Orioto art thread - New VG wall every thursday!

Awesome! I'm glad you're selling it for a whole month, that way I have all month to save up enough extra cash to buy it. School's starting up soon, so I have a lot of expenses coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Haha i'm not really comfortable with the idea that someone as to save for my work. I'm sorry i cannot make it less expensive!

MY WALLET IS READY.

Any idea what sizes it'll be available in?

Same as usual

As it's a widescreen print this time. There will be photographic, poster, canvas, mounted and framed versions available.

I hope you're not the two only one interested mah god :p I'm totally freakin' out about all that. This will be a nightmare.

Yeah, that wouldn't bode well for the other two, I imagine.

Out of curiosity, how many sales do you have to turn to feel that the time investment is worthwhile? Especially considering this thing looks like it took you over a month.

It took me roughly 100 hours, i think. But especially i didn't do other art for the whole 2 last month.
The sonic piece gave me 140 euros of profit, and this one won't gave me as much, that's certain.

Anyway the money i get from the prints is never ever worthwhile the time i spend on it. It's not even close :p

I'm just driving my life realllly badly lol.
This is just not working at all. At least i cannot spend so much time on a piece.

That is unfortunate. While I hope you do the others in the set, I understand if it's not possible. I think it's fantastic and would love to own the set of three. I think they would look great together.

I wish I knew what else to suggest. Sorry.

At least i hope nobody avoid buying this one cause they are not sure to have the rest lol. Cause it would be worse.

And i hope guys who came to me when i wanted to stop will be there! I should have stop this one honestly and i went on cause i felt it was really important for some people.
Not that everyone has to buy it, you only buy it if you like it. The whole fresco is something pretty special with lots of things on it!

Last one :)

Poster for sale later tonight! (You'll see it then) For one month.
Please, spread the word :)

Oh my GOD that looks fantastic... true art right there.

Nice guys thx! I hope it'll sell decently.

At least that's already a joy and a big relief that the whole thing isn't rejected as an horrible unbalanced monster! Aesthetically speaking, that was a bold and risky project :p

It's been a long time since i've been featured on a big site :)

Destructoid article on the FFVI fresco

By the way only one week left for the Yoshi art.

And also.. something i was thinking about. There is one month for the FFVI fresco, but just in case SE hears about it or something, you never know.. Don't wait too long lol. I don't think there are real legal reasons to do anything but in those cases it's just the big guy asking redbubble to remove it and rb don't ask questions, whatever it's justified or not.

How's the sales so far? Has the increased visibility helped any?

Well i'm not sure Destructoid brings that many views actually. I remember when they talked about my Metroid pieces.

They're linking to deviantart and the views there didn't really changed that much.

But the sales are ok for now. Oh it won't be crazy but it's above my average art.
11 sold so far i believe but lot of people saying they will buy one.

Looks fantastic. I'm definitely buying one as soon as I figure out what kind I want...

You for example :p

Haha... I'm trying to decide between an extra large canvas print and an extra large photographic print to then frame myself. I actually prefer the look of canvas, but I'm more worried about how well it'll hold up after years and multiple moving trips. With a framed piece I can always just easily replace anything that might get damaged.

People don't really know that but actually i do 200% more margin on the canvas or frame you buy directly from Redbubble :) I take a part of the final price.

Jesus man, that FFVI work is incredible! FFVI is still my 2nd favorite RPG of all time and I love your vision of it. I will definitely be grabbing one once I get some extra cash.

So will there be two more pieces or is this the only piece we'll see for FFVI?

Also you might consider doing something like the small prints Olly Moss did for video game heroes a little while ago. I would love to have little 5x5 or whatever of individual scenes from FFVI in the same style as the frescoes. I think individual frames/scenes in the more cartoon-y style you use for the frescoes would be pretty appealing.

Good to know. I was curious myself when I was deciding between a print and other options.

Well, it's going well, even if i will never make enough money to justify the time it takes. I think i'll try to do the two other nes, but i'll have to be more quick and try to do something else in the same time cause i need regular new art and two month with just that is just really bad lol. I was hoping the yoshi art would bring me some easy money but it's not selling, weirdly!

Also, it's clear that if i do the rest now, people won't have money to buy it if they already bought this one, and this is the exact same audience. So i'll probably make the rest later, in several month! And the second part will sell less maybe cause it's the middle of the game and has less known scenes, more action.

But anyway i'll do lots of simpler one before that, and the Mario Bros 3 should sell i hope!

Oh about the smaller individual prints, i didn't find a way to sell 5" inexpensive prints yet.. Mini size on red bubble is 12", or it's postcards.

I'm glad you're considering finishing up the set.

Staggering it is probably the best for your income stream and work load, as well.

In that case, I'm glad I went with the size class I did, that'll give me enough wall space to add the other two whenever you finish those.

But don't be too impatient :)

Of course, take your time. I'm just happy you're doing them.

Edit: I did not mean to appear pushy or impatient or anything, just thankful. I apologize if so.

I'm definitely interested in buying some prints, I'm just torn on whether I want to go the poster route or the print (canvas) route. :)

Heu wow i would have sworn (sworn ?? anyway..) i already answered to your post lol.. Bug ?

Anyway, people seem to like the canvas thing. I never saw it with my eyes.

And the new fresco in on the road.

I'm really trying to emphasize on the theatrical aspect of the game. It's nice to have a gimmick for the art direction.

And some Luigi love

tumblr_mr2tw1CvCB1qdq8qno1_1280.jpg

Also the FFVI fresco has been breaking some records for me. I've sold 45 for now (against 12 for the sonic fresco for comparison lol). It's nice, i should do more of it, if i can manage to do that faster lol, cause that's still not profitable.

Also, i'm pretty honored to do the poster for a french concert of Hitoshi Sakimoto san :p

It's just for the event!

Also by the way guys, i know you don't like to post in there and all but when i do a fresco like that, this is the perfect time to actually tell me if there are important things you would like in it, that i shouldn't miss, like some special moment in the game.

I should stop this one to ?
You know if i had to rely on gaf reaction to finish a work i would never finish anything.

You're in part why i barely stopped the FFVI fresco. There is really nothing good for me there... How depressing and unmotivating GAF has been over the years, i swear..

And now that i'm whinning people will come to say how much they love me or they hate me, cause they actually read the thread, and then i'll continue to post my work in complete solitude the day after..

I always wanted to see your vision for this screen (in a similiar style like your yoshis island, super mario world and secret of mana).

I do like your work, a lot. I have bought a few pieces from the rb and look forward to the work you continue to do.

I am not, however, capable of offering very constructive criticism or acclaim as I am not terribly great with art. I do not know or have the breadth of knowledge or ability to be helpful in that regard, I don't think.

I trust your judgement in putting your pieces together, because I like the composition and designs at the end of the day for practically every one of them. For what it's worth, I like the Mario 3 stuff so far. I imagine you'll choose key scenes on your own. You've shown a good penchant for capturing the key essence of each world so far.

I do not get a chance to read this thread every day. I do not know what to add in many cases, and thus won't post if it isn't constructive. Know that you have a fan in me, but please don't assume that silence is akin to either ignoring the work, not being appreciative, or otherwise.

Lol, this perfectly sums up Gaf..
Not giving a shit about what i said or what i'm doing now and asking for something else. Not even following me or knowing i just did a fucking giant FFVI picture... Cause of course the whole gaf FFVI community was totally not there when i was talking about it every day and probably doesn't even know about it.

That's the thing, what's the point in me trying to build something with that community anyway..

I respect your reasons but in the end i'm doing a MB3 art and i've got zero people interested on a massive videogame borad like Neogaf. Zero, not one people saying "oh cool i'm looking forward to it" or "i'm a big fan of the game, try to not forget about the whistle warp zone". Or simply, "i like how it looks, looking forward to the end result". So what's the point, except putting me in a position where i have to think "ok this is all right, nobody comment on my work but i have to assume they are really looking into it and continue".

Again, the FFVI fresco would have never ever be finished if it was only for gaf reactions, and i think when there is a FFVI thread appearing, there is a pretty vivid community posting in it.

It's like people assume i'm some kind of special people posting there as a commercial of some type or i represent someone and you just read the news like a feed. But hey, GAF the only point in being there is to interact with you, or there is absolutely no point at all. I'm there to communicate with videogame fans.

These are my sentiments as well. I read every post in this thread, and I'm a fan of every piece I've seen in this thread. Like you, I don't really know much about discussing art, so I don't post unless I actually have something to add.

I'll probably purchase the Mario 3 fresco, at the very least in poster form. It's my favorite Mario game.

GAF is a huge place, worthy threads sink all the time, and shit threads can be bumped for days on end. Trying to capture the interests of thousands of people when something moves as fast as it does here is not only difficult, but when it fails to happen, taking it personally is unfair to both you and to the forum going community at large.

I am unsure what other reactions you get, or where else you post your work and get better feedback on it. Those communities sound like better outlets for constructive criticism than GAF appears to be. If that is the case, perhaps it is best not to dwell overly on the lack of GAF responses sometimes, but to be particularly proud of the times you do get lots of praise for your work. The reactions in this thread to the FF6 piece, while maybe not as numerous as you hoped, were pretty unanimous in their positive opinions.

You were 95% of the answers i had on the FFVI thread, and see, you're again almost the only guy posting now. 99% of gaf just ignores me, so i should indeed just stop posting there. That's a place i liked pretty much for some years and i's sad cause i tried to build some connection but they don't seem to like me.

I discovered this thread (and therefore your art) last week, subscribed right away, skimmed through the pages, checked out your deviantart page, and totally dig your art.

Now I see you're doing a Super Mario Bros 3, one of my favourite games ever, piece in the same vein as the Final Fantasy one (which looked good, but not being a FF fan I can't relate to the scenes). I really can't wait to see what it turns out like.

I really hope you can incorporate every suit (don't forget the goomba shoe!) into the scenes, as well as other various Mario 3 icons like: The white block and warp whistle, the coin ship or white mushroom house, the koopa kids ships or the Koopa kids themselves. The little dudes that throw wrenches. Also The final scene with Bowser.. It was such a high moment for me as a kid I still remember to this day.

I'm not sure if that's the kind of feedback you're looking for right now, but don't give up. I'm definitely picking this piece up and possibly one for my little nephew's room as well.

I feel bad... Sigh.

What other forums do you post your work in progress at? I need to know where to go to create an account and start following there.
