respect to gameplay hours, and you’ll soon find yourself addicted to waking up every morning then watering your crops and milking your cows. An immensely enjoyable game that will consume your day, if you're not careful.

Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town

harvestmoonmfomt-box.jpg

• Developer: Marvelous Interactive
• Publisher: Natsume
• Release: JP 2003 | US 2005 | EU Not Released
• Description:
Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town isn't as "more" as the title leads you to believe. It would have been better aptly titled "Friends of Mineral Town Again" because it is, essentially, a repeat of the original game with certain elements swapped around. Even so, it's still a great and highly recommended experience that will last you a very, very, long time on the GBA -- but only if you're new to the series on the handheld. Those already familiar with the original game don't need a replay.

Thanks :) About the flat white, in fact it's not that flat. It's got a slight pearl tone that I really like. Maybe you can see it in this photograph:

Congrats on your collection Arturo. But when you play, tell us, what do you use and why?

Thanks :) The ones I use to play are mainly two systems: A silver Game Boy Micro and a blue backlit GBA SP. In fact, the most used is the GBM, and I have the SP for when I have to recharge the GBM battery :D I love the GBA Micro and I think it's the best Game Boy Nintendo has ever released. I have big hands but using such a small device haven't been a problem. It's just a matter of getting used to it, and today I find it really comfortable. But the strong point of the Micro is the screen… o_O it's amazingly sharp and really really bright.

great thread. Guess I'd hook up my camera and take a couple of pics of my super dusty Zelda Limited Edition GBA SP

I love this one. I still haven't picked it because I haven't found a one with both the box and the console in almost perfect condition. Well, in fact I found one but the guy in eBay is selling it for more than 200 euros… o_O LOL!

Hm, yeah, I see... still, maybe it's a lower grade pearlescence or maybe it's just that it has the red to contrast directly alongside, but I've never seen a pic of it that made it as easy to confuse with the silver as the Pearl White SP is.

Yeah, would be, but it hasn't been updated in ages. I'm surprised it's still up, to be honest. All you need to do to see all the Micros is open your closet, though. :)

BTW: still waiting on your Polarium Advance write-up... :)

Seeing it live, I can tell you you can't confuse with the silver at all. Take a look in eBay, I found a couple at really low prices :)

Polarium Advance

polarium-advance-box-eur.jpg

• Developer: Mitchell Corporation
• Publisher: Nintendo
• Release: US & EU 2006
• Description:
Polarium Advance is designed to be played every day. Not just "for as long as it's fun"; every day. The idea is to stick it in your GBA cartridge slot and turn it on every so often. Every day is filled with dead time; Polarium Advance's goal is to fill it. It's the Times crossword. It's a Sudoku puzzle. It's picking at the flap of your shoe. It's concentration and deduction rather than instinct, persistence or digital agility. In addition to the new looks, new puzzles, and new controls, Polarium Advance offers three ways to play: Daily Polarium Mode, which offers a new puzzle set for every day of the year; Time Attack Mode; and Edit Mode for creating custom puzzles.

So thanks to Fire Emblem (Which I've had for a few weeks now), Rhythm Tengoku (Which I've had for about a week) and Drill Dozer (Which came today) my GB Micro is my most played console at the moment!

I'm absolutely loving these games though :) Tengoku I'm closing to 100%ing. It's a shame it was fairly short but I've really enjoyed the experience and look forward to more in the DS sequel.

I may try and track down Polarium Advance cheap, but it'd be a shame to use the dpad+buttons after the touch screen from the DS game!
