Opinion: Why the PS4 controller is better than the Xbox One controller

I think the sticks being further apart should help with a lot of the complaints (thumbs rubbing together).

I honestly have never had a problem switching between controllers and I really think hardcore gamers shouldn't have a problem adapting.
This is the smart, sensible answer. I think both controllers will be amazing but with this being a full blown console war on our hands lines and hyperbole will be drawn.

To me the xbone controller is more like the type s which i absolutely loved!.

Used to it? PS2 sold over 150m units. PS1 with the Dual Shock sold a ton. We've been used to it far before the Xbox even came into the picture. Let's make that clear.

Sure, but there are a lot of Xbox centric folks who seem to think offset sticks are factually better, and that is utter nonsense.

It's just a matter of using the dual shock enough and then you never even think about it. Now the 360 controller felt more solid, and the DS3 had those silly rounded tips on the sticks, so those were clear problems before. All reports on the DS3 suggest those problems are gone.

Do we need a thread about every single opinion someone might have, Couldn't this have gone in one of the 300 other 'DS4 is the best pad I've never used' threads?

Stop the thread whining. If people feel this isn't worth discussing then it will fall off the front page quick.

I think these controller impressions are great to read.

I'd be careful there dude. Thread whining is bannable...

According to Totalbiscuit the analogue sticks are better on the DS4 due to the XB1 analogues causing friction burns. However he also said the triggers on the XB1 controller were better than DS4.

I like the touchpad on the PS4 controller. From what I hear about Assassin's Creed 4 using it to navigate and zoom the map is a pretty natural use for it. Glad they fixed the dpad on the Xbone controller. The 360 dpad was beyond useless.

That's how i feeling, sometimes i think that i'm a super player or something, because i see the people complain about asymmetric, symmetric, etc... and i'm perfect fine changing from a controller to another.

I know there were a few 360 type controllers made for the PS3, so how long until 3rd party Xbox One style controllers are made to be used with the PS4? Or will the touch pad feature prevent something like that happening?

Ps gamepads have a big problem... ANALOG POSITION! That's it.

And that didn't change, so it's not better than a Xbox's gamepad

Take a look at the controller the analog sticks are not in the same position as the DS3 & saying that it's in the wrong place is something that's in people's heads because if you can use both analog sticks on the Xbox controller with no problem then what's stopping you from using the analog sticks on the DS4?

are you saying that it's good for your right thumb but your left thumb has to be in a different position for you to play a game?

I'm sure the xbox one controller is fine and at least as good as 360s ergonomically speaking. I think the 360 controller is a better looking controller though and why they felt the need the change it makes little sense beyond a marketing perspective.

I wish this post was sarcastic. xD
lol

I agree but my main point is we've "put up" with the DS's stick layout and been fine with it for years. It's continued to be fine right through PS4. The main problems I had with the DS3 are the form factor and triggers. Those seem to be fixed. I do wish they used the Vita d-pad but the PS D-pad has always been solid.

Like most, I haven't held either, so I can't offer any real opinion on which is better... but seeing as the DS4 is the one that has it's analogue sticks both in the correct place I can easily see this opinion being on the money.

internet negativity mass hysteria. happens all the time.

I guess.
It's surely happened but those were late additions due to the market reacting negatively to their BS. Credit where credit is due but no one forgets the incompetence that preceeded such moves when Sony and even Nintendo had their act together in both regards (Sony) and some regards (Nintendo).

I don't agree. I've been hearing this from a couple of devs before the platforms were even announced and now we're seeing the media and consumer comment on it. I've heard positives about Xbone's controller as well though. The 360 pad is my go to pad on PC but if Sony makes the DS4 work the PC and it gets native support, I may switch.

Oh, definitely. MS' smart decisions were mostly just gifts to try to stem the flow of negativity.

You don't? A lot of people seem to be praising a lot of features on the Xbone controller, especially in regards to the rumble in the triggers and the improved d-pad.

I don't agree in whole. I agree with parts of what you said. I like the new d-pad. The rumble is subjective but I'd rather have the improvement than not.

light bar and speaker isn't a real control feature. Xb controller has a infra red sensor as well but that does nothing for actual control functions.

If people want to toss rumble as a bulletpoint for the Xbone pad than the light bar and speaker is absolutely something that is unique to the DS4 alongside the unique touch pad.

Ah. I'm not arguing from experience on either controller; truth be told I'm worried I'm not gonna like the DS4 as much as the DS3, which I'm very used to.

If there really are outstanding amounts of complaints vs the Xbox One controller, Microsoft will 180 into a new one like the Duke -> S.

Yep, I've literally never understood what all the bellyache about stick positions is. Always kind of struck me as inventing reasons to justify entirely subjective preferences.

The thumb pads are smaller? I didn't know that. not sure how I feel about that.
They are smaller, but they are lower down and further apart and then you have to factor in the considerably longer grip. Try not to compare it with the dualshock 3 too much.

if that makes you feel better... not a big deal really.

I want to believe the hype. I favored my 360 for this entire gen, right up until a few months ago. Now I've switched to my PS3 in anticipation of PS4, and I cannot get used to the controller when playing FPS. Giving me BF3 in PS+ was a waste, because I just can't do it. Mostly it's the sticks, but I don't know if it's their positioning or their resistance or some other factor.

I definitely want to go PS4 for my primary console next gen, but the controller is the great unknown. I'm optimistic that Sony has done as great of job as everyone keeps saying, but this sort of thing is so subjective. I'm secretly sort of hoping someone just comes out with an adaptor that lets me use a 360 controller on the PS4.

I've yet to try out both controllers, but the DS4 does look like it has a good grip to it. The more reboust handles make it natural to place the hand on a lower position so that the tumbs naturally rest on the analog sticks.

The X1 controller looks like it will retain the same feeling that the X360 had (which is good), but my main problem is that you can't have a good grip because the handle are too far below the analog sticks. I am curious to try out the new rumble on the triggers

Doubtful. That controller looks amazing and an improvement in almost every conceivable way. The only reason you could possibly not like the DS4 would really be stick placement.

Wouldn't doubt that, although I've read impressions saying the 360's triggers > XB1 triggers, as the XB1's are much more shallow

Oh, I'm sure I'll like it, just got those what-if fears. :p
