Official Rune Factory Frontier Thread

if you don't mind fighting monsters then yes. But I would take the second one. The first is a bit frustrating imho! Dying means game over and load last save, fall-storms destroy the 75% of field, ...
If you don't mind this either, buy it!

So I've been very focused on the farming and lava ruins (how do I open that door on the 4th floor?).

But it's winter now and except for the runeys in my farm all the other areas they're practically wiped out. Some are completely eradicated in others there's like 3.

Should I care? If so why?

Finally got around to buying this a couple days ago. Haven't had too much time to play it so far, but other than the fact that it was a real hassle trying to figure out where to get the basic tools this game seems awesome so far.

Too bad this thread never took off :/

Hrm. I have to say that so far RF2 on the DS feels more alive.

I'm only three weeks in, so this will probably get better as I further progress in the game. For now it's a bit eerie though.

Am I doing things incorrectly or is the mailbox buggy? Several welcoming letters have vanished. I read them at the mailbox and now they don't show up on the table. Weird.

Anyway, so far it's plenty of fun. Love my forge/lab/crawling through dungeons with my trusty Spring at my side.

Not sure who I'll try to woo, courting these young'uns feels wrong, especially that warrior kiddo. Ew. Need an Alicia clone, stat. Better yet, give me a 30+ edition. I'd be far more interested in that bar maid, or the smith. Heh. Oh well.

Finally: WTB Runey birth control pills pls, these buggers are promiscuous. And perpetually hungry.

The runeys thing is just not needed and makes the game needlessly obtuse sadly (sorta reminds me of the weapons system in Vagrant story).

I also hate the fact that the game makes me feel like a pedo (just wait until you can craft swimsuits). But that's true for nearly all Harvest Moon type games, especially Rune Factory 2 where more than half the game was spent making best friends with a young girl of your choice.

Been playing off and on for the last few days, and killed that Boss in the first dungeon. Crafted a pretty nice axe from its remains. Neato.

Also finally found the wolves. At last I'm riding in style. :D

I've put a huge amount of hours into this title, but I'm only on the 'ice dungeon' (on my second, in complete playthrough). Runeys are manageable, but they did weigh on me heavily during my playtime.

I hope the next console Rune Factory takes the good from this game, and leaves the bad. Rune Factory 3 does look promising.. anyone import, or try it yet?

Bought this last week and put a couple of hours in yesterday, it's pretty much what I wanted from it, something relaxing and sedate. The music is nice, if maybe a little TOO peaceful. :)

At the risk of being told to read the instruction manual, I've got a couple of questions about the very start of the game, since so far it hasn't really been clear to me what my objectives are:

Where I am: I don't have the axe or hammer yet. Opened up the Green Ruins, planted a few turnips down there as well as my garden, been upto Whale Island, but only glanced inside, not been very far in.

Q: How do I replenish RP? I run out of RP really quickly (basically from fighting enemies, watering/harvesting crops) - after I run out, I don't know what to do, so I wait until everywhere is open then speak to everyone in the village, then go to bed. I've had some crops go unwatered because I've run out of RP before I got round to watering them.

Q: Please tell me the watering can and hoe upgrades allow me to perform their respective actions on more than one tile at a time.

Bitchtits, RP usage will at first be a real problem.

However, the more you use an item the less RP it will consume. The stuff you plant in dungeons will give you a ball of white light per 3x3 field of fully grown crop per day. Touching it replenishes 25 RP once.

Moreover, if you get a kitchen you can cook meals that will give you RP and HP as well as give you buffs.

Last, but not least there will be a time when you will find
Melody
somewhere and she'll open
hot springs
that you can use once a day to fully replenish HP&RP.

Finally: When you level up by slaying Monsters your HP and RP are replenished. This can greatly extend your Dungeon crawling sessions.

About the hoe and watering can: Yes, there will be upgrades. If you ever get a chance to get a forge, scrape together the money and buy it.

Tips: In the beginning you will still need money, so plant strawberries in the dungeon and harvest them, they'll regrow quickly and give you RP so you can explore some more - and strawberries fetch a nice price and can be used for cooking. Get a seedmaker. Get a kitchen. Get a forge. Those cost money, and the shop that sells them will only be there on weekends, so be prepared. There's a shortcut to the lower levels of the first dungeon, but you need to fight down to a lower level and open the respective door from the other side first.

If you feel confident get a barn and tame a slime monster, it will eat stones on your field for you if you feed and pet it daily. Invaluable if you drown in stones like me. Make sure you have a big helping of feed though (one per day and monster, it adds up). Hungry monsters go on strike!

^ Thanks for the tips, they're really helpful! I have a kitchen but haven't used it yet, I'm going to boot up the wii now and go through them as I play. :)

Why are runeys so overcomplicated? Will I be okay if I just keep my main farm area prosperous?
I believe you should be able to avoid local cataclisms at least?

BTW, are Rune Factory Frontier diaries popular at this point in time? Or is it too late to care?

I had the game since forever, but barely had time so... Here's mine, covering the first day of summer.

Here goes:

Since it's a holiday, Lute is not at the plaza like he usually is, instead he's in front of the church.

I went there to buy furniture and gadgets (blasting my money in the process) including every upgrades I could purchase for the kitchen and forge.

rufemv0098986680.jpg

As expected... Whale Island is not in the sky in holidays.
No dungeon crawling for you!

I'll try to do more, but considering how busy I've been I don't know when; feedback will obviously tilt me towards the direction of doing more soon'ish, though. Anyway, hope you guys appreciate it.

Game is getting expensive but I picked up a copy for $25 at GameStop.

Never really got hooked by HM but this game is well put together. Game could do better at tasking the player but I really dig how open-ended everything feels.

Digging it.
