Official Thread of TIGER WOODS 10 for the Wii (Motionplus)

If the Wii version is following the X360/PS3 versions, then Spyglass Hill would be the first DLC course available. The cost for the X360 course is 600 MSP ($7.50 in actual funds).

I'm thinking about double-dipping for this version, but am getting the 360 version first. Not a lot of room in this studio for me to be hacking away with Wii swings. I don't want to be *that* guy who breaks something. :lol

I'm giving the Wii version a shot this year, specially with the motion+. I've been buying the 360 version for the last three years, but the problem with the 360 version is that once you master the game and get in a tournament, you finish with an unrealistic -50 for a 4 day tourney; playing in the pro level. At least with the Wii you will have the challenge of swinging the wiimote.

This is an excellent point. There's always a spot in the game where you become overpowered and it starts to feel like Mario Golf.

Does anyone have a link to the course list? 28 courses is like over double what they have ever had before...Hopefully they aren't a bunch of tacked-on fake/fantasy courses.

EA is going to sell a ton of these especially if they run TV ads during the US Open next week. I hope that Best Buy will have some sort of demo available. I'd love to try it out.

Well my order shipped. Where are the rest of the reviews so I can validate my purchase in the meantime?

it's golf. There's your validation ;) If motionplus adds the refinement that it promises to a videogame golf swing, this will be huge for sportsgamers and golf lovers.

they haven't done the fantasy courses in years, but 27/28 sounds way too high, unless they're including future downloadable courses.

Just picked it up at Gamestop on lunch. I'm more excited to play disc golf than normal golf:lol

Traded in Zak&Wiki and Tiger 07, 08 :D

I just picked it up--it comes with a free 1-year subscription to Golf Digest or 6 issues of Golf World for those who are interested.

The problem, though, is that the website to redeem the subscription is not active.

Um, read the OP? I'm not sure which region you're in.

well, it says "this tuesday"

doesn't mention a region, is that NA? If so why is it so early compared to wiisports resort?

Why aren't there any reviews online yet? WTF?

Because video game "journalists" are such lightweight pansies that it takes them 2 weeks to recover from the 3 beers that they had at E3 parties. This shit happens every year after E3 if you pay attention.

I found this on www.backnineblog.net:

New for 10:
1. Banff Springs ( Stanley Thompson 18 )
2. Bethpage ( Black )
3. Hazeltine National C.C.
4. Oakmont C.C.
5. Pinehurst ( Course #2 )
6. Torrey Pines G.C. ( South Course )
7. Turnberry ( Ailsa Course )

Returning from 09:
8. Bay Hill Club & Lodge
9. Cog Hill Golf & CC ( Dubsdread Course )
10. Doral ( Blue Monster )
11. East Lake C.C.
12. Fancourt ( Links Course )
13. Firestone C.C. ( South Course )
14. Gary Player C.C.
15. Harbor Town Golf Links
16. The K Club Golf Resort
17. Kiawah Island Golf Resort ( Ocean Course )
18. Pebble Beach Golf Links
19. Riviera C.C.
20. Sheshan Golf Club
21. St Andrews Links ( Old Course )
22. TPC Boston
23. TPC Sawgrass
24. TPC Scottsdale
25. Wentworth ( West Course )
26. Westchester C.C.
27. Wolf Creek G.C.

I never played Tiger Woods before, so I'm surprised to see just how many courses there are. Seems like there is a good variety.

Yeah, it released in NA for the most part today. Early compared to WSR since maybe EA struck a deal with Nintendo or something, I guess.

Found this off of google for the PS3 release, I assume that the course list is the same for Wii:

* 1. TPC Sawgrass
* 2. Turnberry
* 3. St. Andrews
* 4. Bethpage Black
* 5. Bay Hill Club & Lodge
* 6. Firestone CC
* 7. Oakmont CC
* 8. Doral Golf Resort & Spa
* 9. Pinehurst #2
* 10. Wentworth West
* 11. Harbortown
* 12. Pebble Beach Golf Links
* 13. TPC Boston
* 14. Hazeltine National Golf Club
* 15. East Lake Golf Club
* 16. Torrey Pines

edit: sorry for the double post, didn't see your list above

a lot of those "new for 10" courses were in previous versions weren't they?

I've been playing the shit out of the PS3 demo and love the new control system. I'm fighting the graphic whore in me right now because I really want to experience the controls on the Wii, but damn does it look good on my PS3. what should I do GAF?!! :_(

Buy Wii Sports Resort next month to get M+ and then rent TW Wii

Why don't you just buy both versions?

Oakmont Country Club!

Wow - I can't ever remember Oakmont being in a licensed game ( the mod community made a few nice versions of it in Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Golf for the PC - years ago).

Oakmont is legendary in Pittsburgh. It supposedly costs more than $50,000 just to join the club, and then several thousand per year in fees. My Dad got to play it once because he knew a member.

I can't wait to play Oakmont using Motion +.....

Then you haven't played Links 2004 (Xbox), which featured Oakmont and which is an absolutely fan-fucking-tastic console golf game (Tiger is finally catching up, which is actually pretty damned sad).

No way! I can't believe I missed that on the original XBox.

Nothing could top Augusta National on the old Jack Nicklaus PC game. They even had the copyrighted Masters music to go along with the course.

My copy came yesterday from the EA Store.

MotionPlus works pretty well. I tested it out on "standard" control, which is in the middle of All-Play (easy mode) and Advanced (I assume it's unforgivingly accurate). I did a Quick Play, and was able to get par or better on most holes, which for me is quite a feat. Long-range putting is a bit difficult (just like real life!) but I'm sure I'll get better with practice (just like real life!). Also, driving feels great -- I was able to fade my drive left or right pretty easily.

Overall, it's a lot of fun, and I haven't even checked out the mini-games, multiplayer, or disc golf yet. It certainly is more entertaining than your standard golf game (ex: PS360 version).

disc golf is fantastic. Its the one mode of the game where you really get a sense of how amazingly 1:1 the wm+ is. SOOO GOOD buy this game now even if you dont really like golf (me) because driving/putting is fun, but frisbee golf is really cool and works

I haven't bought a golf game since Mario Golf GBC. This game annihilates. Finally, having to worry about both your backswing and power/follow through in a golf game. The control scheme at last surpasses the control scheme I thought couldn't be beaten in golf, that, of course, being the trackball.

And the amount of content in this game is overwhelming.

For those interested or haven't seen it yet:

The back of the box clarifies that the "pay-to-play" DLC sticker on the front refers to "max stats costumes"--no mention of DLC courses.

This.

I passed on Grand Slam because of the Gamestop price hike ion the M+. It's works really well, and yes Disc golf is a blast. Damn rain here all week so it'll be crappy out on the links.

My impressions:

First and foremost--BUY THIS GAME. It is, by far, THE most realistic golf game I've ever played. The swing mechanic is perfect--picks up every little bit of fade and draw (much improved over last year's version) in your swing. That doesn't mean it's unforgiving, though--once you learn the mechanics of the swing, you'll be fine. The fine-tuning of shorter swings is light years ahead of last year's version. I had a hard time taking shots under 50% last year no matter how small my backswing and how short my follow through. This year, if you swing with 1/4 power and have a 1/4 backswing, your ball is only being hit about 25% of the distance of your club. It's incredibly accurate and adds the final dimension to the Wii game that was missing for the past three years.

The most improved part of the game--Putting. Remember last year when you had to take a full swing on a 2 foot putt to hit the ball into the hole? Well, imagine my surprise when I did the same thing on the first hole and rocketed the ball about 25 feet off the green. It sucked for my score, but I smiled because it's the first time I saw how perfect this putting system is. It's JUST like real life--short putt? Hit it soft. Longer putt? Make a bigger backswing and make sure to follow through. Precision putting is the best thing in this game.

Disc golf is also loads of fun, although I have to admit I'm not very good at it. I can't stop it from curving--just like in real life. I look forward to putting the practice time in to better my game.

So far, based on my initial impressions, I'd highly recommend it to anybody looking for a golf game. It's fantastic.

the weather is based on the weather at the course location, not your home area.

That's not next-gen!

but does it make 40+ foot putts really hard?

No--it's not like last year where you couldn't even make a putt over a certain distance. You've got TOTAL control. I sank a 47 footer today.

No shortage of Tiger bundles or the standalone M at my Gamestop today so I picked up a copy. Also preordered Wii Sports Resort woot!

This will be my first experience with Wii online play... what the fuck is Pay

Is it easy to sink long putts? Because that's one thing that's bugged me about nearly every console golf game ever except HSG.

DLC.

Same as on the 360 and PS3.

I botched more than a few long-range putts (short range is a breeze), but I blame that on my lack of real-life golf skills and golf knowledge than MotionPlus or the game itself. I'm sure with time and practice, I'll get better at it.
