Overwatch gets Summer Games update (new mode in Weekly Brawl, new skins/etc)

There shouldn't have been duplicates PERIOD.
Currency should have been earned post-match like in Uncharted 4.
But Blizzard knows their fanbase are addicts and would throw money at them for digital garbage.

So yeah, I can't say I'm surprised at the lack of self control on display in this thread. Disappointed, but not surprised.

But hey, at least these whales are providing us free content
that drops at a slower rate than the SP + MP Uncharted 4
. Here's hoping we'll see a new map sometime this year!

But how I choose to spend my money if none of your business, and it also doesn't make me an addict.

At this point this whole kerfuffle is less about exploiting addicts and more about people whining that they can't get what they want, while simultaneously talking down and likely being jealous of people who do get lucky and are fine with spending money for the chance of doing so.

Everyone acting like Blizzard should have no event or no new cosmetics at all are wrong. I love when TF2 has halloween/christmas events every year.

The issue is the execution.

I agree with this. I look forward to WoW (and other MMO's over the years) holiday events every year. There are absolutely ways to do these things where it is fun for everyone involved. They're just holiday events for goodness sakes. They should be light hearted and just a blast to do without any worries whatsoever.

Is Lucioball hacked or bugged on console? Cuz I would sometimes get matches where the opposing team would have Junkrat and Zarya in their team.

How much do you have to spend to get all of the new guns and boosters in Uncharted 4 though?

I mean, being upset with how this event is handled is one thing, but comparing it to Uncharted 4? Come on.
I actually don't know, I stopped playing it when Overwatch came out lol

All I'm saying is that currency dropping post-match would have been better. No duplicates, no bullshit. Get something new everytime you earn/buy a loot box. I'm honestly kinda shocked that someone (you) is insinuating that earning duplicates for currency is a better system..

I've gone up 14 levels since the event started and all I've managed to snag are white and blue items, yet, when I ponied up for a x50 box I was getting purples and golds by the truck load, like every 3 or 4 boxes. Shenanigans!

I'm level 99 so I should be able to get quite a few loot boxes after I prestige. All I want is either Genji's or Tracer's skin god dammit.

Lucioball is actually pretty damn fun when you're competent enough at it. It's a fast way to get XP as well.

I actually really like the way Blizzard is handling this event. These new items actually have rarity value as only a limited number of people will be able to get them before the event ends. Where as the regular items, even the legendaries, have very little value as anyone can very easily get them.

You can still have rare items in a game but not have a manipulative shitty way to obtain them. I saw a reinhardt with a gold weapon last week and it was cool.

The system may suck but in the end it's all cosmetic stuff, which is better than putting anything gameplay related behind a paywall.

Spent way too much on boxes, but got just about everything except the new McCree. Hopefully he'll drop in an earned box, because I don't want to drop triple digits on this event.

They're only rare for poor people and those who can't play all day, so not really rare, exclusive is a better word and I don't like it at all. Us plebs just have to hope RNG Jesus is on our side.

Only if you couldn't literally purchase your way into obtaining them...

I'm not going to tell someone how to spend their money but by supporting poor practices you make developers continue to implement them.

Ah, thank you for illuminating why the use of 'rare' by Blizzard was annoying me. 'Exclusive' definitely feels a lot more accurate for the situation.

Why does it seem like Nepal has serious issues with the server crashing?

Only seems to happen in Nepal, but it happens A LOT.

I just got a dupe of Zarya's wrestling skin. Annoying. I also got Tracer's Track and Field skin but I wanted the blue one. I need to stop buying loot boxes..

I know others have said pretty much what I'm gonna say. But these event items are not really rare at all. A ton of people are just dropping wads of cash to get these items. I see just about as many tracers and zarya's with these new legendary skins as I see them using the vanilla legendaries.

Really the only people these items have a rarity value for are the people who can't or won't buy 50+ lootboxes while praing to rngesus that they get the skin(s) they paid out the ass to hopefully acquire.

But money just gets you more boxes, not better chances. I bought 50 and still didn't get the Tracer skins.

It's not my fault people spent their money on boxes to get credits instead of waiting to see what would happen in the next event. That's the only way it's seemingly a "bad practice" outside of the potential gambling aspect.

If more developers wish to craft games of Overwatch's quality and level of polish and put in the work and talent to do so then I fully intend to support them with my money the way I have no problem doing with Blizzard.

I don't see the problem here.

Maybe unpopular opinion: Those who exploit a bug to cheat and ruin the fun for everyone else should be banned, just the same as those who hack to cheat and ruin the fun for everyone else should get banned.

Well, in a '1-2 offenses ignored, 3-10 temp ban, 10+ long temp ban' sense. The bug is becoming more and more known, and having a half-over game stolen by a bug exploiter picking a gunner really kills the fun. Keeps happening now.

If you're talking about Lucio Ball, people don't "pick" a gunner. Whatever character you get when you trigger the bug is random. So some are just "luckier" than others. Either way though, there's no harm in reporting them if you feel they were not good sports by exploiting the bug. Just complaining about how they should be banned isn't going to do anything if you don't file reports.

When I happened upon a team with a soldier I decided to give it a go too just so I could fight the soldier while my team tries to score. Unfortunately I ended up with Roadhog.

yay got Zarya Champion skin. I would have preferred the red one but I'm ok with this. 100 times better than any other Zarya skin.

got nihon genji. kind of disappointing that the trail is green instead of red, but I understand why. i want the white lucio skin but there's no way I'm spending money. it's funny that blizzard keeps calling cosmetics "content".

Wow they're really dragging their heels on patching up the hero select exploit for lucioball. Just can't imagine they let that slide for the whole event.

One thing I noticed about the Summer Games boxes is the amount of Legendary skins seems drastically increased.

I played up to Level 48 post-Summer games and I think I got about 3 legendary skins in that time. I am level 61 now and I got at least 5 skins in those 13 boxes. I either got super lucky or here is a change behind the scenes in percentages per box. I even got back to back legenedies in two boxes yesterday.

I got Sprinter Skin and Hurdle Highlight for Tracer yesterday, but I never played much Tracer at all. Im now trying to play more of her as that combo is so great.

You just got super lucky. I have gotten over 20 boxes since SG started and gotten 2 or 3 legendary skins.

I hope my luck holds out then as I really want the Mercy "Eidgenossin." It may be the one thing that gets me to buy boxes if I still dont have one close to the end of the event.

I really want American mcree skin. I spent $20 on boxes for the first time. Got a few legendary skins and some epic ones though. Also, lucio ball is so much fun

Well here we have people paying hundreds of dollars for that content :D
