Hey I went to the Chicago one on Saturday, I wrote up some stuff:

http://www.n-sider.com/blog/2012/07...he-mario-and-pikmin-questions-e3-goers-didnt-

Mostly (entirely) about NSMBU and Pikmin 3. Tried to figure out some stuff I didn't hear about at E3, like if you could spin-jump in NSMB without remote-shaking, and if Pikmin 3 really used IR aiming or not.

Thanks, the things you were curious about (like the Gamepad shake in NSMBU) were pretty much the same things that I wanted to know about. That was a helpful read and it's bugged me since E3 that there haven't really been any articles written about that stuff.

Looks like i just missed out on oni's offer. If anyone ends up with an extra invite to the atl one for thurs, id love the opportunity to go.

Thanks!

FYI for those going to the DC event, check your email... the location has been moved. Same time and dates and everything else though, just different place in DC.

For all Canada-Gaffers, I sent an email asking if there'll be a Wii U experience here and here's the response I got.

Nintendo PR said:
Hello,

That's a great question. While we appreciate your interest in our Wii U console and the Wii U Experience Club Nintendo promotion, we haven't yet heard of any plans to expand the event. At this time, we don't know if new locations will be added to the current, extremely limited, preview event, but I'll be sure to document your desire to see this reach Canada.

At this time, I can only encourage you to continue checking the What's New section of our website (http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew?country=CA&lang=en) and Club Nintendo (https://club.nintendo.com/home.do) for new events and promotions as they become available.

Sincerely,

Karen Johnson
Nintendo of America Inc.

Better than a kick in the teeth, though I honestly would not have expected anything more.

Still crossing my fingers for a Toronto event and a Club Nintendo invite. Be pretty cool too if it showed up at Fan Expo Canada this year; last year was rather depressing when all Nintendo had was a small trailer with 4 3DSes and OoT3D and Starfox 64 3D demos.

The one I went to in San Diego was held behind the scenes at a Nintendo Lounge event so there were tons of 3DS and Wii things.

Even in the behind the scenes area where the Wii U's were there were sofas around tables and the tables each had a few 3DS XLs attached to 'em.
Quite different from mine, then. So I guess there's no way to know unless you show up!

For those going to the DC event, I got an email saying they moved the event to the Grand Hyatt near the Metro Center stop on the Metro.

Just re-assuring everyone in the area whom in case didn't get the memo.

Went to the DC one with some friends today. Definitely had a good time, and I was impressed by how nice the set-up was (was expecting something that looked like it had a lot less effort put into it, honestly). The Wii-U cookies were a particularly fun little touch. Got to play P-100, Nintendo-Land (Luigi's Mansion twice (they changed it on us right when we sat down the second time) and a bit of Zelda), Pikmin 3, NSMBU, and Rayman Legends. I'm sure any impressions on these demos have been done to death, so I'm not gonna bother unless anybody actually wants to hear my opinion on them.

The big thing I appreciated in retrospect was the variety. Games of all genres, difficulties, player count, and even controllers. While nothing in particular really blew me away, I honestly feel like I saw an awful lot of breadth.

I was the dude in the wheelchair. I wish I knew there were gonna be GAFfers.

Anyone going to the DC event tomorrow? I'm going from 1 to 3 pm, bringing a friend along with me. I'll be wearing my Legend of Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses shirt, so say hi if you see me. Hoping to play Pikmin 3, Project P-100, Nintendo Land, and Zombi U in particular.

Can a mod change the title of this topic? There have been multiple Wii U events since the NYC one and more to come.

Anyways, I got back earlier from the Washington DC event today and it was great. I posted my detailed impressions with pictures here, so check that out. They had twelve games, and I played seven: Project P-100, ZombiU, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, Game and Wario, Rayman Legends, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Those were the ones I wanted to play and got to play them all.

Just as a brief summary, the game I had the most fun with was Nintendo Land. It was cool playing some of those games with a group of people. ZombiU was awesome and looked great. Project P-100 was fun and really chaotic, but I wasn't super blown away by it (probably cause I had a hard time figuring out what was going on half the time). Pikmin 3 looked great, as did Rayman Legends. Game and Wario was fun, nice use of the Wii U GamePad. And NSMBU is yet another NSMB game, nothing special.

All in all, I had a great time. Really looking forward to Wii U, more than ever now. If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer them.

EDIT: Guess the title was changed, but it says NYC even though others have discussed their city's events in here as well.

Has anyone heard anything about where the Atlanta event is going to be? It's in 2 days. I need to know where I'm going. >_>

I was wondering the same. Anybody who has been to one of these before care to give some insight on whether or not they usually wait this long to announce the location? It's two days away now...

I was happy to see the update about the chocolate. Thanks.

I went to the one in D.C. on Sunday and played everything I wanted to except Zombie U, which wasnt being showcased that day because it was family day or something.

Project P-100 was A LOT of fun and a little difficult. The guy in front of me was really really bad at it. Takahashi's Castle???(the throwing star game)...er whatever the hell it was called was also a lot of fun but was a little glitchy. I found the Donkey Kong game annoying but Luigi's Ghost Mansion was fun. It would be stupid for Nintendo not to have online play for that game from the start. Here's hoping.

The controller was very comfortable and I had no problem whatsoever adjusting to the stick placement although I got the impression a few people did because one of the reps was saying that people were often hitting the wrong button by accident in P-100. The system was A LOT smaller than I expected...like almost crazy small. I was aware of the dimensions before but seeing it in person was a little shocking.

I had a good conversation with one of the reps about Zombie U. He claimed to be a big Resident Evil fan a was saying that he missed the horror/suspense of the original RE titles but loved the Zombie U demo because it kinda reminded him how scared he would get playing RE. It could be BS but the guy seemed knowledgeable.

I also attended the D.C. one over the weekend. It was pretty nice, but I was a bit miffed that the way they handled the demo stations. There were a lot of people during my timeslot and I was only able to play two games (some Game & Wario and Rayman Legends). I stood behind a couple of guys waiting to play Project P-100, but the staffer let the dude play for like a solid half-hour. Seeing that there were two more people in front of me, I moved on. I also waited in line at Pikmin 3 for 20 minutes but was passed up for the person behind me (who didn't even know what Pikmin was). Not to mention they shut-off our session a half-hour early.

This will sound obvious I suppose but playing on the Wii U pad felt as though I was merely playing with a controller that has a screen on it. It seemsl like Nintendo is pushing it as more than it really is. Almost all the games I played at the event could have just as easily been played without the screen in the controller except for Luigi's Ghost Mansion and even that is debatable. It could just as easily be accomplished via online play.

Fat chance.

The first experience i had with Gamecube and Wii were imported Japanese consoles at Gamestation, christchurch prior to the NZ launch.

Well that sucks, but I guess it's to be expected.

Nintendo Australia doesn't even have an email address to ask them.

Thanks for this; I was in Oni Link's boat with the TBD nonsense.

I would love to hear what you have to say about these titles actually. Its the impressions that count most so post away!
