Does Wii U Watch_Dogs actually exist? Lol. That game doesn't deserve any awards! Sword & Soldiers is a port of a game from 2009, so I don't think it belong on any 2014 lists personally.
If you include certain genre's its almost cheating since they rarely see released outside of PC.
I do think this year has been a bit of a turd and Nintendo have done the best job of getting decent exclusives out in 2014.

Best console in 2014? I doubt it. Best second system for this gen? Easily. See, i never owned Nin systems before, even DS/3DS was too expensive for me (it costly to own 3DS here in Russia to be honest), Gamecube was't legally avaliable and Wii was just not my bowl of japanese rice.
But this gen - it's all different. Nin opened Russian HQ, Wii U is avaliable in retail and (finally) i have no problems with retail games and prices. Xbone on the other hand was too... meaningful after PS4 purchase. Without much fo the details i just dont like it. I've tried, really, to love XBO because last gen i've owned 360 and PS3. And in PS2 era i think i was the only freak with FIRST XBOX in my city.
So, well, on weekend that purchase happened
And now i'm very pleased with Wii U. I've remotely hated this console since launch, thought it was a throwaway gimmick and finally get a chance to experience it last week. And really fall in love with the controller, strong and consistent concept and overall experience after brief 10 minutes. Wii U is very charming. Now, when i own both Wii U and PS4, i think this gen is fully set for me. Both consoles delivers great games, but Wii U is so much interesting and different that i can't be happy more to own it. Wii U (IMHO) is the perfect pair for conservative PS4 or, well, XBO. Nothing more, but nothing less.

There's also a great price, it's the cheapest of all the consoles, you can easily get one refurbished right now for $200, and you'll probably be able to get one brand new for that price on black Friday. For just simply the amount of content, games and price, I believe it's a must have. Let's also not forget you won't play another dime to play online and that it's the only console that is backwards compatible and the Wii has some amazing games as well

If I didn't have a PS4 this year yet, I'll be missing out on Destiny (for example), but then again I really wouldn't be missing out on anything. But if I didn't have a Wii U, then I'll REALLY feel like I'm missing out on something. Granted I know there's some great games for PS4 next year, I'm not putting it down or anything. But as of now I think Wii U has the best software, and the best killer apps for this year, I don't see anything this year bigger than Smash Bros in sight, and the future line up looks just as exciting. PS: Also, I am specifically talking about this gen, including Wii U, PS4 and Xbone. Again, as far as price, games available, the quality of those titles, and exclusives; I definitely think Wii U takes the cake in those regards as best bang for your buck. All the games released already and those still coming this year make it quite the library, and next year's games look just as good, so there's things to be excited for beyond this year. The fact that all these games can only be played on this console (all pretty much exceptional exclusives) also says a lot, and regardless of whether or not these are your types of games, no one can deny the quality and greatness of these games. Of course, as I already pointed out, if these are not your type of games and do nothing for you then that's understandable and you just simply have a different taste. But as far as thinking with no bias, or fanboyism, and no preference of console, I think that price + games + quality + exclusives = great buy. All of course, my opinion, and I understand and have no problem if you disagree and I understand if Nintendo games are not for you

Well, he just mentioned console titles and from the post he quoted (and considering that most websites only mention console racers in their racing categories) I just mentioned console racing games.
That being said, I would love seeing Joe Danger winning every racing category since it's a fine game from what I've seen and played. But we both know how things go on these websites; I expect neither Joe Danger nor MK8 to win many awards, maybe even none at all. It's just how things are.

1. 2014 Action Game of the Year: I can easily see Dark Souls 2 here.
2014 Racing Game of the Year: I don't like Racing games...but Mario Kart is more a "party game" than a racing game nowadays.
2014 Platform Game of the Year: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (WiiU). Even I think that's true they will give it to Mario 3D World because of MARIO.
2014 Fighting Game of the Year: Super Smash Bros. U (Wii U). I can see that happening.
2014 Puzzle Game of the Year: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U). A 2015 game...yeah.
2014 Indie Game of the Year: Shovel Knight (Wii U/3DS/PC). No fucking idea. I don't play indie.
2014 GAME OF THE YEAR: (any of the above games for the Wii U) I can see COD, Dark Souls, Dragon Age Inquisition or even Watchdogs here.

Except I'm serious. It's a good game but the server issues detract and only add fuel to those who were never going to play it in the first place. Of course in a perfect world, Danganronpa 2 would win GotY.
They should give that puzzle game of the year to Pushmo/Pullblox World anyway.
Super Mario 3D World was 2013 and Captain Toad is confirmed 2014 in America (and Japan too, I think).

I am buying a WiiU for my 14 year old daughter this Christmas. She has been begging for a laptop since my son got his earlier this year but a few weeks ago she decided she wanted a WiiU instead. She wants SSB and Windwaker HD. Probably get SMB World too. Does anyone know if your virtual console games bought on the Wii transfer over to the WiiU?

Since there's so many of them, they should agree to give a GOTY award to every game released, so no one would complain.
They do, but you need to physically connect the Wii and Wii U together in order to do the transfer process.
Everything you transfer is playable on Wii Mode on the Wii U, but only selected NES and SNES games are available for upgrade to Wii U mode for a small fee ($1.00 for NES, $1.50 for SNES). Wii U mode allows for off-screen play through the Gamepad and Miiverse posting (which allows for taking screenshots) as well as extra emulator features like save states and control configuration.
It's even better for late adopters like myself.
I just ordered one and i'm getting:
- Super Mario Bros + Luigi Bros
- Zombie U
- Mario Kart 8
- Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
- Bayonetta 1 & 2
- Mario 3D World
and later on I'll have Smash to add to the mix. And these are games I've really wanted to play and know I'll love.

Not really. We are talking about reviews from publications. The average of 53 reviews is a better indication than the one with 3 reviews. In getting stats, we throw away figures that have small sample sizes and there's always a minimum number of scores before an average is considered valid. This is done in MLB, NBA, NHL and basically anywhere.

Let's take a 'serious' look at the Gamerankings top 20 for 2014, filtered for games with at least 20 reviews (the max selectable). Might as well if we're pretending it matters.

Well, that's a pretty clear landslide for one of the consoles.

That all depends on what one wants from a racer. I would say that both DC and FH2 are better racing games because I am personally not enamored with Kart racers. So while you can continue to think whatever you want to think, as is your right, I will absolutely make the claim that such a determination is narrow - minded.
Isn't it narrow-minded to say that FH2 is better simply because it meets your personal preferences? It might be better for you to play, but is it better on a broader scale, achieving what it set out to be?
btw i don't think mk8 is all that great and i haven't played fh2

Well that's what I wondered, because an "all games" search returns titles on the WiiU like Shovel Knight and Guacamelee which presumably "still count" even if the reviews displayed aren't for that SKU.
Why would Guacamelee count? It launched as a PS3/Vita game.
