Nope. Second effort, before the whistle was blown. He Hadoken'd the ball across the line. Whoever it was for the Chargers (#86 I think?) deserves most of the credit for the TD, for coming in and pushing LT at the end of the dive and keeping the push alive.
:lol I LOL'ed.

#86 is Manumaleuna.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the 4th quarter LT touchdown.

His forward progress was stopped guys. It was stopped :(

On the replay, it looked like the ball *maaay* have crossed initially.

At any rate, the forward progress rule isn't "you stop a guy and he's down." It's there for at least a couple of reasons:

1) To allow an offensive player credit for forward progress gained if he's stood up and pushed back 12 yards.
2) To protect the offensive player.

It also tends to apply to plays where a defender has the offensive player wrapped up and controlled... Otherwise, you wouldn't have plays where a ball carrier is pushed back a few yards and then breaks free for yardage.

It would've been the wrong call to overturn it.

Why are the Paul Spicer comments about the Patriots getting so much play on ESPN? And the big news that "he won't back down from his comments".

Talk about trying and making up bulletin board material.

I don't believe they need bulletin board material to dispatch the Jags.

Cool. Good to see Haynesworth getting some recognition there.
Too bad stompy can't last 4 quarters. He should work on that in the off season, but I agree that he made a huge impact on his team.

Well, since I don't think we're starting a new thread for the remainder of the playoffs, time for some picks:

Seattle @ Green Bay
Jacksonville @ New England (UPSET OF ALL-TIME)
New York @ Dallas
San Diego @ Indianapolis

Eh, defensive tackles can almost never last more than 3 quarters. Especially with a putrid offense that puts you back on the field too much.

Of course I realize that, but it's really drastic how he changes after the half, though. Either they're not spelling him enough or the rest at the half is making him feel the crunch. I remember in HS, the big guys would stay active a bit so the downward slope didn't catch up with them.

PS: Sapp's old, now retired, ass can do it!

Maybe he needs this at half time!

yeah, I think it's time for some more picks.
Seattle @ Green Bay - I get the feeling Seattle will be talked up as the sleeper surprise from the NFC, and then Green Bay will dominate them. basically, another case of the ESPN hype jinx.
Jacksonville @ New England - the master plan: the jags will keep the game close, the pats will be trying to put the game away late in the 4th with a lead and the ball... and they injure Brady but lose in the process. or they hurt some of their offensive line.
New York @ Dallas - I really want to pick the Giants. I mean, really want to pick them, but I get this feeling Dallas will squeak by on a win that can only be called lucky.
San Diego @ Indianapolis - Probably going to be the better matchup, IMO, though I expect Bob Sanders to kill at least 3 Chargers by halftime.

No, no one will start talking "sleeper pick" on Seattle. They are already saying Green Bay wins, just like you guys.

, but be careful what you wish for, the Giants would have beaten JGar after losing two to him in the playoffs, then the Cowboys after losing two to them this year already, the Seahawks also won the previous two meetings with the Giants. It would be the ultimate revenge tour and I would be there every step of the way force feeding everyone crow.

come on dude. it's the playoffs. you have to be a homer about it. saying your team can't beat the other team is a cop out.

Giants win: "WOOOOH GO GIANTS"

Giants lose: "meh. not a surprise"

Have you not listened to ESPN yesterday? According to the guys on sportscenter, Giants are the most likely upset. But hey, they (and almost everyone else) was right about jax/pitt.

i don't think it would be the "upset of all-time" the jags are a good team this will be a fair match up. The thing about this though is I think the steelers out played them last game, it was just a few key mistakes (3 INT) that killed them, other than that they outplayed em.

I'd like to see the Giants beat the Cowboys, and then get totally crushed by Green Bay in the NFC Championship. But I think the Cowboys'll win (and hopefully get totally crushed by Green Bay in the NFC Championship).

My picks: all home teams win except one - Giants play a horrible game but somehow miraculously come up with the win.

Seattle @ GB 21 - 13

I would be absolutely stunned if the Seahawks could hold the Packers offense to 13 points. At this point it doesn't look like the weather will help, right now the forecast is a balmy 25 degrees.

The Seahawks will need to put a bunch of points on the board and get +3/4 turnovers (easily possible) to win the game.

The Packers are averaging almost 28 ppg, and at home in the playoffs in nice weather? I don't see them scoring fewer than 28.

Seattle @ Green Bay

Jacksonville @ New England Not going to even be close. Jaguars have proven that they cannot play an entire game with their last two matchups versus the Steelers, something that is a must when playing the Patriots. David Garrard is not capable of running a one-dimensional offense because the Patriots will shut down the running game.

New York @ Dallas Tony Romo's vacationing instead of practicing will come back to bite him in the ass. He had no business taking any time off after the shitastic game he had versus Seattle.

San Diego @ Indianapolis

All you people stop picking the Giants your jinxing us!!!!! anyways

Seattle @ Green Bay
Jacksonville @ New England
New York @ Dallas
San Diego @ Indianapolis

Here's a tip, stop watching Sports Center. They can't pick for shit.:D Although I guess the Giants technically are the most likely to pull an upset since the Cowboys are only favored by 7 1/2--the lowest line of any game this weekend.

You know full well I am the absolute most rabid Giants fan on here, and I am the absolute most rabid Giants fan I have ever met. I would love nothing more than to say that the Giants will stomp the 'Boys, but there are some mitigating factors:

1) Will TO play, and play well?
2) Terry Glenn is back
3) Sam Madison hurt and may not be back
4) Shaun O'Hara hurt and may not be back
5) Tank Johnson will be more of a factor than he was last time we played
6) No Shockey to own Roy Williams again and again

I think the Giants keep it close but lose by less than a TD. The Cowboys just have too much talent on both sides of the ball.

Which brings me to my next question, how can the Cowboys afford all that much talent? There are a lot of players that should be getting payed a fuckton on that team.

BTW, all ESPN pundits, and all Fox guys picked the Bucs to squash the Giants.

I honestly don't know who will be more effective. Tom Brady versus Jacksonville's secondary or Freddy T and Mojo against the Pats suspect run defense. It'll be a better game than people think.

Jacksonville vs New England

New York vs Dallas(subject to change if TO doesn't play

Seattle vs Green Bay

San Diego vs Indianapolis

And people wonder why Pats fans are thought to be annoying.

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008...thinks-pats-shouldve-been-banned-from-t/#cont

Except for that Dapper "Al H" commenter, just a bunch of noise.:lol

7. Here we go another big mouth fool who can't win on the field. I guess the Patriots will have to shut up another big mouth. This is getting to be real funny all these losers trying to figure out how to beat the best football team of all time. And for all the fools who cry cheaters,go back to the corner and cry some more.Waaaaaaaa!

Ben more or less shredded you guys in the 2nd half when spreading you out. If it's not windy don't be suprised to see no huddle the majority of the game. That's what Brady does best and that will slow down and tire out your big line. If you guys can cause some turnovers and control the clock you have a shot or a big special teams play. BTW NE has given up less rushing yard then Jax this year and less rushing TD's.

jax is gonna get torn up by NE, again.

the most intriguing matchup for me is GB/SEA. if seattle wins this one, i feel they may have what it takes to make the superbowl.

Exactly.

Since your team is basically a carbon copy of the Steelers, New England will play you the exact same way. Spread offense and shutting down the run on defense, making Garrard beat them. I'm not so sure that Garrard can win a game without the help of a running game, the Steelers proved that on Saturday.

I think by wednesday it'll be "are we overlooking the seahawks?" and by friday they'll start sportscenter promos during ATH/PTI off with "the reasons why the seahawks will upset the packers."

Seattle @ Green Bay
Jacksonville @ New England (I hope the weather is awful, and the game stays close. Jacksonville has a chance if they play physical and stay agressive for 60 minutes.)
New York @ Dallas
San Diego @ Indianapolis

If Dallas beats NY, I'm fairly confident they're winning it all in the NFC.

Favre still hasn't won in Dallas. Although getting Woodson back for the Pack would be a big boost.

:lol i love all the steelers fans' bitter tears towards the jaguars

It's not being bitter. Being a Steeler fan simply gives you a different perspective on the game, like I previously said, the Jaguars are basically a carbon copy of the Steelers. They share many of the same strengths and weaknesses which is why I am predicting the game in the Patriots favor by a fair margin.

- The Jaguars are weak against a spread offense and this was quite evident during the 4th quarter of their playoff game with the Steelers. The Patriots have a more experienced quarterback and a more talented receiving core then the Steelers.

- Garrard is inexperienced as was Roethlisberger. The Jaguars most prized possession is their running game, something that the Patriots will go out of their way to stop. Their offense will be one-dimensional and Garrard has yet to prove he can excel under such circumstances.

- The Patriots are completely healthy. The Steelers were injured in many key positions and mistakes on the Steeler's part had to occur for the Jaguars to come through with the win. The Patriots don't make many mistakes, so the Jaguars are going to have to actually beat them without the help of turn overs and special teams.

Basically, the Patriots are going to go into the game with the same game plan the Steelers had in the 4th quarter of the wildcard playoff game.

See, i don't understand that argument from the commenter. The Patriots actually are cheaters, so it's not crying, it's stating fact.

Come on, Tom, you're smarter than that. An intelligent guy like you realized they have good stats against the run because of their offense (jumping out to big leads isn't conducive to running, ya know). In the games that have been close they've given up 90 (Giants...who had to abandon the run early in the 3rd ), 90 (Jets), 166 (Ravens), 55 (Eagles...who were content letting Feeley throw for 350) and 119 (Colts). The opposite is true of the Jaguars, who played a lot more close games (thus making a rushing attack a viable option for opponents).

It's telling that the Patriots have the fifth highest yards per carry against yet have the fewest rushing attempts against. In other words, the best Pats run defense is its offense.

When teams attempted to do what the Jags will, namely play ball control like the Colts and Ravens, the Patriots run defense got torched.

After Saturday I am no longer confident the Jaguars will win, but they have a good shot if they can pound it.

Woodson AND KGB. That combination of better down field coverage and a speed rusher should help the Packers get some pressure on Romo (assuming they meet, of course).

Here's the things that would make next weekend grand

1. Patriots defeated and/or Brady maimed.
2. Classic TO meltdown of epic proportions as the Boys get booted
3. The Walrus looking like he's going nuclear at an official as he blunders another 2 minute drive.
4. Rivers and LT coming to blows on the sideline and of course...
5. Manning Face!!!

I agree that it will be a close, hard fought game.

And the cowboys will have to let some guys go, or do what the patriots do, and start paying guys under the table.

The one thing that gives me confidence about our D on Sunday is Steve Spagnuolo. The first two games we did not fair well at all on D. The first game, the D was just brand new and got abused, for game 2, our pressure was ineffective against that mammoth OL for the Boys. I am hopeful that our boy will come up with something. Absolutely the best coach signing of the off-season on any team:

Week 16 shows it's possible, and week 6 is also interesting.

Don't want to make excuses, but Week 16 was awful, awful weather so that isn't even an issue.

We should have won Week 6, I give you that. However, that was before we had Ryan Grant starting.

I will cheer for Ryan Grant, that was my boy before the trade. :( I can't believe our depth chart was five deep at RB and that Bradshaw turned out so good.

That said, this weekends games are going to be fucking sick.
