Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

finally beat it in 55 hours, although i havent done any sidequests

the final boss did seem a little too easy, and the ending seemed abrupt and anticlimactic

still a great game, my first zelda and i look forward to playin OOT now

Uh, just beat the 7th? I guess dungeon. Master Sword + Sol = ridiculous.

I still think this blows OoT out of the water, and handily takes best adventure game ever award.

Uh, that was the 8th dungeon. Welcome to endgame.

Finished it, my savegame says 42 hours, that's excluding the last dungeon which took another 2 hours or so
lots of combat and low on puzzles, that's ok by me!
. I only spent a few hours hunting poes, bugs and heart pieces, the rest is all the main quest.

Best. Zelda. Ever.
Like someone said earlier, TP is to OoT as the original Zelda is to LttP. OoT is such a crude game.

Solid dungeons, plenty of combat, very nice mini-levels
(secret sewer passage )
, great enemies and bosses and FANTASTIC artwork. Bizarro brilliant cutsenes, charater and music. And Midna!
It was also A LOT harder than WW. I like this difficulty level.

The last 14 hours of gametime I was in one session (well, I did stop to eat, drink coffee and take a shower). Soo....I think I'm going to bed now :)

I read that thinking I must know what you are talking about, and afraid that I had missed something! I haven't beaten the 8th yet. :)

I agree that this is easily the best Zelda designed yet, a wonderful evolution, but SINCE it is an evolution then some things are taken away from the experience that OoT had. My being a kid then, too, which makes for a difficult comparison. There was a certain mystification that I had with OoT because it was my first experience like that, was amazing for its pioneering, and because I was young I just immersed myself and didn't ask any questions. Now, with TP, the formula is way too visible which dampens the immersion and removes me from its world. eg., Instead of taking (dungeon 4 spoiler)
the spinning thing that attaches to rails
for its place in Link's universe, I instead see it as its essence as a design choice. Still extremely cool, though.

Above everything, though, I'm constantly impressed, drawn to the game (despite a busy life right now), and have recaptured a lot of love for Nintendo. If only they put this amount of care into all their games.

I like the difficulty level, but it really should have been harder. There are particular times in which I struggle, but they are very rare. And the bosses are always way too simple.

Ok just got to snowpeak at about 37 hrs in (geez im taking a long time with this compared to others) and cant find the
zora i have to show the sketch of the monster to.

I have a feeling i have to find the
prince
but not sure where he is... wait... is he with that shaman?

I have discovered that there is nothing quite so awesome as making link cringe by having him tip back and eat his jar of fish bait. Thank you nintendo.:D

Yep, he's the one you're looking for. Never forget:
his mom's dead.

He likes to hang around his mom.

OK, I beat the game during Christmas. I tried to move slowly and did relatively many side quests (at least 3 hours of fishing, which is very cool) but being a Zelda veteran made it all quite easy: 35 h at the save before the final battle. I never got stuck, which I think is a first for me in a Zelda. Such an awesome experience - and I still need to find all the hearts.

More specifically,
it's where the bridge piece was
. I ended up running around everywhere when it's 5 feet from when you warp in. :P

Ohhhh, ok. At least I found that. I just never went back :) Thanks.

Aussie player here.
Just finished the game Christmas morning. Over 36 hours to complete.
I was working 12 hours shifts all month so I stuck to the main quest for most of the time because there was not enough time in the day to just dawdle around and explore the world. First time I've done this with a Zelda game and it was the first time that I was kinda disappointed at the end of the game.

I'm a Zelda fan and I've played every Zelda game and I ended up feeling like this game was too overhyped.

List of things that I thought were crap about this game:
- The game was too damn easy. The puzzles were too easy. The game was too linear. I read this thread for the first time today and I couldn't believe how all these people were getting stuck. I thought NeoGAF was for hardcore gamers. Haven't you guys ever played Zelda before? Like WTF, dudes? WTF? :(
- The graphics were shit. Even with component cables. (Yes! Aussie component cables! Love.) Well, half the time it looked terrible but the other half of the time it was beautiful. I mean, it looked like crap until the first time you enter the Twilight realm. But you get used to it.
- The controls feel tacked on. Unsheathing the sword was annoying.
- Treasure chests with rupees. WTF, Nintendo? WTF?
- What the hell was that stupid warp bird that you find in dungeons? Did anyone even use it? Worst item ever.
- Boss fights were too easy. The bosses looked damn cool but they were weaksauce. The last boss
fights were
too easy.
The last fight when you're fighting one-on-one with Ganondorf. WTF? He's left-handed so I just circled around his right side and hit him.
Strategy what? What the hell was that? Easiest final boss fight ever? What a piece of shit.

Howling
. You learn
a song
once and then that's it. It's completely useless anywhere else. Get the **** out of here, Nintendo.
- Not enough horse-riding.
- Not enough dungeons. There should have been at least 36 for the amount of hype that this game was getting. A lot of the time it was long but simple, which made it tedious. I'd rather do a few difficult tasks than lots of little simple tasks.
- I haven't explored too much yet, but it feels like there could be more villages, NPCs, sidequests, etc.
- Not enough of that special Zelda charm. I enjoyed a lot of the game and there were some great moments especially when I discovered new items and story events unfolding that make you go :o

It's like they took the Zelda formula and just followed it without including enough of that special Zelda feeling. I think it lacked the charm of the 2D Zeldas. Wind Waker had charm. I think the mature style of Twighlight Princess ruined it. There were moments and little touches that made me think, "Oh shit. That's is so Zelda. ^_^"

But most of the time it felt like I was playing a shell of a Zelda game. A shell that lacked love.

Seriously, dudes. Seriously... they should've just got Miyamoto to make the game. I mean. Make the whole game by himself. Should've put him in a room to work on the game by himself for a few months. The dude wouldn't have to design anything, he'd just be programming. Sitting there typing. That's how gangsta he is. He just has to sit there and types code to make a game. Dude is so gangsta that
he programs in binary. He just has a series of ones and zeros running through his head and he sits there programming straight to the disc
. No shit, that's what he and Yamauchi did back in the day when games were good and difficult. None of this weaksauce crap that you kids are playing nowadays. Shieeet.

Remember back in the day when you could bomb walls in Zelda. Except. The walls didn't have cracks that told you to bomb there? They're not really secret entrances if they have cracks. Shieeet.

Oh snap! Does anyone have a pic of when
you're in the Zora place as a wolf and Midna makes you look down into the ice at all the Zora's who were trying to swim up?
Pure hotness right there.

You'll be sad to know that Miyamoto played a much muc larger part in this game than the last two games.

And I disagree a ton with you.

Most people at GAF seem to complain that the Wii controls are somehow a step back from the controls on GC, but in my experience the Wii controls were so much better.

Waggling > button mashing imho.

This does make me a bit sad. Or something. I'm just saying... they should've just put him in a room and told him to make the game.

I just beat level 1-8 of that Rollgoal game, or whatever it's called.
Does anyone think that playing that Rollgoal game with a GameCube controller is cheating since it automatically goes back to the neutral position when you let go of the control stick, while us Wii players (real gamers) must manually do it? Hey? Hey?

- What the hell was that stupid warp bird that you find in dungeons? Did anyone even use it? Worst item ever.

Are you kidding? This was sooo helpful, nothing sucks more than running out of bombs and wasting half an hour leaving the dungeon, buying them, then going all the way back.

I soooooo hate fishing...

I've been trying to catch a red fish for almost 1 hour now... I'm even using a larva... no luck... and I can't move forward without it (to go to the 5th dungeon)...

I didn't like it in the village at the beginning (half hour with that one)... but I hate it now... ARGHHHH! I'm so frustrated... >__< ...

Edit: WOW! 1 minute after I posted this... I caught a damn reekfish!

I caught a red reekfish within the first 1-2 minutes of me trying to the first time.

I only had trouble fishing at the very beginning of the game. that took me an obscene amount of time. like over an hour.

Er...no.

Holy crap, the Cave of Ordeals gets hard.

How frickin big is it?
I didn't get past the fight with the
two flying dragon-type midbosses, and the one armored knight mid-boss
. How far was I? Any tips?

If I remember correctly, that's one of the
last five rooms
or something, so you're pretty close. There's
fifty rooms, and there's three poes in there on the 17th, 33th and the 44th floor. So if you remember when you fought the third poe you should be able to figure out what room you were in exactly.

You only had a couple more fights. There is 50 floors i think.

And yeah, I beat it without any life enhancements.(fairys, potions, ect) :P

Ouch, there was only one more floor left after that (
with3 Darknuts
), so you were very close. Advice... well make sure there's a blue potion in each one of your bottles, so you can feel more at ease. I beat that dungeon yesterday and actually used 2 potions. Sometimes I would chuck bombs down, that would kill some imps or little creatures in some of the floors. Having the biggest bomb bags and the largest quiver helps. I also had the
Magic armor
, which I used for a while in the very bitchy ice enemy floors.
You should be able to make it if you got that far, the question is whether you're going to, you have to replay all those floors :s

hotdamn, really?

Yea, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I didn't imagine a Zelda dungeon to actually have difficult combat :lol I just jumped in with only 1 fairy, no potions, and only 10 bombs and around 15 arrows. I was really hard pressed toward the end, I didn't know it was 50 floors.

Without the Magic Armor, I wouldnt have even gotten that far. What a bitch... I guess since I'm so close to beating it, I might as well give it one more go just so I can feel completed. Whats the end prize, worth it?

John Harker said:

Nah. You just get
fairies in all fountains, and the opportunity to buy fairy tears from the great fairy(heals you completely and gives you a short attack boost). I'll stop saying fairy now.
It's worthless since you can only finish the dungeon very close to completing the game, and the final dungeon and bosses are easy. I just completed it for the heck of it

Ok I'll give some props to that dungeon Anihawk.
The battle with Argorok (BIRDZ DOODZ) in the City in the Sky was a pretty cool fight. Better than fighting Zant which was a little disappointing. After all his badassery during the game he was basically used as a boss to regurgitate earlier boss fights. Time to finish the fight at Hyrule Castle

I will admit that Ocarina of Time is much harder than Twilight Princess.

not even getting into Master Quest.

when you die in a dungeon/temple in TP, you start over at the room you were in. in OoT you start over at the start of the dungeon.

enemies are much tougher in OoT. and the time-based puzzles/mazes make it harder still.

but i love Zelda TP much more because it gets most things RIGHT. the lack of difficulity is balanced by size and length. it's perfect for the casual and non-gamers. it wont make them frustraited the way OoT can.

Zelda TP is my favorite Zelda.

im sure we will get some Zelda that are difficult like Ocarina of Time or A Link To The Past.

Im guessing Zelda Wii will be shorter (30 hours) but much harder.

Can I watch TP cutscenes online somewhere? I need some clarification about the storyline...and mind you, I'm only up to the 3rd dungeon so I don't want spoilers. Thanks.

Wow, Papis comments are so off base its almost humorous. Maybe your taste just plain sucks? 'Shell' of a Zelda games? This is, without argument, the richest Zelda game Ive ever played, from almost every single aspect. Maybe the style of play just isnt for you anymore.

Your dungeon comment confirmed my suspicions that your post was nothing but a troll post though. 36 dungeons eh? Most of us live in the real-world, and have realistic expectations of the content a game can possibly contain. And this is without a doubt the longest and the largest Zelda ever.

Sucks that you couldnt let yourself enjoy the game though. With your off-base comments, look like you were looking hard to fault the game, with illogical arguments no less.

I also have a decent # of nitpicks about the game- but I realize for every one thing that I believe the game does wrong, it does 20 things right. The fact that you dont have a single word of praise about the game says alot.

Wow the Cave of Ordeals reward is shit.... fun beating it, though. Needed just one blue potion. I wish the rest of the game was that challenging.

Damn..these dungeons are a mind**** I swear to god. Sometimes i just can't solve a puzzle and I turn off my Wii in anger. The game is fun though, but i would hate to resort to mycheats.com since it would make me look like a noob.
