As a financial investment is the way I'm looking at it. It will garner some support and eventually it will collect dust in the land of forgotten hobbies, the garage.
On top of that what's the point of having the ability to comment on things if all that's going to happen is we sit back and fellate the thing in the OP?
Are you sure "collecting dust," "forgotten hobbies" and "in the garage" is an accurate description describe some of the other things you lumped in with the Oculus and Omni? Kinect and Kinect-like functionality went from peripherals to basic features of two consoles, for example.
"I don't like it." = TOTAL GARBAGE, ABSOLUTELY DOOMED TO FAILURE seems like a bit of a leap.
Never said this, just wondered if you really got such a huge kick out of vocally disliking things.
No I just having a conversation.
I think people saying this is going to great is a stretch you see we are on opposite end of the spectrum. If you look at user data of the move and kinect I think you'd see a different story the incorporation on these things is more of a hope of getting something back in expensive R&D.
I would love if this took off. Anti-social exercising, finally.
I honestly do feel this is more of a novelty whereas the Rift might actually catch on, but the combo of those with something like Skyrim would be enough to make it something I'd really want. Nevermind that the amount of time you spend walking would turn it into great exercise.I'm really of two minds on this. On the one hand, the possibilities are amazing. But on the other hand, unlike the Rift, I'm not sure it can deliver on the expectations. The huge shipping fees to Europe make it easier for me to decide to sit this one out -- for now. Hope I won't regret it.

This seems like a much more expensive version of Kinect, sadly.
Well, I think Skyrim would still work just because it'd be sort of like a VR stroll. But that's why it'd be one of the only games I'd want to keep going back to for, I know I wouldn't want to keep playing TF2 or something this way.Its a cool idea. Just because it "works" doesn't mean it will be a lasting thing you want to use while gaming though. I can see this getting old very fast unless the "walking" really does feel like you are walking and not just doing another series of muscle movements to make the screen move.
Like in Skyrim - this could be mind-blowing for 2 hours or something, then I don't think I'd ever want to do it again instead of just using a controller.
not interested, I mean this type of innovation it's great but I don't really care. I only need good games.

I think this would be incredible with the OR but I will wait for the final retail releases for both as I don't want to pay a good amount of money for "Beta" hardware. I want the early adopters to buy it, test it, and refine it before I start to open my wallet.
Waggle, this thing, oculus rift, it's all the same shit. I want to sit with a controller, period.
Looks like they have a special sole you can nail onto a shoe, so I'd just get a cheap comfortable pair of sneakers for this and call it a day. That must be a fairly small investment relative to the rest of the damn thing. This is pretty interesting. Requiring specialized shoes is my only caveat as I'm very particular about shoes, I can't buy a pair without trying it on first. Not that I would spend money on this, anyway. But still, pretty interesting stuff.
I know this is quite a bump but I didn't know if it warranted a thread. I just saw Omni on NBC's Shark Tank. They bombed. : (
Interestingly Mark Cuban seemed in the know about video games/VR. They used the Occulus Rift in the demo and talked about it a good amount. Pretty interesting.
The sharks brought up some interesting points about the viability of a product like this. I'm really curious whether this will succeed. My guess is no. It will most likely spawn something much more interesting though. Maybe an experience like Laser tag instead of an at home device? Not really sure.
