Am I the only person that likes to watch the intro every time they boot up the game?

Nope, I watch it every single time. Well for a daily session. Found the Mp3 too :D If you're curious. It's the "The Sweetest Time" by Nakatsuka Takeshi

On my second in game week now. I have a small field of strawberries going which only takes me a few hours to water (less now, actually), a barn, one monster, some grass growing, fridge/frying pan in the kitchen, and I've upgraded all my tools now.

I was exploring Whale Island, but now I've ventured into Green Ruins.

Very fun, liking this a lot more than the original.

Yeah, It's as if they've nailed down how to handle a RPG Harvest Moon.

Nope, although I don't usually watch it the whole way through. I usually skip past once it shows the Mist part. <3

Since the first day was a festival. I was like "Hope they're not serious about this circus music being the summer theme..."
Thats something I was starting to worry about. Are there any festivals in spring? I'm on day 15 of spring I think and so far not a single festival and I don't even know how to check to see when festivals are (no calander I can find :( ). I was starting to think there weren't festivals in this game at all.

Thanks a lot. I'm in the library right now and you guys made me want to see/hear the opening again so I looked it up on Youtube. But I won't be able to play the game today.... :pppp

Yeah, it's been the best Harvest Moon experience for me since Friends of Mineral Town (which is great) or Harvest Moon 64 (which is my favorite in the series). I'm happy I didn't play the first two DS Rune Factory games because I might have been burnt out on the gameplay. I've played almost every Harvest Moon game, and I've been looking for that feeling of addiction since HM64.

Granted, I loved some things about A Wonderful Life, but the design just wasn't executed well enough and it became tedious and hard to enjoy. The village was a lot like clock town in Majora's Mask, but with less interaction and it was hard to tell how you impacted people or their lives. But the worst part was the slow, cumbersome farming/animal tending and the length of the days. I would love to see them attempt that again, but with a much better design approach. And they could do it in a Rune Factory game. But for now, Frontier is the best in the series in a long while.

The calendar is wedged between the table holding your diary and the storage chest beside it. It can be hard to get it to be the active item, but it's there. For all the festivals I can remember, I always heard about it from a towns person the day ahead as well.

I'm like two or three days from summer and have not seen any kind of festival. Almost missed the entire Runey thing if Kyori hadn't told me! I just met Candy and Cinnamon.

I updated the OP with the few reviews I found on Metacritic. Still no attention from 1up, Gamespot, Gametrailers or any other big names besides IGN.

I also added some choice quotes from you guys to the OP.

I wonder if there is a voice actor list for this game. I think Selphy is Wendee Lee because when she goes crazy about books it sounds like Faye from Cowboy Bebop. I think it would be neat to know who did what voice.

There's one semi festival near the end called the Flower Festival or something. That day, any flower given away is treated as a special boost. Eunice starts it I believe. I'm not sure how it works out the following year.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, I'm pretty sure Raguna is JYB.

Well shoot, I guess I better start growing some flowers.

I wonder if its possible to get Eunice to go on her diet but still marry Mist. Also, am I the only one who can see Klaus or is Annette just teasing when she says she cant see him? Seriously the guy freaks me out.

oh wow.. i'm at the middle of summer and i missed the festival on the first day of the month... :(

actually i expected this, i was never good at simulation games.. :/

anyway, i stopped playing it for a while to complete other games, so now i'll return playing it
now i have TOO MANY big stones and big trees on my territory and still don't know how to destroy them >_>
i tried breeding a slime until he says he can go destroy rocks but he doesn'ìt do anything! what do i have to do? >_>"
also, how can i know what food they eat? i tried buying anything i can, but no one eats anything... .-.

i'm sorry but i need to ask for help, as i said before i'm not good with these games :)

You don't quite have to grow flowers. If you're close enough friends with some others. They'll give you flowers... which you can regift :lol and yes you can. You can do all the events for the girls before marrying them. Marriage in this game infact is quite complicated. No Blue Feather this time! And also, you can't even marry some of the girls until the main scenario is completed (Mist for example) I believe you can get Eunice to diet around i think 4 or 6 love points? Anyway, I forgot to mention. The best possible HM experience yet would mean the game at least had festivals :D Unlike.. AWL. XD

Lavpa: Correct

Kenji: Raise the slime up to 1 point of friendship at least, then talk to it without the brush on and it'll give you the option to make it work. It'll be slow at first, but as you raise your friendship, it'll get more efficient .

You can get all the girls to full hearts without marrying them.

I assume Summer Crops?

Yes.

You need to ask your monsters to do work by talking to them. Destroying boulders requires 2 hammer upgrades and stumps requires 1.

how do i raise the friendship? do i just have to brush them?

where can i find the upgrades?
i've read in another forum they are in the lava ruins, but i still haven't unlocked that dungeon

So what's the best game between this and Rune Factory 2 DS ?

Gameplay wise I mean. I don't give 2 fists about the graphics.

.

You need silver, but you'll also need to upgrade your forge. And yes, Just keep feeding and brushing them daily.

Ranger X: Hands down Frontier.

Going only by my RF2 knowledge, kenji: You also need feed for your monsters. Get the scythe (or sickle?) and cut down feed (grass) once it has grown fully. That should add it to your feed pile, just like chopping wood will add it to your wood pile. You should also be able to buy pre-cut feed from someone for outrageous prices. That one needs to be added to your pile by dropping it in the feed box on your monster barn.

In related news, I just found out how to erase savegames in RF2 thanks to a stuck shoulderbutton on my DS. In my tired stupor I killed off both saves.

...

ARGH!

I finally bought this game two days ago and I've playing a lot since then. I love it so far and is the best experience I had with a harvest moon type of game. I just started the summer season and failed to smash the watermelon. I hope there more festivals in the other seasons.

Yes, you have to brush the monsters to raise their friendship so that they can help you, also they eat fodder which you can buy from Erik(the guy next to your farm) or you can also grow fodder yourself (buy the seeds from Erik too)

thanks for all the helps guys :D
i will play tomorrow afternoon, and probably i'll come back with other questions. :lol

ARGH.

The Runey System is idiotic!

Just when I think I finally have it figured out, I dont. I just cant keep the grass population up! Even with two grass factories!

It just requires too much maintenance. Its insane that they actually expect you to run around using the harvester and suck all those little bastards up. Its so inaccurate, I should be able to use the Runey Viewer thing in the church to select which runeys I want, how many, and where I want to move them. Its just stupid that they dont let you do somthing like that. Or even being able to upgrade the harvester to suck up an entire area, or turn it to a certain mode so it only harvests a certain type of runey!!!

If they did SOMETHING like this it would literally save me an entire in game day. Thats how long it takes me to maintain prosperity in ONLY 3 AREAS. I cant imagine how long it takes to maintain like 8 or 9. ARGGH. I dont see how anyone could have play tested this game and not found it frustrating. Im so turned off by it I almost want to just stop playing, which is a damn shame b/c I really really love this game. I also like the idea of the system. Its really cool, but the implementation is just awful.

Protip to newer players. Learn the Runey System right away. Learn it well and maintain it from the beginning.

Yeah, i'm having a Rock Runey shortage problem in my game as well.

I just approach it thusly:

1. Keep Water Runeys low at all times,

2. Make sure no one population (except grass) get too big. Otherwise the others will suffer.

so guys, i played today for a few hours and did all the tips you suggested me

i planted the seeds that erik sells, which when they grow up i have to cut them to get some monster food..
well, i don't get anything by cutting them, why? o.o"

also i got the forge and new stuffs, and beaten the green ruins boss

can i already go to the lava ruins? where's the entrance?

Actually it hasn't been bothering me lately. Of course I don't try to get the bonuses, but still.

My suggestion is to always have an ample supply of runeys on your person and just toss 10 or 20 of whatever is needed in whatever section once a week. That's what I do and I've gone two seasons without it bugging me.

Haha its a shame this is the ONE RF game that dosnt do wifi trading, or id trade you some Rock, I have over 150 extra in storage alone, and am in need of water/grass ones!

If your talking about the GRASS seeds, 1st Id say make SURE its full grown before you cut it. If it is full grown and you cut it, you wont physically get the fodder, its instantly deposited into your barn. I hope you didnt grow crops (turnip corn ect.) and cut them down, as thats not how you harvest them.

In order to get to the lava ruins, if you take the mountain trail you have to water a seedling, it should then sprout to tree with a hole in it. Take 10 tree runeys to candy and have her form a tree based runey stone (i forget what their actually called). Then go to the tree and deposit the stone. That should open the ruins!

Best of luck!

Make sure they were grown up all the way - at least in the other RFs feed can be harvested multiple times after you've planted it once. If it's gone now you were too greedy and cut it too early, which will just destroy it without giving anything in return.

Also, harvesting it by cutting it should transfer it directly to the monster barn.

To see how much feed your barn has:
  • Press (+) button
  • Keep pressing (+) button until you get to the Barn menu
  • Now you can see how much fodder you have in the barn

thanks for the help guys, problem solved :D

a question: does your character get tired too much soon? my char yes, i don't have so much lands to water, but i consume all the energy :/
is this only my situation? i guess i need to level up, i'm at lvl 21 now

Its not just about leveling up your actual characters level, but leveling up the tools he has. For instance, the more you water, the easier it becomes. Soon, once you get it up to a certain level, it will only literally take a sliver of health away.

Also, never go to bed with extra RP or HP, almost every activity you do levels somthing up, which will make it things easier in the future, if you have extra RP/HP before you go to bed, make sure you use almost all of it up so your not wasting any.

I'm going to play this tomorrow, but I have a question: Do I need a guide for this? I tried to play Tree of Tranquility and I was...overwhelmed. I don't know what should I do, time passes very quickly and I get tired very easily. I usually refrain myself from using a guide, so can anyone answer my question?

I havnt played ToT, but I can say your probably going to be overwhelmed. Theres so much to do in this game, and it can be very confusing and overwhelming esp. in the beginning. Its a VERY open ended game, so theres not a whole lot in game telling you what to do. I would say if you dont like guides maybe if you have questions post them here, look through the forums

here: http://fogu.com/hmforum/viewforum.php?f=15&sid=e1ef1b023d6aa7ed8d5f39df1c62470c

and if you can stomach it look through the gamefaqs forums whenever you come across something you dont know, there are alot of mini guides on both.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! I only got 4 days to play since I'm going home on holiday, so I will probably need a guide. It's not like I don't like guides, but I'm just trying to enjoy the game without them and enjoying the gameplay surprises.

This cannot be applied to any Harvest Moon I've played, though :| Finding out which girls like what gifts is a chore to find out manually, not to mention all those little but useful things in the game that are not explained in the manual or in the game itself. Looks like this was no exception, thanks for letting me know :D

How much adventuring/dungeon exploring is there in this game?

From what I hear, there is only four dungeons, which is a lot less than the prior RF games. Or is that misleading with not having as much adventuring, even with only having four dungeons?

But would you say the ratio of adventuring/dungeoneering to farming is less in Frontier compared to the other two RF's? I.E. less adventuring than the prior games? Or is how you adventure designed differently?

I know :( it sucks b/c I didnt know really anything about HM 64 and that was the best HM experience ive ever had. But everyone since then I try and find out all there is to know (w/o spoiling TOO much) just because the games are so open ended, I dont want to miss out on events, important items ect. Ive tried not knowing things about RF2, but I felt so lost I eventually went back to the guides.

The main thing Ive noticed about the dungeons is that they arnt cake walks like the DS RFs. There is no "cure health" spells, and the dungeons are huge, packed with enemies and spanning several floors. Not to mention if your not even close to being up to snuff level/strength/weapons wise, your going to get your ass kicked.

Also the question I have about dungeons is...do you have to kill all monsters and generators before you can enter the boss door like in previous RFs? or does the door open as long as you get there?

Ok, that definitely answers my question. Thanks.

WOW Lvl. 42 farming and he still runs out of energy JUST from watering? You either must have a TON of stuff to water, or somthing else is up.

Im pretty sure my farming is below that and even using a charged up water it takes just a sliver away

Yeah, I'm im the 30-40s here and it's still killer. I think what'd help is if I could get the final watering can.

The latter.

Getting to the bottom is accomplishment enough. No need to destroy all the portals.

well i have 2 pumpkin crops, 1 turning crop and 10 fodder crops atm
maybe i have too much fodder crops, but i had problems with monsters feed so i preferred to gain many units of them

New Year's Festival
1st of Spring, beginning in Year 2

Celebrate the new year.
Rice Cakes are the present of choice.
Talk to Rita in the town square on the 30th of Winter and she'll give you a New Mochi, to break at the New Year's Festival.

Sainte-Coquille Festival
19th of Spring, beginning the second year.

Game: Sainte-Coquille Festival
Meet Bianca at the Town Square to play. The object of the game is to bring Bianca the dish she requests from the choices provided, within the time limit. While there are other townspeople participating, they don't actually do anything during the game and their scores are random. You'll get five foods for participating, category depending on where you place. First place wins premium main courses, second place gets soups, third place is desserts, and last place receives appetizers.

Tips and Tricks: Knowing your cooked dishes by sight will really help here.
As always, you can save before playing and reset if you don't like the outcome.

Foliage Festival
29th of Spring, beginning the second year.

First year, can get flower from Eunice and Stella on this day. Following years, when it becomes a town festival, you give flowers to "those you are indebted to."

Anette gives: Toy Herb
Candy gives: Moondrop
Eunice gives: Moondrop
Ganesha gives: Moondrop
Iris Blanche gives: Charm Blue
Iris Noire gives: Pink Cat
Lara gives: Moondrop
Rita gives: Toy Herb
Rosetta gives: Toy Herb
Stella gives: Toy Herb
Tabatha gives: Moondrop

My wife loves this game (she's put over 100 hours into it and has completed the storyline) and is in the process of writing a walkthrough for it that I borrowed the above from. ^_^

So nobody can judge as to if it should be played on DS or on Wii?

What are the main advantages/disadvantages between RF2 DS and RFF? And what's your final verdict on which game is best? Thanks for the help!
