Official Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas topic

On the subject of widescreen mode, I may have exaggerated the hit the framerate takes. I just tried it again and I really didn't notice much difference as far as framerate goes. It may just be the difference between Los Santos and San Fiero but it didn't bother me as much as it used to.

Is there anyway to turn off the dialogue (just in cinemas?) and just have subtitles?

Not that I know of but why would you want to in the first place? The dialogue is one of the best parts.

goty? certainly not. good clean fun (clean? hahaha) though. whereas the game play was almost painfull in the last games, san andreas improves a bit and is now edging its way into adequacy ;)

GTA:SA is being advertised to hell and back. Watching MTV2 over a 3 hour span, I've seen two versions of the commercial about a dozen times.

HMV opens at 8am, but I'm in work. And even if I wanted to I couldn't buy this yet. Waiting to get the slimmer PS2 on Dec payday. This payday is going towards GTA:advance, Paper Mario 2, Minish Cap, Metroid Prime 2... and maybe an Xbox if I decide to have no life for the rest of the month!

Same here :( Anyone know if the territory wars come back?

Can anyone answer this? I would like to know this too. There was no warning or anything when it stopped, wish I had finished claiming all the territory when I started.

Buggy, that part was awesome, especially
with the girl in the back seat screaming the entire time!
CJ is ruthless!

I have to say that once you open up the other areas, the game gets way more impressive. Driving halfway across the map through the countryside and just seeing all the detail the game world has to offer is one of the coolest things I've experienced in a game in a long time. It's like everything you could do in Los Santos offered as much, if not more than the past two games, and then you get out of the city and realize you've only seen a third (if that) of what this game has to offer. Anyone who is frustrated or on the fence about the beginning of the game, it really does get better (as cliche as that sounds).

As someone who went in with fairly low expectations, I'm very impressed.

Just released here today. Is it better than Pikmin 2 ?
:lol That's like asking if Kill Bill is better than Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. They're not really for the same audience.

I know it's kinda stupid the question but I cannot afford the two...So I need to decide. I really enjoyed both 3/VC and like what I have seen from SA.
Bah, forget the question...the first I see the first I get. ;)

As a huge, huge fan of Pikmin 2, I'd have to say that I'm probably enjoying GTASA even more. The only thing with GTASA is that its fun is... spotty. Like, the game can drag at times and can also get frustrating (
those fucking courier missions. i make my way over to los santos, all the way from san fierro, only to have them "get away" as i finally reach them
), but it's all necessary to the overall experience, which is fantastic.

This game is the fucking shit. Takes me back. This is supposed to be a fictional city, but some of the areas are straight out of my childhood.

The only thing that gets me about the GTA series is the set of inane missions with the remote control vehicles. Make that a fun diversion from the missions, not an actual set of missions.
I'm stuck at the Red Baron mission, my patience has been tested

As for San Fierro, it's pretty faithful to some parts of San Francisco, so I have no problem fartin' around in that town...

yes, in that mission where you have to save the girl from the burning building. We got out safely and she said I could give her a ride home. Then BAM, she gets hit by a out of control fire truck. MISSION FAILED.
You think that's bad?

I finish that mission, avoid the killer fire trucks and wailing police cars, drive Denise home, and just as she gets out of the car, I hear a SQUISH.

She got run over by a car and died. During the f*ckin' CUT SCENE!

The game's now locked up - although the sun is still rising and setting. Can't reload, have to reset the PS2.

I'm still having a blast with the game, my favorite so far is the bike mission with the Terminator 2 homage. Welcome to the Jungle was playing instead of You Could Be Mine, but it was close enough.

But repeating missions because of the stupidest reasons is... well, I guess I got used to it with the previous two games. :P

Haha, the glory of real-time cut scenes.

What's weird is that in several scenes it's been brought to my attention that I (CJ) apparently own a car. Like, a definitive car, colour and all - consistent through a handful of cut-scenes. Even though I get a new one every three minutes.

Haha. One of my favorite missions so far is
the last racing mission just before going to San Fierro. I was surprised by the cameo of the "guy from GTA III" and how they maintain his muteness and never say his name, only that he and Catalina are going to Liberty City. If anyone's looked into the cast list in the instruction book, its nice to know there are a few other cameos from III/VC, as well. Of course, there's also the fact that you meet Catalina in GTA III anyway. The story continuity is neat. :)

I loved that mission where you have to shoot at the motorcycles and cars while your sitting behind that one fat dude (god my memory is bad at remember names) on the cycle. That was HELLA fun.

I just got to Venturas last night and discovered the greatest weapon ever...

A giant double ended purple dildo..And yes i'm serious you get to fight with it.

Anyone else notice peds act differently in the cities? LS people couldn't seem to care less about a dead body in the street, but SF peds rush to the sight of a corpse in amazement.

Man I must be out of practice in GTA games. >< I'm having tons of fun, but also very frustrated on some early missions.

1) You and Big Smoke chasing down those gang members on the top of the train while on the bike. BS can't shoot for shit and the bangers take like 100 bullets to go down

and

2) "Drive By" from Sweet. Car takes too much dmg and goes kaboom every time ><

Otherwise, having a great time. Need a way to make some money though ><

Just beat it. I got around 63%. BADASS ENDING!

WHOOO!!!!!!

Here's a small spoiler. It's about what shit goes down during the last few missions.
LOS SANTOS RIOTS!

What CJ says at the very end is just cool as all fuck.

How long did it take you? Do you just keep screwing around when the plot finishes with this one?

My game time is 43 hours and yes, you do keep screwing around after the story is done.

And I've JUST been playing story missions. Nothing else. No R3's or anything else. 40 hour story mode = ROCK!

wow. I have to say...this game is so overwhelming and engrossing...It's going to take a lot for another game to make this big of an impression on me even though it's essentially a fleshed out iteration of what came before. It's just so damn good.

You're from the hood? Did you used to eat salads at a pizza place too? :lol

I haven't found too many jumps as of yet. I haven't really been hunting for them but whenever I see something that looks like a jump I check it out. I've found a couple that seem like they will be very hard to get to.
Have the rest of you found many jumps in the first area?

Does anyone know where I can find one easily? I trashed the first one I got. My friend said they can be found just outside your hood but I haven't seen any.

Go to the north side of town where the Latino gangs hang out. You'll see the cars change over there. Jack one and go get it modded with hydraulics, etc.

Just curious, working on a Laptop here with the following specs, which would be the better game to go for, GTA III, or Vice City. I'd prefer a nice framerate, and some reviews of Vice City seem to imply its a less variable experience in that regards.

Any opinion?

P4 2.66Ghz
224Mb Ram
32Mb on board video card
200 Gb Hard Disk

Best one is across the street from where you meet the Mexican guy that is dating your sister. There is a Voodoo sitting there in one of the driveways. Handles like a dream. Note to all those that have had trouble with the low-riders races. Pick the Voodoo up!!!

I don't now about VC, but GTA3 should run pretty well on your system. My last PC wasn't up to par with those specs and GTA3 had no framerate or pop-up issues.

Can someone tell me where I can buy/find body armor? Missions would be a lot easier if I wasn't dying after like two shots

Just go to the Weapons store, they sell you armor (it's the places marked with a gun on the map). It generally costs around 200 dollars.

I am currently getting territory, what stops it?

There's also a freebie armor under the bridge that's exactly behind CJ's house(mother's house).

the game is still sooo flawed in sooo many key areas. much has been improved since the pretty terrible mechanics of gta3 and vice city, but its still not even passable in many areas. the entire single player game is broken. the missions are consistantly frustrating, stupid, and plain not fun. i dont enjoy trying to race to pick up crates with a forklift where interaction with the crates is shoddy at best. i still dont like having immense problems trying to target enemies while i'm gang banged from all sides. and on and on.

rockstar continues to have a great idea on their hands. the freedom, the environments, most of the ai interactions are awesome, its just that the only fun to be had with the title is in just fucking around....

seriously, how can anyone possibly consider this a 10, let alone GOTY material!? why do you gusy overlook how crappy/amaturish a lot of it is?

Just because you fucking suck at the game doesn't make it a bad game. Douche.
