Official Rune Factory Frontier Thread

Okay, after browsing gamefaqs and finding out that you can fucking breed Unicorns in this game, I've decided that after I finish Little King's Story I'll be picking this up
fuck yeah

marvelous pwns

This game is sick. Picked it up about 2 weeks ago and playing it in my free time. Just got to summer and i got a question.... my farm is already in prosperity so, does that make your crops grow twice as fast? or just REgrow?

I'm actually still working on this. Lifes distractions make it hard to sit down and divest time into a game like this.

I'm halfway through my first Autumn and things are coming along. I've been giving Mist a turnip every single day and have my entire field plowed, but shes only up to 7 hearts and I missed out on the boat race :(.

Finally got Iris to unlock the back gate to that giant tree and climbed it. The tower at the top rapes me pretty badly so right now my goal is to get better equips to survive. I assume the way to save Whale Islands giant rune ball is in that tower.

I've given up on playing the runey game for now. I tried to keep up on it but it's too frustrating. I checked it the other day and some areas on the map were completley wiped out. My farm seems to stay in prosperity as long as I'm growing things so thats all I'm worried about.

Another question for those who are further than me. In the original rune factory I was able to make a team of monsters work on the farm and they would do shifts. So to water my plants I went out and got 3 elefuns only to find just one can work at a time. The little fella didn't get very far and since about half my field is crop I can't rely on him yet. Do farm workers get skilled enough to where they can do most of the field by themselves?

Ha, I just realized that I have the exact same complaint about RFF and LKS: targeting.

If anything at all, the targeting is the only thing that slightly ruins this game. Otherwise it's brilliant.

-and that's disappointing if LKS has the same problem =/ ah well, I'll still prob pick it up next paycheck :lol

And for us poor European, Rune factory frontier is delayed again. Apparently to spring 2010 but I can't find the game on the rising star games website. Are they publishing it? Or is it someone else?

We have tree of tranquillity tomorrow though.. but that's not the HM I wanted :(

oh noes, not this shit again. They did this over and over with Magical Melody! FFFFUUU :(

And they did the same with Rune factory DS (2 years late), Rune factory 2 DS (no release date), Sunshine island DS (still no release date), Animal parade (still no release date)...

I'm afraid we can't expect RFF before spring/summer 2010 at best, but if it follows the 2 years trend we wont see it before 2011...

Amazon delayed my preorder for tree of tranquility as well.(to November 2nd!) I know it's published by Nintendo in Europe but I don't get it. HM is huge in Europe and we get fucked again and again.

Will check the local retailer later today or by tomorrow. This sucks!

The whole RFF system is pretty thight, it probably doesn't allow cash hacks holes, great part of this is the Runeys and the RP system, it's a better designed simulator game than HM serie, period. Awesome game, with a solid system, the events are actually very fun :D

The autum theme is beautiful.

I'm back to playing this again after I knocked off a few other titles (notably, Silent Hill:SM, and Mario & Luigi:BIS). I restarted my farm, but I was only in late Spring to begin with. I have a small field of crops, turnips and strawberries. Starwberries for a decent profit, and for the laddies (Anette, and maybe Rosetta). Given I have such a small field though, I've been mining the dungeons heavily per usual.

I'll have over a few thousand when I reach my first holiday, and I'll have to decide between a kitchen and a forge. I won't have the fishing rod for at least another week, so maybe I'll put off the kitchen, but it's tough to pass on. I should still have enough to get my barn up soon as well.

I'm going to go hardcore at this game for a few weeks, because I love it and I really want to progress. It's one of those titles that needs my entire attention though, and I can't get distracted by other games. :D

RFF did seem really tightly designed wrt economics and levels compared to even the DS games, which is pretty much the limit of my HM experience. Both of those had some pretty gaping holes as far as cash or magic. RFF kept me on the path solidly.

But I can't say much good about Runeys. They were a neat idea, they're beautiful to look at, but they are so friggin' awkward to deal with... just saps all the fun out of the whole thing.

I had started this game up a few days ago, though I want to wrap up another game or two before really digging into it, and I have a feeling it'll take me a while to get a handle on everything that I'm supposed to be doing.

At the moment I just have a tiny patch of turnips (just sold the first batch for a few grand), and have a nice sword to kill baddies with. Other than wandering around town when I have a few minutes, I've otherwise been heading to the dungeon, clearing out the first level so far.

All told I've only put about 2 hours into it, so I'm sure there will be much more to attend to as time goes on.

Yep, I agree

Runeys are a really cool idea, they also give off an awesome visual effect.

But managing them is a big pain in the neck. I felt there were several oversights to the whole system. For one, only being able to check the Runey levels in the clock tower or by finding Candy is obnoxious. In RFF you are constantly working against time and having to traverse 2-4 screens before you can even check Runey levels is ridiculous. Second the method of moving the runeys with the harvester is another mess. It just takes way too long. Switching to the tool, the long drawn out animation, runing around every area to find the type of runeys you need to move around.

I found that to manage runeys it took up the good majority of an entire day. Walking back and forth to the clock tower, carefully searching and picking out the right colored runeys with the harvester......... and the entire process was a chore that pulled me away from the games fun activities.

I thought I could simply ignore it. My farm always had crops growing which always kept my fields Runey population at prosperity. But then I got into some of the final end-game activities like having to grow those 500,000 day flowers to make the best equipment. I would grow them in caves (the only place you can) and because the Runey populations were out of wack above, the flowers would all die before they were ready. I would have had no problem with runeys if they were strictly beneficial and could be ignored but because they hurt you and flat out prevent you from getting the best equips I wish they weren't there. For me they ruined the post-game experience of one of the best games I've played for a while.

I finally beat this game by the way. Beat the storyline anyways, there is still a lot I wanted to do. Fantastic fantastic game. Best HM/RF experience I've ever had which makes me weep that nobody cared about this game.

I agree with the notion that this game really paces things out and doesn't have any "broken" things about it that always threw the economy out of wack in previous games. The only pacing issue I didn't like was how slow the girls fall in love. I gave Mist a Turnip every single day my entire play through, kept my field entirely plowed, and made a point to talk to her on every festival. I beat it towards the end of my first winter (100+ hours later!) and she only had 7 hearts.

About the runey system: At first I didn't have any idea how the system worked, so I screw the balance of my runeys on Homestead, my farm was a mess before that, crops taking forever to grow. So I start a new file, and can finally understand the runey system.

It's not that terrible as I though at first, I just care to maintain prosperity in Homestead, keeping prosperity in the whole world is just insane :lol, so no, only Homestead for me, besides it's really easy maintain the homestaed balance because it doesn't favor any runey over other, so the food chain will keep constant for the most part, 45-45-45-45 is a good start.

I only check the Tower once every month, and the runeys keep a constant balance, just bear in mind that you need a grass sector 3x3 (at least) in order to new runeys appear. Every 20th or so new runeys will appear in other towns (bonus) so you can extract from here to create rune stones, miracles, or just add runeys to your homestead.

Keep the whole world in balance is not necessary at all, it's more like a challenge, it too avoid people hack easy money by exploting other areas.

Not sure why people have many troubles with runeys, maybe because a new feature, but really, the only troublesome season could be after winter in which it seems born many water runeys which screw the balance of the other runeys on Homestead, so check it out.

I higly recomend learn the runey system the earliest you can, talk with Kanno, befriend with him, and his daughters. I learned the runey system later (second year) and I was done, I had to start a new file.

I say this like someone that was about the throw the game out the window becuase the runey system.
I didn't have a problem with my homestead runeys. I didn't touch them the entire game and they never got out of control. Just constantly grow stuff and you will be ok.

Did you beat the game? The only way to get the best equips is to grow flowers with over 30 day grow times. This means they have to be made in caves, caves which are right below the different non-homestead areas.

So essentially to enjoy the cool weapons and armor you need to have proper runey levels in at least 3 other areas.

Europe?

man i want to give Rising Star my mony but it seems that they don't want it. I am still waiting for the actual destribution of Steal Princess and Luminous Arc 2and the releses of Avalon Code, Rune Factory DS 2 and Muramasa.

and now this. screw off RS. and i actually bought all thier titles full price instead of waiting 2 weeks to drop its 70% innitial price.

screw you RS

They released Muramasa back in November though, it just happened that no one noticed it. Which isn't that surprising considering that you can barely buy it anywhere.

I'm in my first year =P, my brother has forged a lot of weapons though, not problem so far with the my runeys in Homestead, that was the point of my previous post, to point out that Homestead is very stable place, if you want get another areas in prosperity... well that's another story, that's why I said that I see the runey system like a challenge, since keep prosperity in other areas will require a lot of attention and time.

Have you ever got prosperity in other areas? mine are always red XD, I don't care about other areas since is enough for me get money from Homestead =)

It's not really keeping the Runey count in balance that's the issue.. it's getting it there after you've ignored it for over one full season. The reason Homestead is easy to control is because the Runey dominance system does not apply in the area.

In order to get my balance back, after ignore it for a while, I created what guides have called a 'Grass Factory', a 60/10 ration of water/grass runey. This makes grass runey, the toughest runey to keep up in the 'wild', grow like crazy. You can harvest, then spread it around.

Once a section is in prosperity, it will produce a ton of earth/water/tree runey.. which makes perfect sense to have a grass factory. I think for those that don't care about the factor, keeping levels are 20/20/20/20, and just checking twice per month to 'be safe' is fine. If you completely ignore it though, it can make some of the challenges in the game, like growing those long-wait time flowers in dungeons.

Regarding the PAL version, Rising Star Games recently made a statement on their official forum that said Rune Factory Frontier, Fragile Dreams, and Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga would all be released Q2 2010. (They appear to be waiting for the new financial year to kick off in April.)

They're also publishing Arc Rise Fantasia, but that appears to have been moved back to late 2010.

Tsunami just wrecked my field. Didn't really touch the crops, but the formerly (entirely) clean field is covered in crap. :lol

Thankfully, my monsters are at a decent enough level they'll clean up almost all of it. In other updated news, Summer 11, and I have the upgraded forge.. so now water takes seconds (although I just recruited an Elephant too).

Runes have not been too much of a pain. I have my Homestead, and a couple others in prosperity.. and I'm slowly working the others up. I've turned Road to the Beach into my Grass Factory, and it's working well. My Homestead produces so many greens as well it can handle the other two areas grass supply by itself.

This all means I'll be micromanaging the runes for another couple of in-game weeks. It's a bit of a pain, but it stops me from trying to run through all the dungeons ASAP, and keeps my levels in check.

Damn
snow ruins is pretty tought =/
I´m on level 55 and I can´t reach more than 6 rooms. I wonder if I should go for
Whale Island Flank first
(?)

I STILL haven't gotten anywhere in this game because I just don't feel like using my WiiMote.

. . . I wish they would have just used the GC controller, I don't like dropping batteries when theres no reason I couldn't play with a GC controller. >_>

The game doesn't use the pointer, hence the batteries tend to last longer, you can deactivate waggle in the options, so there's no excuses to not play it ;)
well, only if you screw up your runeys >___<
. You can use the CC too =)

Anyone else find it pleasantly ironic that the only console game ever to have MMV USA's logo on the front is Rune Factory Frontier? Because it's the FIRST. TIME. EVER. That a Harvest Moon game that was brought over by another company besides Natsume.

For players of most of the series at least, how'd you place RFF? I've only played A Wonderful Life GC, Magical Melody GC, and RFF. RFF get's my vote as the best easily, but I really liked AWL as well.

Probably the best in the series IMO, I think I've raved about it before in here.

I don't know about being best, but it's a very good rune Factory game. I'm only at the end of Spring of the first year, though, so I'm not sure how much my enjoyment will change as I play more. I still find the wife selection terrible.

Oh, and I can't get enough of the intro. The song is so happy, fun, and wacky!

It's because RFF isn't technically a "Harvest Moon" game. Since the first one was so popular, the series separated from HM when RF2 came out. Even on MMV's HM page you'll find RF1 in the "Harvest Moon" category, but the others won't be listed.

I don't think MMV expected RF to take off as well as it has. Innocent Life seems to of completely bombed and there hasn't been a true sequel; there's the original PSP version and then a "special" Ps2 edition with a few enhancements. But Rune Factory has apparently triggered an appeal that fans of Harvest Moon were impressed with, and now there's even a 3rd DS game out in Japan.

I have RFF and RF2 on my to-play stack on my desk (as well as LKS), but Marv keeps throwing out more HM games that I have to keep up with :lol I haven't decided which one to tackle first.

I'm really glad there's another HM-like game out there that people are interested in. Maybe they'll go ahead one day and try playing a game from the series that RF was inspired off of ;)

I already knew it pretty much became its own series in Japan, but Natsume still attached the HM name on RF2 in NA, and XSEED said they ain't bringing over RF3 (whoEVER could be doing it instead? :P), but regardless, RF will always be seen as a HM game. :P

Tiny bit OT, but has anyone tried Magical Melody in NA on Wii? Does it support 480p finally?

Has it been finally released in Europe?
The game is out in EUROPE!!!! Saturday was it!

We (me, my GF and my mother) played the last two days for around 8h each!

Like mentioned in the OP: THis is the definite Harvest Moon after the SNES game. My mother was afraid of the fighting and stuff but she loves it.

We all love the game and cannot stop!

<3

btw: Ther e is no "Fantasy Harvest Moon" or something on the case or the booklet like it was with Rune Factory 1! Instead there is a small sticker like circle with "part of the HM Family" ;)

Maaan this thread bump reminds me that I still really need to buy this game. Maybe it's like $20 now or something, or will be in the near future. I'll have to keep my eyes out for it

Yeah it's one of the best deals at Gamestop right now with their Game Days sale. $19.99 for this game (that was really hard to find at one time) is a great deal. Don't miss it for that price.

Finally bought it too. But it's difficult to find time to play :/ Still managed to put a few hours, I'm in the middle of spring now, my farm is still a mess and I just have a red squirrel in my barn. Very slow progresses :p
The game is very nice looking but I'm kinda bothered by the too many loading screen, I liked the opening music of the DS version better too. But overall I really like this game!

I can't for the life of me grow food for my live stock :(. It's been ten days since i planted, i water every day, but when I try to cut it last night it went nowhere, not even in my barn.

so you might've seen my thread about this being on sale during Gamestop's spring sale and consequent ravings about how fun the game is.

And really I'm having a freaking blast. I'm halfway through summer in the first year. But I keep hearing grumblings online about the runey system. Right now Candy will accept runeys to make into stones and I'm about to finish the first dungeon. So the question is how involved do I have to get with this runey system? Can I just ignore it? If not what's the minimum I must do?

really loving the game so far. It's criminally overlooked.

it's enough to have all areas green on the map! To achieve that you need at least 1 runey of the type what is prefered by a certain area (the symbol left to the 4 runeys on the bottom).
But it is straight forward anyway!
Seaside => water runey majority
Entrance green ruins => gras
eriks area => gras
...

I gather runeys in my area everytime there are a lot of them. Once or twice a week I check the map to rearrange some missing runeys in the other areas.

If you get areas in prosperty (>35 runeys each type) you get increased growing speed everywhere! Those areas are yellow on the map.

if you get areas empy (zero runeys) growing takes longer and some of your crops die everywhere!

just a tip for the dungeons:
try to get access to the staircase in each level! Once you got their and opened the door you can go down there the next time you get into the dungeon. This is not thaaaat necessary in the green ruins but becomes essential in the next ones!

btw: I'm at 80hours in and my mother is at 160hours (summer year 3 :D)

A little OT but I've seen this game mentioned around here a few times and are the DS Rune games worthwhile? I would love Harvest Moon on DS but it seems like none of them were any good.
