One thing I can't stand from the anime are the sound effects. Maybe it's because I've heard them all on DBZ already, still I'll get that box set.

Also what's Zoro's situation on the manga what happened after you-know-what.

There are so many OP episodes now, that I dont know where to begin. Do you guys think that they will release some kind of 100-episode boxset(S) on blu-ray?

I personally think that if I would get into such a long series I would want the best production values from the get-go!

I'm sure Japan has/will do something crazy like that eventually

I never watched DBZ so its all new to me :lol

manga spoilers --
Zoro is badly damaged but alive. Chopper is healing him. The manga is now in Thriller Bark wrap-up. Seems like we're getting a Brook flashback next episode.

Someone mentioned Laboon. Did they ever show him again? I liked him. :(

Manga Bark Spoilers--
Laboon is central to the manga arc thats just finishing, Thriller Bark. In fact we're about to get a flashback containing Laboon

Just got two tickets for myself and my brother to see the Alabasta movie tomorrow night at the Royal Palm 20 in Bradenton, FL. I'm so pumped to see OP on the big screen! :D

hmmm...I would be FAR more interested to watch the series on big screen...a marathon of say thriller bark. The movies never live up to the series at all damnit..!

What a fun and interesting experience that was. First, let me start off by recounting my interesting theater experience. I took my brother and my sister along, and we were the only three people in the theater. Not too surprising seeing as how out in the middle of nowhere the theater was, and how little advertising FUNi put into the theatrical release. But I don't think either of those factors had as much to do with the empty theater as this: the film wasn't even listed as One Piece. Up on the marquee, online, and on the ticket, it was listed as simply, "The Desert Princess." And the ticket ripper didn't know anything about it, and had to call for a manager before he'd rip our tickets and let us in. It seemed like I was the only person aside from the manager that knew a One Piece movie was to be screened tonight. Only one way to sum up FUNi's theatrical marketing team, and first US theatrical screening of One Piece: a spectacular failure.

Anyway, onto the fun. The film was a blast for me, since I've only read the Alabasta arc in the manga. Seeing it in color and animated for the first time was simply awesome. Yeah, a lot had to be cut...blah, blah, blah. Most of you are familiar with Movie 8, so moving on. The dub, in all its uncut glory, was terrific. The voices for Croc, Bon Clay, and Vivi were excellent and fit perfectly. Zoro is Zoro, Marine is Marine, Sanji's cigs are in, etc. Also interesting was that the Japanese credits were left completely untouched and were not subtitled. An all around great job on staying true to the source material on FUNi's part.

It's a lot to take in, and I would write more, but I really need some sleep. Late.

a friend of mine just sent me a message telling me the theater that's literally 5 minutes down the street is showing this.

guess i know where i'm going tonight :lol

Wow. After watching some of the 8th movie I don't think there is any doubt left in the Funimation voice actors. I can't wait until the tv show catches up to the point where Luffy and Chopper sound good.

:lol it's not going to happen.

All the Thriller Bark characters sound fine in the anime except Moria. I did not imagine him to sound like a whinny kid. He seemed so much more menancing. This is at Fukurou levels of disappointing and odd

Just got back from Megacon in Orlando, FL. The Funi booth was handing out flyers for "Season One. First Voyage." Says it includes episodes 1-13 on 2 DVDs.

Cool, a step in the right direction. Though not $49.99 cool, as the thought of owning a potentially 600+ episode series at that price makes me cry.

deepdiscount will probably have it around 30-35.

even then, 345 eps means about 800 bucks. and we're almost halfway... sweet jesus

I can't afford all the eventually DVDs. So I'm probably going to hold out for season boxsets that will eventually be sold for a good deal on amazon

So apparently, the 9th One Piece movie has defied expectations and is suppose to be rather good. Plus it has Movie 6 animation!

OH GOD, FILLER IS OVER? When the hell did that happen?!?!?!?! I haven't been watching since the episode where they get Sunny, mostly because I do not like filler. At all. What episode does the show pick up with real story again? I must watch! :D

Edit: Oh my. They've been out of filler territory for a while. Looks like I have some catching up to do! Yesssss! :D :D :D

Now I just need to hope that people are still seeding these at a decent speed... =/

Nah, that is just their costumes from a cover art. It's probably just for the trailer

Should be interesting since it is actually written by Oda for once

Translation by Greg at apforums.net

"For the first time in OP movie history..."

Sengoku: Garp, an 'annoyance' seems to have resurfaced.

Garp: 20 years...Where in the hell's he [she? it?] been hiding out?

Text
"An all new story created by original author Eiichiro Oda!"

Shanks: I didn't think this name was anything more than a legend...

WB: (Sorry, I can't understand his first line perfectly even though it sounds like he's saying, "What's he [she?it?] hiding from me?") He [she?it?] just went and made this interesting!

Luffy: Let's finish this...Golden Lion Shiki!*

Text:
"Spring 2009...A page in the 'The Crystal Ship Log' will open."

EDIT:

The other versions were taken down but here is a subbed version:

So wait, it's written by Oda, it has
Brooks
in it and it seems to have a lot of major world characters.

...Is it canon?

So it turns out that the movie isn't written by Oda, it's just supervised by him. Also he supervised all the other OP movies too. So in other words, it's probably not canon and will just be like the other movies but at least it's not a remake. :\

I think the anime has been progressing too slowly since they left west blue, which was a while ago. So been thinking about getting into the manga, but I can't seem to get myself to do it. To me One Piece is all about the voice acting (which was a lot better until they switched chopper).

Can anyone tell me if it's worth loosing the voice of luffy screaming haaaaraaaheettaaaa & meshiiiiii to switch to the faster story paced manga?

Personally, I only watch the Japanese versions and ALL of the characters sound great. Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, all of them. If you're watching the English dubbed version, then yeah, I'd go the manga route.

2ch thread on it.

Also the last post here about the supervising:

Hmm, well I knew Oda "supervised" all the movies but this is the first he is writing. What evidence does 2ch have that says he isn't really writing this movie?

I find the manga has better pacing

Isn't the official teaser itself stating (and appearantly making a big deal about it being the "first" time in OP movie history) that Oda is writing it?

Yep, plus there are other pieces of evidence that he is writing it (not that you actually need any more).

Cartoon Network canceled One Piece :(

The Toon Zone News website reports that America's Cartoon Network has confirmed that it has no plans to resume airing of the One Piece anime series. According to a representative, the network has aired all the episodes it received and does not plan to repeat them. The network has already filled One Piece's former timeslot with repeat showings of the Bakugan animated series. The One Piece episodes dubbed by Funimation debuted on Cartoon Network on September 29 of last year.

Update: The Bakugan repeats that replaced One Piece have just been replaced by Blue Dragon today. Thanks, Nebs

Really? Because I've read all the way to the chapter 499 and honestly, I don't remember some of those characters. There are a few characters that aren't crew mates now.

The only manga spoiler was Brook....

Finally got around to watching this anime. Seen so much hype for it around here figured I would give it a shot. So far I really like it. Currently on episode 30, :lol Long ways to go yet. As soon as I run out of streaming episodes that are subbed I'll switch over to the manga.

Yeah you have a long long way to go. But you are just reaching the point where One Piece takes off!
