Official Metal Gear Solid 4 Gameplay Demonstration YES YES ALL OVER MY OCTOCAM

I was under the impression that MGS4 would take place in the Middle East, but these nude statues are mainly prevalent in Europe.

Any idea gaffers?

Having the game set in Europe and the Middle East would be great.

Yeah actually I don't think they are in the middle east, they just put them there for the demo. Part of the game is set in Europe, and they haven't shown that location.

I really don´t understand what is so incredible about mgs4... :lol

Plz don´t ban me, I´m not an xbot, just see my posting history. It´s just that I really don´t think the game looks so "OMFG MGS$ LOLZ BETTER THAN ANYTHING" bububu...

I know it´s a completely different game, but I think KZ2 is looking much much better and seem to have a great gameplay too...

Hmmm, I disagree...in terms of technical + art I find this about as impressive as KZ....it just comes together

Us fans of the series love that it has finally transitioned into next-gen. I'll cut my own head off if MGS4 gets lower ratings than KZ2.

I'm sorry but however you put it, Killzone 2 doesn't look like it has great gameplay as nice as the game looks. Sure if endlessly shooting things is your thing, but if you're looking for variety in gameplay other than shooting non-stop, I'd look elsewhere.

didnt really look that impressive. why all the splooge? AI and animations seemed sorta crappy. Maybe it was all the brown but the graphics did not impress me.

If they add that stuff, it'll slow down the gameplay. MGS seperates itself from other stealth games because it's FAST. It animates quickly, and what's great is that the animations are great but they aren't so "real" that it slows down the gameplay. The game in its current state looks quick and responsive, and none of that should change.

I disagree, like in my examples, in The Getaway and Gears of War, it's pretty fast too. It's just an extra animation and it would add to the gameplay as you can't shoot and pick up a gun at the same time. I think it should change. The game has evolved over the iterations, something like what I mentioned will add to the gameplay.

It's just that Kojima did a great job in so many areas (the sound fx are excellent...), and there are some realistic aspects (massive recoil from the sniper rifle), that these sorts of things stick out. Same with the barrel coming out of nowhere. I'm not saying they should change everything, just add some polish in the areas where they can...that's all.

I don't know about you, but when I watch the vid I'm completely immersed in the world Kojima has created. Almost as if I'm there. These little things like walking over weapons reeks of last gen and doesn't match the standard the rest of the game has set and adheres to. To me, anyways.

I can't get over how an awesome gif this is.

Snake rolls to the ground barely dodging the shots as bullet impacted debris flys overhead, quickly rolling on to this back, he faces his attackers, he proceeds to guns down the poor bastard from a distance right off the rooftop of the building.

Badass.

Can you give us an example of a game with more impressive visuals for comparison's sake?

It's like Uncanny Valley, but not with characters. I can see where you're coming from.

The game was delayed for a good reason, I guess.

Nice! This is the first time since MGS1 that I've been well and truly hyped up for a Kojima game. A lot of this has to do with the adoption of more usable camera setups. When I get a PS3 next year or sometime after, this is definitely one of the first games I get with it.

Eva looks good for her age.

I know a lot of people are questioning her youthful appearance, but genetics vary between humans. Not everyone will age the same.

Besides, I've met 60 - 70 year olds that look pretty youthful.

Remember that thread about what it would take for current-gen one console owners to get another console? I currently own just a 360, and I think I've found my answer...

Thanks to Snoopers/Blim for the awesome MP4. Just downloaded straight from the PS3 browser in less than 30mins. AWESOME!

i think MGS4 looks significantly better than KZ2 but i am more of a "Whole package" type of person.

on the whole location issue- didn't one of the early trailers mention multiple battlefields throughout the world? (not a gameplay comment but rather a story comment) I can see them trying to put together numerous battlefronts this a spiderweb of a story seeing Snake all over the globe.

Btw I noticed the floating ring around Snake, in the gametrailers HD footage, has N on it, indicating where North is. But what the ring itself is I'm not sure, it seems to always be of the same size.

And I have to say this again: the biomechanical birds are awesome!

Imagine dodging around a ruined Paris or Rome. That would be awesome.

I can figure there are more impressive games, but it still doesn't mean it doesn't look great. That's simply a all compassing downplaying of a game without being that direct.

I sure as hell ain't as exited for a game as this even if it looked better that's for sure.

Someone should make a montage video containing the PS3 graphics elite:

LittleBigPlanet
GT5 Prologue
Uncharted
Final Fantasy XIII
Ratchet & Clank Future
Heavenly Sword
White Knight Story
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4

I didn't play The Getaway, but Gears is a much slower paced game so you can't really compare them.

There's merit to what you are saying but ultimately the decision to cut "realism" versus "fantasy fun" lines is completely and utterly subjective.

MGS with clones and giant robots is not even asking you to take it overly seriously with the technology aspects... They ask you to just to enjoy the ride.

Besides... In fact, those bald space marines show super human endurance. Shouldn't they have to sleep and poop for ultimate realism too?

/and personally I think MGS4 LOOKS better than all those games visually.

I think one of the locations is either Rome or Athen (judging based on a few hints Ryan gave about their destination before going to Europe). Could be mistaken.

every single one of those.

Honestly AI seemed fairly crap.

But since MGS is fantasy stealth/interactive b movie genre it really depends on what you like.

Finally finished dling, it looks amazing. I'm loving the UI/HUD and that over the shoulder view. Its everything and more than I expected from a next gen MGS game (and that's not to say I had low expectations).

And they put a P90 in the game, which just so happens to be one of my favorite firearms. For that, Kojima gets my love.

Note that the ring contours to the environment surrounding Snake. I'm guessing that the ring designates the surrounding texture that the OCTOCAM will reflect when prompted to do so.

Oh, yes! I thought those were so cool. They kind of reminded me of the planes used in Ghost in The Shell 2: Innocence.

I don't want the game to compromise its quick feel just so it can look next gen. Kojima struck a perfect balance in this trailer. For example, the running animations are great, but they aren't so realistic that it takes forever for Snake to change direction. I want to be able to just flick my stick and have him point the other way.

The problem with games like Splinter cell is it feels like it takes forever to complete an action, from opening a door to picking up a can. As a result, you're more worried about someone seeing you while you're picking up a can. Sure, that's realistic, but it's not FUN.

I want to spend more time quickly moving from cover to cover and hiding rather than picking up objects.

This is why I think MGS has always struck a happy balance in the realism vs. fun department.

The AI is not a problem. This has been quoted many a time before. When any MGS game AI is cranked up the gameplay changes radically.

The demo would not have been fun to watch 20 soldiers relentlessly hunting snake for 10 minutes because the guy "screwed up".

The AI is there. Set MGS2 on "Hard mode" and play it again. You'll see.

It's just me or things in the environment actually cast shadows on the dust and smoke blown up by the explosions??? :O :O :O

Crazy attention to details...

*bow to Kojima Sama*

Inded, also just finished and watched it. I'm a complete MGS fanboy so today felt like christmas. :D
The game looks unbelievably great. Kojima's vision is really coming together now. The Octocam is awesome, the different cameras to please everyone seem to work great, the setting seems real. Damn it i will have to get a PS3 before the end of the year now. :lol
