I DMed a mod, really wish someone would change the title or make a Wii U Experience specific thread.

When is the ATL event?

The anti-Nintendo sentiment that surfaced these past couple of days really got to you, didn't it?
Haha, nah, I'm a fanboy all the way. I just couldn't justify leaving my wife and kids at home while I drove for hours to play a console I'll be buying within the next six months anyway.

Man, I just got back and it was a total blast!

I got to play pretty much everything they had, and i'm completely sold on all the games now, and especially the system and new controller.

Everything was so much better than I was even lead to believe, and I loooooooooooooooove the asynchronous gameplay that I tried with friends too. Additionally, I managed to beast all of Project P-100 and get to see the ending (which was great btw).

I played:
Nintendo Land: Luigi and Donkey Kong

Project P-100 (fucking amazingly fun, I finished the entire demo and killed the boss int he time limit!)

Pikmin 3 (sooooo goood, and looks really really gorgeous playing it on a TV (seriously, the internet videos don't do it justice))

ZombieU Both the Multiplayer (in which I had the tablet controller, and holy shit playing it really sold me on the game) and singleplayer, which was just as great. The internet videos for ZombieU do not do it justice. The game looks fantastic in motion, and was really fluid, clean, and looked really really nice.

NSMB U with 5 people, and we all alternated with the tablet and it was crazy fun, with everyone laughing having a good time, and I was griefing people with the tablet, which was hilarious)

Rayman Legends was incredible, and looks and plays EVEN BETTER than Origins. My friend and I had a ton of fun when I found all the secret rooms in the demo stage, and there's this awesome labyrinth where you need to get to the center, but the person with the tablet controler manipulates the orientation of the room while platform and dodge all the hazards in the room.

I also saw but didn't choose to play Ninja Gaiden, Wii Fit, and Just Dance (you know how these all play already). The only thing I couldn't get to that I wanted to was Game and Wario, but I watched some people play it and it looked awesome.

I also go to use both the Tablet and Wii U Pro controller. I was originally in the camp that thought the button placement would be a negative thing, but honestly, after the first 2 minutes with it, it felt like second nature. The tablet is really really light, and very ergonomically built. Like, that thing is so comfy to hold in your hands it's ridiculous. And the joysticks on both controllers are UNBELIEVABLY SMOOTH. Where have joysticks like this been all my life? They are the smoothest things i've ever used.

Sounds awesome.

Nintendo is bringing a couple consoles to the office where I work in a couple weeks so I can't wait to try out a bunch of games!. BTW they're just bringing the consoles so we try 'em out, so I guess they'll have a few games available. I'll be playing it for about an hour.

Thanks for the summary!

Best console ever confirmed I guess.

I'll be at the Chcago one from 1-3. If you see a dude in a "Stray Sheep" shirt, obsessively checking street passes, then that will be me. Feel free to say "hi".

Got 2 codes for the Atlanta one:

Location: TBD, Atlanta, GA
Event Date: Saturday, Aug 4, 2012
Event Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

PM me if you want one

EDIT: CODES GONE

I signed up for the Atlanta one for Thursday August 2nd from 8 PM to 10 PM. I figured It would be the least attended time since it is late on a weekday.

Anyone who went to the Chicago event get any schwag? I had to leave the event a few minutes early and left empty handed.

I just got home from today's Chicago event and there wasn't any schwag given out other than a chocolate Mario mustache on a stick on the way out, haha.

I got to try out most of the games I was interested in (Zombie U, NSMB-U, Game & Wario, Rayman, and 2 of the 3 Nintendo Land games) and I was quite happy with all of them.

-Zombie U - it looked fantastic and I was having a great time popping off head-shots...until I ran out of ammo and got swarmed by zombies, haha

-NSMB U - although it's still in the same style as NSMBWii, the graphical upgrade is very noticeable in person and the squirrel suit was a lot of fun!

-Game & Wario - we got to try out the "spot the apple thief" game and "Jimmy's Skiing" game. The thief game is an interesting concept, but I think it would take a couple plays to get the hang of it. The skiing game was pretty fun, but very simplistic. If Game & Wario ends up being a large collection of mini-games it could be great but it seems a bit too simple in its current state.

-Rayman Legends - it looks and plays a lot like Rayman Origins (which is not a bad thing!) for the player controlling Rayman, but using the Gamepad to assist or mess with Rayman was surprisingly fun too!

-Nintendo Land - Luigi's Ghost Mansion - seemed like a great new spin on the Pac Man Vs formula - lots of fun!

-Nintendo Land - Animal Crossing Candy Chase - using the Gamepad to control 2 characters at once that chase/catch the other players was surprisingly fun....until the system froze on us, haha

The HD graphics looked quite nice on both the TVs and Gamepad screens (for games that used both) and I'm excited to see other Nintendo franchises get HD updates in the next few years.

The Gamepad was incredibly light but felt nice and sturdy like every other Nintendo controller. It was very comfortable to hold and the screen looked much better than I expected too!

I have to say the console itself looked pretty great too. It seemed to be about the length of a small DVD player, but Nintendo cleverly put the disc-slot on one of the narrower ends so the console won't require a huge amount of space in an entertainment center. I'm not sure if anyone else cares, but that's a huge plus for me since my TV stand is already nearly full of consoles and components.

Otherwise, we didn't get any major new info (price, release date, etc.) but I'm definitely grabbing a Wii U with at least Mario and either Zombie U or Rayman on day one!

those impressions are making my life hard to carry on. Fuck summer, fuck autumn, give me winter asap. Give me the goddamned WiiU already. Give me joy again

If anyone in the Atlanta area is interested in going to the 8-10 PM event on Thursday, August 2nd, PM me and let me know. I have some invites I can give out. You can't change the time or date and you must be at least 18 years old and have a picture ID to enter.

Also, the exact location is still TBD, but I expect it to be somewhere downtown.

I'm glad you enjoyed the console! Sounds like it's really solid

Sounds awesome.
Thanks for the impressions. I'm so jealous of all of you.
You're all welcome. If there's anything else you may be curious about, I can answer some questions to the best of my ability.

I was at the Chicago one earlier today, here's a few impressions:

NSMB U: Exactly like the Wii version, except whomever has the Wii U controller can add platforms via touch. It would probably be fun to assist one of your kids, but it's pretty much what you'd expect it to be.

Nintendo Land - Luigi's Ghost Mansion Minigame: My group's game of the show, although to have any fun, it is absolutely necessary to have 4 other friends in the room playing it. I played with my old Saturn Bomberman buddies, and we couldn't put it down. It think we played for 30 minutes straight.

Nintendo Land - Some Animal Crossing Minigame: It was a pretty fun little mini game, where the user with the Wii U controller is hunting down 4 other players who are trying to collect candy. The only problem is, is that once someone is "caught" 3 times it's game over for everyone. Meaning that if there is one person in the group that is a novice gamer, the game ends way too quickly. It seemed like it had potential, but it was really unbalanced.

Nintendo Land - Some Donkey Kong related game: Godawful. You maneuver a little car down a Donkey Kong related course using tilt controls. It plays like a really uninspired iPhone game.

Wii U Karaoke Game: Rockband and Singstar have been out longer, and have done it better. Having the lyrics on the Wii U controller screen is neat, but it really does nothing new. I couldn't recognize more than a song or two on the selection screen, which made me feel really old.

I tried playing both Zombie U and Project P-100, but the wait was far too long. I watched my friend play P-100, and I'd be very curious to see more. It looked really fresh and interesting.

Anyhow, even though my comments seem pretty negative, I think the system has some great potential. I can see why Nintendo gave everyone 3 friend invites, because all of these games pretty much require couch co-op. It was great playing with my friends, but I can't see any scenario in my life, where I would have 4 other people over to play Wii U games more than once or twice a year. The console seems ideal for families with young kids, with the goal of everyone playing together. Unfortunately my daughter is two weeks old, and my wife has no interest in gaming, so until there is a more interesting selection of single player oriented software, I'm really in no rush to pick one up.

I should also mention, that the real highlight of the Wii U Experience was making 50+ street pass transactions in less than 2 hours. I cleared out at least 3-4 puzzles today.

I'm guessing they won't let you try Nintendo Land single player?

I have no friends that are even remotely interested in playing that game. I might pop it in the Wii U if it's bundled with the console.

I got an invite for the D.C. one but it says to RSVP by July 8th.. and they sent me the email on July 18th. o_O I doubt I'd go either way, though.

No, they all but insisted that you have a full group. Nintendo Land would be an absolute snore playing by yourself.

It's great that Wii U offers local multiplayer with most of these titles, but for a lot of people, it's just not ideal for them to get 4-5 people to play with on a frequent basis. So I can't blame anyone who wants to skip out on games like Nintendoland.

Glad to see continued good impressions.

I could never find a moment to say this, but I love your avatar's "new" expression.

I still have 2 invites if anyone in the Atlanta area is interested in going to the 8-10 PM event on Thursday, August 2nd. PM me and let me know.

Sounds amazing, I would kill to go but I just don't have time. A complete shame. I know one thing though, Wii U is day one and it will be awesome.

They allowed me to play the Ninja Star and Donkey Kong one when went to NYC

I still want to know if Rayman Legends has a full single player campaign or is it a multiplayer game only?

I think it offers a full single player game. Ubisoft just wanted to show off the co-op experience. Apparently, there are areas in the game you can only access through local multiplayer. In addition, you can go online and do a challenge mode against other players complete with worldwide leader boards.

I should also mention, that the real highlight of the Wii U Experience was making 50+ street pass transactions in less than 2 hours. I cleared out at least 3-4 puzzles today.

Oh yeah, I was thrilled when I went to E3 this year - not only did I get a lot of street pass folks, I got the real Reggie and JC Rodrigo in my streetpass list!

Okay it was harder than it should've been to look up dates but looks like the Wii U DC experience is happening at the same time as Otakon, to which I'm already going.

Goddamnit guys my birthday is on the 2nd why can't I get a date on DC?!

I just tried to register late and I was asked to e-mail this address, so hopefully I get a response. They said I'll get 3 invites to give away and I'll most likely only use one of them for my girl.

If I manage to get the reservation, I'll PM you and we can discuss a meet up if you are interested. I told them I was looking to go on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Question for anyone who has been to one of these: the terms of the registration mention that anyone under 17 needs to be accompanied by an adult, but you can't actually register if you're under 18. My brother is 13 and would like to go, but I'm trying to figure out why there's contradictory information like that. Anyone have any ideas?

There should be an option in the drop-down menu that indicates if the person registrating is under 18.

Sent you a PM, but I totally understand if someone already gobbled them up.

Anyways, this is super awesome. The invites being random makes you feel special, or either (in my case) super envious of everyone who did get one. :lol
