with most of the backlash you're recieving, people are basically saying there's no reason to single shane out. you are still acting like shane is alone in having a bias, when really, everyone in that office has a hardware bias. other offices aren't really going to be that different, either.
I think its because we see and here 1up EGM staff weekly. So we see how extreme some of the bias is. In the end its good to know their opinion because judging their personal review content becomes easier. I do believe Shane tends to take it to the extreme though, like Matt Casasasasasasasasasmasina at IGN with nintendo.

You can almost break down the whole EGM/1up yours/1up show cast/editors by hardware bias. Wait a min, why was this topic made in the first place?

yeah, I picked out Shane since he seems to be the most extreme, but I agree with you that the videogame journalists, in most cases, are not completely neutral. It's a shame. I do like Mark McDonald though! :D

Extreme?? You obviously didn't listen to Garnett last 1up yours podcast.

What the hell do you expect Shane to do anyway? Should he jump on the Halo 3 hype wagon, when he ddoesn't even talk about Resistance and Warhawk favourably, just to appease you? The guy is making enough amends as is. He owns an XBox 360, he owns Bioshock and said he wants to play it, at no point has he said anything negative about that game, and still somehow you guys manage to spin that into more XBox 360 hate. He does not piss on your games.

Flash back to when Ryan Rybicki was pressured to join the "It's just a shooter" mindset by Mr Dan "The weapons are all kinda the same to me" Hsu and the guy that forces himself to grin all the time. You know which game that was.

Hammer that fucking sense of obligation to love the XBox 360 out of your head already.

What the OP said is my main beef with the guy. He is a damn gaming journalist. He should not have any bias if not on a one console centric site like say TXB. I even think he overrates high profile PS3 games. Look at his EGM reviews of Motorstorm and Heavingly Sword. Not saying is review should be the same as his fellow reviews but its like he rated those games higher to make up for them giving them what he considered low scores. He seems way more forgiving of faults in PS3 games. And I think it says a lot when is fellow workers consider shim bias.

lets change the subject.

1up should have a new podcast that features Shane, Parish, and Fitch.
YES YES YES!!! I would so listen to 1UP Nerdchat!!

Though Parish would probably ditch that podcast too and make Black Jesus cry. :(

Welcome to enthusiast journalism. Everyone in the enthusiast press is biassed towards something; it's why they write for that instead of the regular press. If you really think that film, book, or music criticism is that much better than the best of the gaming press, you're really fucking stupid.

I am not sure if it is just me, but I have noticed that Matt Cassamassina is a bit of a nintendo fanboy. He keeps talking about metroid and Zelda. I never see him review xbox games and he rarely previews PS3 games. I can't believe no on has noticed that before. It is so weird.

Do you consider extreme enthusiasts like Shane and whoever else to be best of the gaming press?

He or she can be a "enthusiastic journalist" like you said, but the very enthusiam should be applied to all videogames in general, or at least a specific genre that spreads out in all consoles (i.e. racing sims on the PS3 and the 360). Saying games on a specific console are so-so just because they are on that platform (whether it's PS3, 360, Wii, etc.) is very problematic to credibility of reviews in magazines/sites like the EGM / 1up.

Can you imagine if Assassin's Creed has audio commentary from Jade?
in French and English

At this point that might actually make me buy Assassin's Creed at this point. Totally OT but talk about a game that has slid off my Radar.

i dunno why people can't really grasp this. it's vaguely like supporting sports team or something or believing a specific brand of something is infinitely better. why do people argue about wrestling or nascar of all things. why do people argue about partners, when there are millions out there? what makes them believe this stuff and never challenge their beliefs?

he's had a lot of good memories playing on sony platforms and will go further than your average person to keep defending those, in hopes that the good times return. he'll probably even convince himself that the times he's having now are better than what they really are, just to keep proving it to himself.

probably every person on this board does this to some extent.

Jeff Green had a fairly interesting dicussion of review crediblity or lack thereof on GFW's podcast this week. Kind of made me wish he was running EGM and not Shane.

Shane sounds like a cool dude, but at times he also just seems like such an Otaku Fanboy I wonder about his cred.

Well... I'd rather have biased people then homogenized and strictly objectified views. That's what makes 1UP Yours so goddamn good, different views on things. That and PEINS JOKES!

:lol :lol I already made that point, thing is matt reviews only Nintendo games.

The best part about these threads, like Che pointed out, is that it proves that on some level, Ziff Davis Media is doing something right. The amount of discussion and chatter their shows generate on a handful of forums on the Internet nearly justifies its "push personalities" approach.

Like I've said before, when people rail on Garnett for being semi-nonsensical, in most cases it's simply because he's stoking the fires for discussion on the show and inevitably discussions on the Internet that will ensue. Shane, similarly, does exactly the same thing with his support of Sony, sure he has preferences, just like everyone does -- but those preferences in both Shane and Garnett's cases are likely exaggerated for public consumption to drive message board discussions, water cooler chatter, and most importantly downloads.

The more downloads a show gets, the more likely advertisers are to support the shows, et cetera. Sorry to lift some of the veil here, but it's a bit excessive -- I joke about ShaneWatch semi-regularly, and do think he has a tendency of getting pulled in by hype and then semi-inventing megatons that he can later back slowly away from, but ultimately, 1UP Yours is simply about being entertaining. Think of it like Howard Stern, instead of the News Hour with Jim Lehrer.

Sometimes the fourth wall needs to just be pulled down.

Luke's right. So I say we talk about IGN's staff!

....uh.....Kathleen used to work there. ....and uh...they have a dude named Hilary....and uh....

Minnie is a really cute dog.

Way to totally bring me down, Luke.

God, it's like learning that the tooth fairy is your fucking dad; you don't know whether to be upset that a part of your childhood is dead, or glad that you never woke up to see your dad in a fairy outfit. :(

I'm all for those guys being overly-enthusiastic for "shows" like 1upyours and playing up the hype or whatever, but if they bring the samething when they're reviewing games, that's not ideal.

Re. Garnett, I think he does try to play the "other side" of Shane during the show by pushing the 360, but he shows his love for Playstation games like GT5 Prologue and FFXII...

Actually he does talk up Warhawk.

You mean... The Media manipulates the public to gain more attention and to get more readers? Even if said manipulation is slightly dishonest?

I AM SHOCKED SHOCKED!

Now, where did I put my can of Game Fuel?
