Official Prince of Persia Thread

I think some folks are just over-analyzing this. It seems to me that if you die, the game seamlessly (sans menus or waiting) takes you back to the last invisi-checkpoint... most likely before the platform crumbled and you fell to your doom.

I understand that. It just doesn't feel right to me.

I know what the point is and logically it makes sense. Catching is the same consequence of death, just without a screen. But it takes away the danger of it at the same time. There's a lot of times where I'm so immersed in the game that I view the danger of death as more than an inconvenience, we all have.

To use a Mario example again, think about the sections of Galaxy where you're tip-toeing over an open planetoid with a black hole in the middle. If falling in to the Black Hole only put you back at the last Planetoid before you got here, are you going to be that careful about it? Would there be a tenseness to it beyond just wanting to avoid the frustration of doing it again?

Which I personally think is very useful because if there's one thing I hate is having to go through some shitty screen and the short load to get back and try again! So in the review it was stated that there is only one difficulty?

EDIT: Just pre-ordered from Amazon, Playsation3 with one-day shipping. They had a $10 off next purchase of game deal, had to jump on that. LE, etc.. How is Amazon with their release date shipping? Will I get it before it's out in stores (Which is the 4th right, in NA?)

You have to hit the jumps and beat the enemies. The game just cleverly disguises checkpoints and doesn't bother asking "would you like to continue?". It's by no means a bad thing, although it creates the illusion of no challenge, even though technically you're getting the same level of challenge but without the tedious middleman.

Mirror's Edge is really generous with its checkpoints but it still requires you to nail a series of jumps in-between checkpoints. The series are shorter than usual, but they're still series. The problem I have with Prince of Persia is that you don't seem to ever need to make more than one jump in a row. If you miss one, you start exactly where you screwed up. If that is the way it plays, I wouldn't even call it a checkpoint system because the world checkpoint implies that there's some distance between the points, but that's arguing semantics.

Either way the eye candy will probably get me to buy it since I don't have a backlog.

are you sure thats how it is, I'm sure its not 1 jump then checkpoint then the second jump.

Do we really know how generous the checkpoint system is for certain or are we all just speculating based on Hilary's bullshit review?

It's unclear as of yet... I think.

"Checkpoints" happen on every stable platform. Basically Elika will bring you back to the last point on solid ground. So it can be quite a lot of jumps, but no *that* much either.
Got the review build yesterday, and so far I find the experience very enjoyable. I love getting the light seeds, it reminds me (but with a widely different gameplay) of Crackdown.

interesting. I can't wait for this to come out.

By the way, do you guys suggest I go out and find/check out the original trilogy, just for gameplay alone? I know it has nothing to do with the new one, but still. I wish Ubisoft would release them as a holiday box set or something, but its too late now. Why Europe? Why not good ol usa? :(

There are long strings of acrobatic maneuvers you have to pull off in the game with no solid ground along the whole way. You fall and Elika takes you back to the begging where the stable ground is and you have to try the long string over again.

What version of the game was your review build sent out as? And have you noticed any difference in frame rate between the 360 and ps3 versions. I know people hate console versus questions but I'd just like to know which version to preorder. Thanks.

Just saw the TV spot during the Heat/Suns game, much like AC I think the graphics and the style of the trailer are really going to push some units.

PS3 logo only at the end btw.

Sands of Time skins are sexy
This.

But I don't know about anyone else but I will DEFINITELY run through this game as Altair more than once. Skin looks so good cell-shaded!

CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS

The thing that I'm afraid of is if the different skins are available as DLC for a price then I probably WILL buy them. And thus be a part of a problem that I seem in video gaming micro-robbery.

But what concerns me more is, if people are this excited over the skins to begin with (as seems to be the case judging by all these responses to them) then what does that say about the new default character model......

I much prefer it. So it says... nothing, I suppose. Except that gamers love nostalgic throwbacks (shock, surprise!).

Seconded. I like the default much more than any of the skins that have been shown.

Yeah the new character model is great. I prefer it to the older models.

I like the new model a shitload, the art is fantastic. The sands of time model seems a bit more suited and fitting in the environment imo, though the new model is not unfitting. It just doesnt seem very prince-like. I feel the quality is the same as far as art goes however, and id love to be able to switch on the fly if possible, depending on the scenery.

Both are great, just goes to show that options are almost always a welcome addition, as it satisfies both sides.

I only got the 360 version. So far after 2 hours the only slowdowns/noticeable tearing I've seen was during cutscenes. Gameplay was very smooth.

Altair comes when you link your PSN/Xbox Live account with your Ubi.com's account. :)

How do you do this? I couldn't find a way to link my accounts anywhere at Ubi.com. Do we have to wait until the game is released?

I just created an account at Ubisoft.com and I don't see any option to link my Gamertag or PSN ID.

2 question:

1) Is EB Canada giving the free upgrade to LE?

2) Does this game have trophies?

edit: I think it does have trophies. Hmmmm. PS3 or PC version...PS3 version comes out a week earlier. PS3 it is.
Yes and yes as far as I know... :)

How does this work? Do i get the Regular box, or the collectors box?

Determined by the publisher. Since it's Ubi, I'm guessing not. :(

Damn, I really wanted the "superior" version of the game (that GamingHeaven.net review said it looks slightly better and runs smoother on 360)... I wish people would shed more light on that.

Anybody know if Dec. 2 is the actual release date or if it's just the ship date for the US?
Ship date is usual for most Ubisoft games, I think?

Amazon's not offering release day shipping, anyway. Bogus.

So judging by the amounts of posts itt, and the fact this game is out next week, I take it not alot of gaffers are picking this up? :(

My guess is a lot of people are a bit sketchy on it because of its difficulty and the fact that it's Ubisoft making it.

I don't care though, I think the game looks fucking incredible and I've been dying to play it since they first showed some stuff off on it.

Game looks great and the concept is there, i just wish the difficulty was there as well. I think they need to add a new mode somewhere as DLC that makes it like a time trail to get the orbs or makes it more difficult to run through the world. I know what they were trying to do, its more of an experience than dying all over the place, but still.

i just don't have much to say beyond what i've said in previous threads. i gawk at screenshots, love prince of persia, think the art style and new game direction is extremely brave and commendable, etc. etc.

i really think it makes many other games released this generation look ridiculously unimaginative and awful by comparison, and i think as a complete experience when compared with what ubi montreal accomplished with assassin's creed it will be a clear winner.

I'm so tempted to just jump in and preorder the 360 version on Amazon so I get the free LE upgrade... ughh, must wait for more reviews/videos... ughh. :lol

I knew almost nothing about this game before yesterday. Although I'm a big fan of PoP, the last couple of games put me off the series completely, to the degree that I didn't even bother to read up on this one or even look at videos and screenshots. I don't know what made me suddenly look closely at this one yesterday, but now I'm completely sold on it, looks and sounds totally amazing. Exactly the kind of game I need right now. I rarely play games these days and I've been avoiding paying full-price for games because I end up not playing them and they just end up losing value on my shelf, but I'm most likely preordering this one. Smart move on Ubisoft to make the LE preorder only.

If I buy the UK version of the game (I really want that LE from Play.com), will it play on my US PS3?

I dunno. I'm a huge PoP fan, but...

The reviews, at least, are starting to turn me. But they're doing nothing to soothe my worries about some of the new things (like Elika as a whole). IGN's review was just so fanboyish and hyperbolic that I couldn't take it as anything other than comedic.

I really hope this game is good. I've been desiring some strong quality single player dedicated gaming for quite some time. This generation is far too multi-player oriented
AKA financially motivated
for me to really enjoy & participate in.
