Official Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Review Megathread

I can see Galaxy, Prime, or maybe even Halo 3 getting in the 9.8-10 range. Galaxy could potentially get a 10.

I meant Brawl. If the game has online play and surprise us with some Sonic, Megaman, Cloud/Sephiroth love then yes....10 out of mother-****in 10. Maybe I'm just a fanboy.

aside from the new controls (Metroid seems to be first console-fps with good controls which is cooool!), it's basically the same game for the third time. that's the same situation we had with twilight princess. both got a 9.5 by IGN and i think that's a fairly high score!

i think mario galaxy will get a higher score because it's fresh.

It's the third part of a trilogy, how fucking different do you want it to be?

9.5 Gameplay
Spectacular. Controls better than any console first-person game before it, features great pacing and a fun mix of puzzles and shooting. Contrastly, there's a tedious fetch quest and some door loads.

I think had it not had an entirely new, revolutionary control scheme, it would have scored much, much lower.

About the video review, be warned. It's "spoiler-filled", according to the first page of the review.

Right when they said that in the video review I quickly hit the close button. :lol Why have tons of spoilers in a review though? Do people buy games and complete them, then look at reviews?

The actual speaking part of the video review doesn't have much spoilers, but it's a 10 min video and they have to show something.

for non-beleivers?

A well made game will be a well made game. Doesn't matter what platform it's on.

although just imagine how fucking cool it would be with Killzone 2 grade graphics.

That would be amazing, but I guess we'll have to wait. Or, will there even be another metroid game!?

Apparently this is ending the 'Prime' saga, so what are they going to do next with the series?

What is retro working on next?

I watched the video review and didn't think it really had any spoilers, to be honest, unless of course you don't want to be spoiled by seeing certain locations.

I'm more interested in whether Retro make a 1st person or 3rd person game than anything else. I get the feeling Nintendo may want to keep them in 1st.

Let Retro work on the next zelda....IN FIRST PERSON.

There, I said it...and am 100% serious. Do it.

I just hope they don't waste them by forcing them to make an Icarus game...

Oh IGN.

The XBox side have always been happier handing out higher reviews.

No, no no no no!

It's annoying enough that I can't play Metroid Prime, I don't want that to be extended to one of my more preferred series.

Nintendo needs to give Retro a blank check and full creative freedom to do whatever they want for their next game. They've earned it.

Shamelessly ripped from the official thread to prevent both derailing and the headache some mods will find themselves with if GAF keeps it up. Maybe let's put all the reviews we like to talk about in here?

Lock if not. Just trying to keep the peace : /

1UP - 9.0

On the whole, Corruption takes advantage of the Wii's biggest strength (with its unique controls), and minimizes its greatest weakness (through astounding art direction), while otherwise maintaining or improving upon the high standards and overall polish the series is known for. No predictions for six years down the road this time, just one for this fall: load a fresh pair of batteries into the controller, dust off the Wii, and surrender a week of your life to Corruption -- you won't be sorry.
IGN - 9.5

I call it the best game on Nintendo's console. It is clear from the moment you pick up the controller that Prime 3 was developed exclusively for Wii. Not only do the new controls respond quicker and with more precision than any dual-analog-helmed FPS ever created, but the gesture system works brilliantly, too. Meanwhile, the title delivers everything a Metroid fan could hope for, including spectacular environmental puzzles, epic boss fights and intense combat, all wrapped up in a package that spans multiple worlds and is filled with re-traversal exploration.

Nintendo's current TV ad for Metroid Prime 3 is part of its "Wii Would Like to Play" campaign, intended to demonstrate how the system is accessible even to those not well-versed in playing video games.

Do not be fooled.

Except in the most basic sense that an intuitive pointer is used to aim your weapon, Prime 3 is not a particularly accessible game. It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

Gametrailers - 9.6

So did you miss the "not an average" below the score or did you purposely ignore it?
I'm guessing personally that he ignored it.

Done by two different people, and seemingly just the way they felt about said games.

IIRC some dudes at Retro said at E306 that they're working on another Wii game alongside Corruption. Think it might be mentioned in this interview....

I dunno. After MP2's lukewarm reception, we'll have to see how MP3 does.

personally speaking i'm fine with it because i haven't played a Metroid game in years and the first thing i wanted to be improved are in fact the controls. still, when watching just the videos it's hard for me to tell whether it's MP1, MP2 or MP3 video, which does not necessarily mean that this is a bad thing but i'm not expecting a 9.9 score from a game that ist hardly distinguishable from its predecessors.

of course. if a game on x360 has Wii graphics it will also get a low score. wii is about controls and especially console-FPS-controls traditionally suck so of course one expects from a wii FPS to offer more controls-wise (and it's a shame there aren't more Wii fps that live up to the expectations)

^ You can buy another one for $250!

BTW, love the Shacknews review. Awesome stuff and it made me super pumped without going into a long ass review.

Yeah who cares if it controls better than anything ever? F**k off I'm not waiting for a couple of doors to load.

I guess it was more the fetch quest, but the door must of been annoying to even get a mention.

Shit. I was kind of hoping this got around 8's so I could feel alright putting off buying it for a little bit. Looks like I'm spending another $50 this week. Shit.

The doors isn't a huge deal until they say you can be under attack while waiting for them to open. That's a big problem and better not happen too often.
