Ono: Support for Street Fighter V planned up to 2020

So you wanted Capcom to drop the game entirely & immediately start on SFVI?

You don't need to drop the game to start on SF6 but if I were calling the shots I would be working on a reboot, be it SF6, SFA4 or whatever, yes. SFV is never going to be what they hoped it would be and they are probably going to lose more players/revenue than they stand to gain over the next... 3 yrs. Four year legs for a fighter is whatever, I just hope they are working on the future while adding their expensive DLC packs to the current game.

Also, starting on SF6 doesn't mean the small group that will enjoy SFV for the next few years can't play or that the game can't be featured in tournaments. I just think being stubborn and sticking to your broken guns is a bad idea, which is par for the course w/ this company. The ship isn't going to turn around. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you want to continue to enjoy SF for a long time then you should want it to be not only successful but constantly growing the playerbase; SFV was and is a failure on so many levels in those regards, and it wouldn't surprise me to see SF6 get put on long term hiatus after Capcom says something silly like "we tried and nobody bought SFV, guess you don't like fighting games so we won't make them." We already know Darkstalkers got axed and we haven't seen/heard about any other Capcom fighters since the negative reception to SFV, and it's probably got a lot to due with self-inflicted brand damage. I bought every SF game but SFV was the last Capcom game I will ever buy before trying the full version.

People saying that SFV is dying, and it is the most played and viewed fighting game right now.
Capcom dropping the game to make SVI.

This thread is pure gold.

Sony partnership/sponsorship/prize money/having the most organized "pro" presence (not saying much imo) have a lot to do w/ the viewership. Also pretty character models. The game isn't selling, regardless of your fascination with -- of all things -- viewership.

Any news or info about a QoL patch ??

I don't care about new content, all I want is Capcom to improve loading times, UI & menus, working stats, add region filters for rooms, add social features ( voice chat ? )... there are so many little things they could do to improve the users quality of life.

This is the kind of thing they are probably not going to do, because it would actually make the overall product more appealing. They should've put the DLC stages on hold and fixed this shit right away, but priorities included stages they knew would be banned and costumes that make characters unrecognizable.

Those games just had one "season". SF5 won't reach the "full game" status until support ends which could be 2020 according to this news.
Those games had two seasons. Injustice to a lesser extent since the second season only consisted of 2 characters, so it was more like an additional set of content.

But owners of one can play with the other.

Which is what many ask. They can release versions of the game with everything, while still supporting the day one release.

Their mistake with SFIV and Super was that you were forced to buy Super to get the new characters and content. Something that one can hope they don't do again.

Yeah, the netcode is not bad at all. They need to fix lobbies, one-sided rollback and matchmaking, but the netcode itself is solid.

"Get out of my way, giants; i cant see the windmills!!1"

Anywho, is the clown who ordered the rootkitting of the pc version scrubbing toilets at Capcpom and a serious reworking of the backend in order? This news is only confirming what we already know.

This is optimistic. SFV hasn't set the world on fire, nor does it seem to have a long tail of purchases.

My suspicion is that Capcom will attempt to re-energize support with a re-release ala SSF4. If that does not work, then it'll be quickly forgotten about some time next year with maybe a final content or balance patch.

Is it? GAF has threads at least monthly since launch about how dead this game is. People were even doubting we'd get a season 2.

I honestly hope they can arrange something with Sony so they can put it on more platforms, that'd help a lot and the truth is no one expected it to bomb like this. And no, I'm not port begging, it's my GOTY and it's already on my platform of choice.

Do you really think a late port will do anything? It would be lucky if it sold 300k on Xbox and it will do nothing but segregate the user base.

This is another big issue. If I recall, Sony isn't too keen on PS4-XB1 cross-play. If anyone, the Switch may have a better shot at such cross-play, but that still leaves the issue of Nintendo convincing Sony to let them have SFV on the Switch (though it would be an interesting way to cash in on Ryu in Smash 4).

In short, while Nintendo would have a better shot at convincing Sony to let them have SFV, I'm not expecting SFV to leave PS4/PC/Arcade for the rest of its 5+ year life.

PS4 and PC have cross-play and that one would need it, too. But there's no way of it happening.

Sony isn't keen on crossplay with the XB1 because they're the winning console this generation. Last generation they talked about being open to crossplay while Microsoft wasn't.

I originally bought a PS4 because I primarily play videogames to play fighting games and the likelihood that the majority of fighting games would appear on a Sony system was a no brainer. I eventually got an XB1 to play with my friends in FPSes and the like, a purchase I wouldn't have made if PS4+XB1 crossplay was a thing. I imagine there's a ton of people who are forced into buying a console they don't prefer because they want to play with their friends and since PS4 is handily outselling the XB1, there's higher probability that one's friends own a PS4 rather than an XB1.

So the same thing would apply to the Switch but on top of all this is how extremely conservative Nintendo is as a gaming company. If this generation somehow becomes the generation where consoles can crossplay with each other in a majority of online games I expect Nintendo to join them sometime in 2030.

If Capcom actually adheres to their long-term support, I hope they'll at least launch another re-release of the title with all the DLC bundled on the disc. Got a bit burnt out on the umpteenth repackaging with the previous installment, but I'll gladly hold for the final revision once it comes to fruition and I guess it's nice to know the ballpark of when it might actually become a thing.

Just bought it yesterday thanks to the sales on PSN currently so I like what I'm reading (and now I need awful lot practice lol).

Nonstop huh? Scorchedearthing? Support each other? Last time I check Street Fighter players are the ones who refuse to play other fighting games, not the other way around. The genre has plenty of other good fighting games product by developers that don't constantly fuck over their player base. Why don't you try supporting them sometime? BTW I support my local scene almost every week by going to sessions and help training newer players, do you?

The struggle sounds real my friend.

Who knows, SFIV sold a million copies on 3DS. I don't think it would hurt to put this on XB1 and Switch at all.

Nintendo has already talked about cross platform gameplay and some Wii, Wii U and 3DS games alowed it. They don't gave a problem with it.

But is the kind of thing that is always up to the publisher and the other platforms. Heck, there are SCE and Microsoft related games on Nintendo platforms even. So ties to the "competition" don't seem to be a problem either.

It's amazing how people completely ignore that Sony paid for this.

Yeah ports to other systems are totally gonna happen.

That was SF4 look at how much hate SFV is getting if anyone is willing to buy SFV on Xone or switch it's the dedicated fighting games fans (i think most of them are on ps4 this gen) i just don't see the port being justified.

This is good news. Hopefully we get more sexy girls like Elena and Blair.
Also hope they fix lobbies too. I want to be able to search by connection quality and make my own lobby title.

History has shown that paying for something and even working on it means nothing.

Nintendo paid and helped in the Ninja Gaiden III RE content for Wii U... that then made it to 360 and PS3.

Nintendo also funded and worked Lego City Undercover on Wii U... which was just announced for PS4, XBO and Switch.

So who knows about their contract stipulations. More in this case were Sony partially funded this game, not completely.

This isn't a Bayonetta 2 situation otherwise it wouldn't be on the PC. It's safe to say Capcom also has a huge amount of control over the game. Xbox one is out of the question but 3ds, Mobile...and some other non direct competitor can happen.

Microsoft paid for Rise of the Tomb Raider, that game still eventually came to PS4. It can definitely still happen.

Microsoft didn't pay for Tomb Raider.

“One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox,” said the representative. “But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.”

Seems pretty clear.

No, that doesn't mean they can call it Super/Omega/Ultra SF5 and just put it on Xbox.

Seems exactly like Bayonetta 2 to me.

Except Capcom has already came and out said it won't be on other consoles. Square said before it came out on Xbox it would come to other platforms.

Just like when Capcom said RE4 would never come out on any console other than Gamecube?

Edit: beaten

Mikami =/= Capcom

Also hilarious that, even given everything capcom has said about this particular game, we have to get a quote 14 years old to say THERE'S A CHANCE.
