Orioto art thread - New VG wall every thursday!

Hmm, that's nice of you Raging but this time i clearly went for an illustration more than a game mockup, or i would have contrast it like i usually do :D

My art is progressively moving toward a more concept art/illustration approach with the time actually. But you can look at my past picture and you'll see that i know how to make it contrasted and 'playable" when it's needed :)

But i'm sorry you took some time to do that ! Thx anyway !

Hey no prob, you should probably give us your thought process on these pieces beforehand ;) I do like the Ashley Wood influence though, its well done.

Yeah, I felt the Ashley Wood as well. And since Konami worked with Wood before (Metal Gear Solid comics), it made me :D .

As for my thought process, yess but in this case it was just a little tease of the art, it's tiny ;)

I don't think I could. This collection of artwork is the only thing I use for my wallpaper on my computer. People are always asking me about them.
 
Well, I just announced my newest game, The Oil Blue:

And it's all thanks to Orioto and his Worms piece. I stared at that picture for a good hour, wondering how I could make a game based around that beautiful idea of jutting rocks cutting through the blue ocean at night. I finally came up with an oil simulator.

Orioto, the closet I've seen to art like yours being realized in a game would have to be Braid, and it's not nearly close enough.

Loving the new pieces :)

Regarding my project, we are really busy now. I just did a storyboard for the artist who will do the intro. It's kind of sad but arty !
 
Wow...I've been using that Metroid wallpaper off IGN for a week or so now...and I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd seen it before.

...turns I recognized your style, not so much the picture :lol

Great stuff man, really love the atmosphere in these things.

Has anyone tried that cross-eyed thing on this, which is normally done on stereoscopic imagery? Sure it's not 3D, but sure as hell looks awesome.

That makes me want to see an Orioto filter in 3D games.
 
We are now finishing the demo for the IGF expo. it's little rushy ! But we should have 4 levels with basic mechanics and key scenarios of the game, and graphics and gui of course for Sunday. We'll have a trailer to with an intro and game footage !

Then we'll make the trailer public end of next week. This is exciting !

Well it's a puzzle oriented plateformer, nothing revolutionary at first sight, but physic elements and a strong game design make it really modern ! And the art of course.
 
pheew... demo finished after multiple tests, intro edited, trailer edited... It will submitted to IGF tomorrow ! Trailer for everyone Friday next.

They don't give a fuck as long as it's not something industrial. We're talking about 5 copies i sell myself. It's not something you can massively buy somewhere. And it's still my work and i don't use any copyright name actually. I didn't put a metroid tag for example :D

Wow that really is like one of your paintings come to life. Good work so far. I'm also digging the physics-based gameplay.

Did you do the "cutscene" artwork with the little girl as well?

We will need some hype to find a publisher hehe. i'm really invested in that, in all aspects (except programation !). After that hopfully, i can do some remake one day :p

Sorry i did not see the question at first.
No, the intro art is by an artist named Duke Mighten . it's done with some early artwork he kindly did. I only made a precise storyboard and script, then i edited the vid.
 
I hope this doesn't come off as offensive but i was more expecting a game that was all flash no substance.

But that genuinely looks like a fun game. It looks stunning and also looks like it would be fun and i would definitely be interested in getting a copy when it's finished.
