Official PS3 Update 3.0 Thread of Clock/Battery Fix Hotness and Crotch-Grabbin' Win!

I wonder when people will learn to decide. I remember back when people got the original PS3 everyone had to bitch about the buddy list display, time passed, people got used to it.

And now we're back at stage 0. I bet with due time people will 'suddenly' not mind it all.

At least the friend list looks fine now, and the road fits perfectly for all the other menus as well. If I continue with this wallpaper, I might make the icons as well...

Just updated my PS3 and nothing bothered me that much. However,I did notice that the completion % for some of my games in the trophy section changed.

My RE5 % went from 85% to 83%
GTA4 from 29% from 34%
Bioshock from 13% to 15%

Did anybody else experience this?

No, people will always hate it... they will just not complain about it anymore. I always hated the Spiderman font on the fat PS3 but over time I stopped complaining about... but that doesn't change that fact that I hated it then just as much as I hate it now.

I heard that platinum aren't added in the percentage anymore so it's adjusted.
 
720p here... Annnd ya.. the larger font doesn't bother me at alll.. infact.. I can barely even tell..

And the friends list does indeed suck a fat one.. But Damn Mik's wallpaper looks niCEeee though :)

It's not like we can do anything about it... and as such there's no point in moaning endlessly.

Would you prefer people moaned endlessly?
 
I think the designers need to take a look at their original concept of the XMB and rethink the current one, because the minimalist/simplistic design is gone. It might not look too cluttered, but it certainly feels cluttered.

The official blog is flooded by people asking for Eric Lempel's head over the firmware 3.0 debacle:lol :lol, a bigger font and grey boxes have really been too much to stand for those people. Btw the comment section was closed as Sony is reading the feedback they got so far which probably means we'll get firmware 3.1 with the option to change the font and the friend list look by the end of the month.
 
Damn, I had no idea about the new Multi-Audio out function. This is a godsend to those who stream their games online - previously there was no way for me to listen to the game on my home theater system AND stream it at the same time (unless I did it with a mic).

Unfortunately, there's no way to actually select what secondary (or tertiary) audio sources you'd like to use. It just defaults to "all of them". Therefore, I've got three speakers that my PS3 sounds are coming from (computer via component, TV via HDMI, Home Theater via Optical). :lol

Still, it's a step in the right direction. Kudos for that, Sony.

Is there anyway to make everything smaller especially the fonts? My gawd.. :lol

I hope Sony is responsive enough to PS3 owners to rush out 3.1 with the option to change font size, friends list background box color and deactivate the annoying ticker.

That would be super.

We will be getting 3.01 really soon, but mainly to fix the install bug problems people have with a few games. That kind of stuff is patched super quick.

I'm really surprised at some of the reactions I saw here and on the official blog. It's sad but some people will never be satisfied no matter what Sony does.
 
Only took them fourteen months to listen to people and fix the clock. I imagine the friends list, font size and infobar will be sorted in no time.

Go to System>Display Settings>Fonts>Throw PS3 in Trash>Buy New PS3 with FW 2.8>Never Update

Happens pretty much every time, and the more true "concern" there is the easier it is for trolls to blend in with the crowd.. just keeps growing from there. I don't give a shit what anyone says, IMHO this was a great update. Only a few things I would like to be different, but other than that it's a huge step in the right direct.

BTW, how about simply displaying the PSN level to the right of whoever's PSN ID you have selected? Is it necessary to also display the amount of trophies and whatnot as well?.. I would also love it if we would have more space to type, hell they could simply make it scroll if you typed too much.. would be useful if you were to connect to something like twitter for example and automatically update your PS3's status.

I also wish they would give us different icons for each level upgraded, kinda bland as is.

Well they will since over 90% (ok 99.99%:lol :lol ) of the feedback on those things has been negative and it's quite easy to fix them.
Personally I'm not bothered by the bigger font but I'd like to have the option to change it. As for the friend list this seems a really good idea:

Keep the box just for the selected friend so that all the details are highlighted and perfectly visible but the grey tower of boxes has to go, it looks really hideous. Nothing which justifies the drama but it's still ugly.
 
If the new font looks even bigger at 720P, then I can understand the gripe. At 1080P, it's alright but I definitely wouldn't want it to be one big bigger. In fact if they give us the font size option later (which looks like it will now be the new #1 demand), I'll probably revert it too.

As for the friend list thing, I really don't give a rat's ass. I like that it now presents more info, even if it is ugly. Not like I'm spending a lot of time looking at it anyway, especially with the new upper-right indicator.
 
I like the bigger font, at least I don't mind it. But the real sin here is the friends list graphic. Surely they didn't think it looked good? I guess they did though. I don't really want them or need them to do anything with the font/icon size but that friends list has to go.

Agreed.

I don't pretend that the new friend list design isn't nasty on the eyes, though I don't think it's such a big deal in order to blemish the whole update.

Sony has showed us many times in the past that they listen to the feedback more than anyone else, thus I'm confident that these minor flaws will get fixed in some other FW update.
