Overwatch League Announced

I actually think this is really cool! This is the first step to make esports become more like an actual sport. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Doing this through a series of city-based teams is the right move. Adding in regional loyalties gives people a team to root for, even if they're not already invested in the scene.

Ive only watched one video on the way LoL does this stuf but it sounds similar.

Making a good job out of this is real cool and m glad theyre thinking about team and player stability.

Good hype videos, but wew this is going to be really hard.

Riot, who has been doing this for seven years, is just now getting the point where players are compensated fairly, the infrastructure is in the place, and all of the other major decisions are starting to pay off. Valve, who has been doing this for six years, is STILL making major changes to the entire system.

Starting an entire league, with owners buying city slots, player contracts, manager contracts, combines, etc, from nothing is a monumental task.

As I mentioned in the OT, curious how they currently existing comp scene will transition to this city based structure, considering there are lots of big esports teams already with players who aren't from the same region.

Not to mention Blizzard + Starcraft 2 competitive was just a colossal failure on their part.

UnitLost streaming Sombra: https://www.twitch.tv/unitlost

She has a 60 mag smg and it shoots crazy fast.

PHENOMENAL. If only it weren't UnitLost, he bothers me.

But provides much needed details to her toolkit (limited inivisibility, 15 second availability for translocator, 200HP).

Also, the hack ability isn't solely reactionary, it can be used preemptively and eliminates all abilities from being used.

They're not really doing anything new that hasn't been tried in some form before. Although production level wise, it has the potential to be the best its ever been.

I haven't really followed esports too much. Do other leagues have teams set up by city?

A league called CGS (Championship Gaming Series) tried a lot of what Blizzard will be trying to do with Overwatch League and it was an unmitigated disaster due to various reasons and some of the people involved in it.

Generally speaking teams are just teams and can have players from around the world on a single squad, it's not unusual for people to move countries these days, but they're not defined by the country or city they come from.

Overwatch League sounds great on paper but Blizzard have massively mishandled anything related to competitive gaming. They're really going to have to prove to everyone that they can do this right.
