Old games that deserve a next-gen remake

I definitely agree on Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. They're a great big hole in western fans' experience with the franchise. They would probably have to be more re-tellings of the old games than actual remakes though. The first Metal Gear Solid game basically IS a mechanical remake of MG2. Same general story, but completely different gameplay.

For some reason I imagine it turning out somewhat like Far Cry 3. The basic elements of being put in an open environment with light RPG elements are common between FC3 and the MSX Metal Gear games.

Really though, at the very least MGS fans should go back and play MG2. I still think it's an excellent game that holds up remarkably well 23 years later.

I'd be happy to see almost all the suggestions in here be remade. Feelin' in a remake mood I guess.

I already implied something similar to this in another thread but San Francisco Rush 2049 please. Make the city look like Killzone Shadow Fall.

This please. I will buy at high price .

I could go for remakes of any of the SNES Quintet games, but ActRaiser would indeed be at the top of my list.

Wow, we're in sync, I was thinking "Actraiser, duh" before clicking this thread.

So here's the question:

For the action segments, would you want some kind of hi-res HD 2D side-scrolling like the original (basically just a straight up nicer coat-of-paint) or more God of War/Castlevania:LoS type 3D gameplay (a completely reimagined take on the fighting, making it more involving/deep)?

For the town building sim parts, it would be neat to go full-God mode, like From Dust or something, and control more than just where your subjects build.

Aside from several of the games already posted (I second Bushido Blade, Xenogears and EVO), this baby:

There have been great fan remakes/sequels, but they mostly center around the already known races and gameplay. Surely by now there must be a way to update both to this/next generation's standards. Sure, Mass Effect is a bit like a more serious SC in some regards, but the basic gameplay is completely different and, incidentally, SC's is unlike most games out there.

We also desperately need a new Starfox. DESPERATELY.

So here's the question:

That doesn't sound like Actraiser to me; I don't see the point. Cellotaping a random action game and a God sim together doesn't make it an Actraiser (then again, Actraiser 2 skipped the god sim entirely...).

Baldur's Gate 2. 3D engine, updated ruleset and more skills, especially for melee classes. Why not KoTOR as well while we are at it?

Banjo Kazooie
Xenogears
Bomberman
FFVI, FFVII, FFIX, FFXII

First one is a no brainer. A new Banjo Kazooie game could potentially revive the 3D platformer genre. Xenogears would be a treat, but I doubt we would ever see it. I feel a handheld Bomberman game could potentially take over my life, but again, I don't see this as a favorable market.

Also, they should just remake all Final Fantasys. I chose those because they were the only ones I enjoyed, but everyone has a specific FF that they would want to see. This, or actual making a new FF that has nothing to do with the Fabula Nova Crystallis wutsamawhosits.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil would be a perfect next gen showcase for UE4. It would also be a great throwback FPS.

Perfect Dark 64. The XBLA remake was great but lets see a full on remake with next gen graphics.

Metal Gear Solid 1. This game needs to be remade in HD. Right now the barrier of entry is too high. You are asking people that want to hop into the series to play a game that is almost 15 years old. And you can't properly play the MGS series without playing the first. The entire series is playable in HD aside from the first. Get this done. Its necessary, and it would be an instant cash maker.

Halo 2, but this is probably coming anyway.

Red Faction 1. Loved this game. Do it up with next gen graphics and next gen physics. Would be glorious.

Jade Cocoon! I loved that fusing mechanic as a kid.

Edit: yup, E.V.O. too.

Jade Cocoon / E.V.O. crossover? Now there's a deep game.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Remade with the Awakening engine and Support/Marriage system.

NES:

The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda II: Adventure of Link

SNES:

Super Metroid
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
F-Zero

Game Boy:

Metroid II (done like Zero Mission)

Close Combat the original, one of the first games I ever played and I'd love it to come back with the same concepts (morale, medals for individual soldiers etc) and even keep the topdown look. Just enhance it graphically.

Final Fantasy V to IX
Chrono Trigger
Metal Gear Solid
Phantasy Star I to IV
Grandia 1
Streets of Rage
Skies of Arcadia

Too many more to count
