It is exactly how opinions work. I give mine, and you give yours. If you don't agree with my opinion, you can provide a counterexample.
You can say, "I disagree, I don't enjoy the gameplay in Super Mario 3D World, because the difficulty curve ramps up too slowly for experienced gamers, causing many to lose interest before the game provides any real challenge." And I'd be forced to concede to your point (although I'd still encourage you to play beyond world 6, and especially beyond the credits).
Or you can stomp your feet and declare that my post should not be allowed.
I'm sorry if my post struck a nerve. Obviously it contained some hyperbole, and obviously not all people who don't enjoy Nintendo games play CoD. Not that there is anything wrong with CoD, or any other annualized game series that recycles its formula year after year. The formula works; that's why they keep making them and people keep buying them. I enjoy cinematic games also, but I cannot think of any where concessions aren't made to the gameplay in service of telling a story.
If you disagree with my opinion and think that people who don't like Nintendo games dislike them for a reason other than aesthetics, please feel free to say so.
I'll bite. To give a general idea of my tastes I'll list some stuff I like off the top of my head -
AAA Tier: Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, The Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus, Persona 4, Metal Gear Solid 1-3, Hotline Miami, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Metroid.
A Tier: Transistor, Persona 3, Sonic Generations, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, ICO, Ocarina of Time, Ace Attorney Series, Ghost Trick, Super Meat Boy.
And of course a million other games I'm forgetting. These are all off the top of my head (though I do try to keep the top 5 fresh in my mind).
Nintendo doesn't really fit my tastes in most cases. My main complaint is that their games very, very rarely have any sort of depth to them beyond gameplay. When I beat a Nintendo game, it's over. There's nothing to think about while I'm doing random stuff at work or meaningful discussions to have with my friends and other people online. The games can be pretty, but there's little to grab me intellectually. Hyrule is a complete joke compared to Boletaria and Lordran. The stories in the last three Zelda games were straight up bad. Mario is boring and I don't care for the characters/universe (gameplay doesn't do it for me either). Not interested in Pikmin, I hated Zelda SS and thought ALBW was mediocre, Metroid and F-Zero are dead, I don't like Bayonetta's aesthetic, Hyrule Warriors' story looks juvenile as fuck and the gameplay looks dull, I already played DKCR and TF looks like an expansion pack I don't need, and... well off the top of my head those are the only games I can think of that are going to be out soon or just came out.
Of course, there are exceptions. KI:U was incredible. Challenging, engaging gameplay, great story with fun characters, and a good online mode. Ocarina of Time and Super a Metroid are classics. I'm excited for X and cautiously optimistic about Zelda U. Other than that though nothing else catches my eye. Bloodborne and MGSV have all of my attention.
