Are ps4 disc games with ps5 patch, the same as ps5 native games?
Like, Valhalla ps4 will download update to make it equal to ps5 disc?
There are two type of patches: one of them patches the PS4 version, typically to add dynamic resolution or to uncap the framerate, what makes that game to run typically at dynamic 4K 60fps when playing in PS5 through the PS4 BC. In order to play it, you'll need to have your game disk inserted in the console.
The other type of 'patch' isn't a patch itself: when the game are crossgen (this means, they have a native PS4 version of the game and a PS5 native version of the game), almost in all games they give you the PS5 digital version for free if you own the PS4 game. But since you have it on a disk, you'll still need to insert the PS4 disk to play in a PS5, even if you're really playing a digital PS5 version of the game.
I think a few games still don't get the full boost, maybe that's what he means?
exactly boost like the ps4 pro ... not using the ps5 hw but emulating the ps4 (pro) .. this is a far cry from "we will use the ps5 frequencies" exactly as it was nonsense .. "we believe it in the generations "nobody pays me to defend the nonsense that try to inculcate me. the bc of the ps5 in addition to being limited to the ps4, is certainly not up to what people expected wait up. especially compared to the competition.
Like in PS4 Pro or Xbox, all PS4 games get boosted when running on PS5. But the thing is that some games have a fixed resolution instead of a dynamic one, or have capped framerate to 30fps or 60fps and already reached that limit on PS4, so you won't notice any difference with them on PS5 other than having shorter loading times on next gen (btw PS5 shortens PS4 Pro loading times in a bigger % than XSX shortends XB1X loading times).
Just like in Xbox, for these games the devs of that game should update them (or to make a native next gen version) to include dynamic resolution or uncapped framerate to make that boost noticiable. But since in most cases these devs/publishers consider these patches won't generate them enough extra revenue, they avoid patching the games because it requires work, time and money.
Specially for old games, because they were using an old engine which now is way newer and may require extra work to solve the many issues that traditionally appear when upgrading the engine to a very different, much newer version. Or maybe these devs left the company, or the studio is too busy with other projects.
how it endep up "we will use ps5 frequencies" ? is like "trust in new generations" all over again ..lie after lie. or we wouldn't have seen this total disparity in the same games between ps5 and xbox and excuse them in every comparation...we are just getting less than other platforms for a higher price . we should raise our voices
They never lied in these two topics.
BC games use PS5 frequencies, this is why all BC games get shorter loading times, if they have dynamic resolution they have a higher resolution than in PS4 (up to 4K) and if they have uncapped fps they get more fps, up to 60fps.
In the interview where they said they 'believe in generations' they said they will continue supporting PS4 for at least 2 or 3 years more because there's a huge active fanbase there and only a dozen or two of millions will move to PS5 in the first couple of years, and that for games released on PS5 they wanted to see games taking advantage of what the next gen offers (as I remember he specifically mentioned extra loading speed provided by SSD, 3D audio, haptic feedback and adaptative triggers). Sony never mentioned in this or in another interview that they wouldn't crossgen games.
In multi BC games, main the difference between PS5 and XSX (I'll ignore XSS) comes not from the next gen consoles themselves, but from the hardware limits from the previous gen consoles. PS4 was more powerful than XBO, so for the games without PS4 Pro and XB1X patches, devs capped framerate or resolution to a higher number on PS, where games also loaded faster. For the games that had a PS4 Pro and XB1X patch, since the XB1X was way more powerful than PS4Pro, in many cases they capped them to a higher resolution or framerate on Xbox, where games also loaded way faster. Regarding loading times, PS5 shortens PS4 Pro times in a bigger % than XSX shortens XB1X times, but the difference between XB1X and PS4 Pro was so big that many games ready for them get a way shorter loading time on XSX compared to PS5.
It's up to the devs of each game to include a patch for the game to unlock its framerate or resolution, or even to release a next gen version of the game to achieve better results in resolution or framerate, way shorter loading times (in that case basically all native next gen versions of the games get better loading times on PS5 than in XSX) and to support next gen only stuff like haptic feedback, 3D audio, adaptative triggers, raytracing, activities to skip some menus and loading screens, etc.
