Wow, ok, so Hanakawa is right. How does Ougi know about Araragi's parents? This is some crazy mysterious stuff here. Araragi needs to wake up and start rememberin stuff..

Owarimonogatari 4

It's really been a while. Hanekawa really grew. It was very enjoyable seeing her laying smack to Ougi and break her suggestions.

Meanwhile, Sodachi:

Episode 4, bringing the contrast right into the open.

"You know everything, Hanekawa."
"I don't know everything, I just know what I know."
vs
"Ougi. What are you saying you know?"
"I don't know anything. It's what you know, Araragi-senpai."

Owari 04

Spooky, lies, suspicious, sleeves

This is so clear and so not clear at the same time. I swear Ougi is doing something with memory, but interestingly enough it works on Kanbaru and Nadeko but not Hanekawa. Maybe she is too smart for that? There are about 5,000 flags being thrown in every direction when it comes to Ougi but I gotta say that the shot when she appeared as a shadow behind Araragi was the top suspicious because...what the hell is Shinobu doing?

Anyway Ougi is entertaining as fuck

I actually view her similar to how the Purple Man works. She makes suggestions and people accept them. Maybe she can't influence Hanekawa because of her multiple inner personalities. But I'd accept being too smart too.

Ougi has vastly improved from previous seasons as a direct threat to Araragi. We know she did some heinous shit with Snake girl and Kaiki so she must have some long intricate plan to ruin everything. Glad Hanekawa came in and stopped her before it got bad. Loved the stand of between the two. This show continues to get more spooky each week. All hail spooky Ougi!

Owarimonogatari 4
I remembered Ougi's hands were shown before when she pretended to be a boy.
Anyway Araragi already has been shown to have completely failed one person and getting smacked real hard by a snake god repeatedly, thus needing Kaiki to sit him down and solve the problem.
Ougi is easily praying on this dumbass, really having no problem getting right in that personal space. She has been devising plans for a while now it seems, it's good that she got some intelligent opposition now with Hanekawa.

I think something is happening with Ougi before Hana when her actual arc comes up eventually that "makes" her male. Maybe Araragi's acceptance of what she truly is.

I was watching episode 4 and saw the part where Ougi "unzips" Arararagi's mouth and you see her hands, I was like "Oh, she's wearing gloves"

And then when it cut back to her, it dawned on me that she is wearing what seems like a full black body suit under her uniform which covers up all skin except her face. It just adds to her disturbing image.

Is this what she is wearing under the uniform?

I find Ougi to be a brilliantly written and extremely creepy character. Especially in the way she manipulates Araragi and the fact that he keeps saying things to her that he either doesn't mean, or things that he doesn't intend on saying.

People should try to get their hands on the translated commentary sub for Koimonogatari EP1.

Hanakawa & Ougi are doing their passive-aggresive thing for 20min while ignoring the episode itself. Nisio a god!

That's a pretty awesome suit. I hope we'll see her on this soon and it's not only an illustration. Also, I loved that Ougi was added to the show out of the blue. You start S2 and see a character for the first time, that casually talks with the Aragi. And then, this character keeps being weirder and weirder, her name being mentioned all the time for almost any misfortune.

Yeah I love that she just randomly appeared too, she just appeared and everyone knew who she was.

I've seen the same idea twice, in Buffy with Dawn, and in a Torchwood novel where the team suddenly gains a new member, and nobody questions it because he is rewriting their memories.

It's a really cool way to introduce a character.

I dunno if Ougi was pretending. Ougi seemed to forget that she was a boy now and then just readily accept it...which is weird to say the least.

I think of Ougi as genderless. People see Ougi as either male or female and nothing ever becomes of it.

I think its supposed to add to the unease of the character.

Ougi is probably some sort of shadow version of the character he/she is talking to, maybe that's why she is a girl when she's talking to Araragi and a boy when he was talking to Kanbaru.

I think of Ougi as genderless

I mean, he himself stated that he was a boy in Hanamonogatari so I'm pretty sure he isn't genderless, it's just that he can apparently swap it pretty easily, I guess it depends on the definition of "genderless" that one uses.

Kanbaru introduced her as a girl to Aragi. I think she is how she is now and changes. Hanamonogatari is set a bit later, so she might change in her own dedicated arc as result of whatever somebody does to her. Sounds vague, but I am not even sure if Araragi is the one handling her. Could be very well be one or all of the girls.

It's still odd that Ougi kinda forgot about the fact that he was a boy in Hanamonogatari. If it's some big event that happened to her or a conclusion of her arc something like turning into a boy doesn't seem like something you'd forget.

But hey, it's Ougi we're talking about, anything can happen with someone as weird as her.

Well, I don't know what will happen, but she didn't go down a long path of exploring her own gender and changing it, there were only a few months, maybe weeks time, so it has to be very sudden. I imagine it's weird to remember a new gender after spontaneously changing it. Like when your turn around in your bed and wonder for a short second why you are looking at an empty bedside. You know she left you, she even smashed grandma's old vase on her way out, but you still have a hard time getting used to that empty bedside, the lack of response when you do something stupid in the house and the unadorned finger.

Lol at Ougi being pwnd by Hanakawa's boobs. Another excellent episode overall since the conversations never get old. Looking forward to see how the meeting goes next week.

I know nothing about this show, but love this illustration. Reminds me of Kazuma Kaneko's coloring work and the 'something feels a bit creepy about this' vibe he has in his SMT characters.

It's the LN cover art. And yeah, the creaminess fits her personality perfectly.

Episode 5

No spooky Ougi at Halloween, what a travesty.

Nevertheless, a surprising episode. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but I was really invested in Sodachi's situation and how her story developed. Even if there is still something missing. Why can't Araragi remember? There is still something off about this.

Ep 5

I don't know what is going on exactly but you don't just forget that a girl lived with you for a while in sixth grade. I don't know if Ougi can erase memories and then give them back slowly or what but something is amiss.

I really enjoyed Hanekawa's cat like reflexes with the tea cup. This season has been great so far in general for me.

Ep 5

This episode actually left me feeling pretty emotional. We had an idea of how fucked up her life was, but she bares it all in this episode and it hits hard. Oikura's voice acting especially deserves props for being phenomenal.

Damn was this episode dark. Sodachi's VA gave an incredible performance of showing how broken she was with how bad her childhood was. I've read stories about child abuse and it resonated with me especially the part where Sodachi hated being in such a nice home when in contrast to her own. I love that she said that she knows she isn't the only one who has dealt with a harsh upbringing yet felt her emotions rise as she saw how happy other families were. Hanekawa has really stolen the show with her retorts against people and her general attitude is better. Plus she's dealt with child abuse which was arguably worse. The locked door puzzle makes me think her mother is dead in the room somewhere hidden which would be fucked up. Hoping for the best.
Have SHAFT head tilts gone too far?

Seriously. Oikura was someone that he knew in his early childhood and stayed in his home for a bit. Then he met her again later, every day, for a summer, in a quite weird way. And the same girl later is on his class and he has plenty of interactions with her. Can you really forget her like that? I really hope they'll have an explanation because this goes beyond bad memory.

I like to think that Ougi's actually got no body features at all. She's just a shapeless black humaniform and somewhat humanoid face we see is a mask. Think about it: her hands are black. Her eyes are black. You think she's just wearing stalkings but those are actually just her legs.

The mask is the only actual human feature, the rest of her is just blackness.

Which makes sense if Ougi is the darkness from Shinobu Time. The Darkness puts on a mask and a school girl outfit and decides to destroy Araragi's entire life. Since its goal is to make things 'right' then Araragi who 1) doesn't believe there is a /right/ anymore 2) gets called out by Oddities all the time for ignoring the natural boundaries between man and the supernatural, then it makes sense. Ougi sets up Nadeko in part to fill the absence of a God that Shinobu has left, but also to push Araragi into abusing his powers so that Araragi, in turn, can get punished for that during Tsukimono.

Nice theory, but she got sclera and a visible neck.

Even if Ougi is behind these memories problems, the show will still need to explain why she did that and why she is the one that made him remember these events. Personally, I doubt that Ougi will play an important role in this arc anymore. I'm actually afraid that they will leave it with Arararagi just having a very bad memory, as he didn't remember Sengoku, who actually remembered having met Oikura.

On another note, the true mystery for the next episode will probably be Oikura's mother. As I said on the anime thread, Hanekawa and Araragi kept mentioning the fact about the locked door.
It's very possible that her mother died or maybe had died long ago and was a ghost. As an oddity, it wouldn't be weird to, somehow, "seal" Araragi's memories, the person that Oikura thought was a savior at first. Maybe I'm overthinking the second part, but I'm pretty certain about Oikura's mother being dead, oddity or not.

Ougi was Oikura's mother
and father
.

Ok. Next arc is
Shinobu Mail, which is right after Shinobu Time, and also before Ougi Formula/Sodachi arcs. That would point to the Darkness...
Then there is a Senjougahara arc and finally, "Ougi Dark."
Yup

Whatever happens, Ougi can't just go away. Ougi was in Hanamonogatari which is still the last thing chronologically.

Hanekawa acting like a cat catching all those objects being thrown at arararararagi ( sorry i shuttered, not on purpose i swear ) ... ahem at arararararararagi was just perfect.

As for sodachi , what a nice voice performance. those 24 minutes went by the blink of an eye.
As for our MC , he really was walking on a thiin line, untill he manned up big time by the end.
Loving the way sodachi mother will become the main focus next

Ps: 1479 damage on the check can't heal over 2 nights of sleep , lol

Oh wow, that was a pretty emotional episode about Sodachi's past. Araragi truly is an idiot to forget about his past like that. I wonder if they will be able to find her mother after that whole conversation.

Which chapters are being adapted for anime? I read which ones are on book and hope one particular one will be adapted

I think I might know which one you are talking about but the name alone is kind of a shocker so I am not even gonna post it

Yeah, I feel we're on the same page here.

Only the first three chapters will be adapted this time right?

I wonder how they'll call the next batch of chapters. Owarimonogatari: Second Season would be confusing as hell lol.

Uh would it be the one that jumps out most when looking at titles? Because happy if so lol

And so all of it is getting adapted? Thought someone said they were leaving a few out. Too lazy to reread thread lol

Feel like this covers most of it.

Major arc name spoilers though, don't click on it.

Everything interesting said:
The anime will cover the "Ōgi Formula," "Sodachi Riddle," and "Sodachi Lost" chapters from the first novel, as well as the "
Shinobu Mail
" chapter from the second novel. Iwakami stated that the scenario for the Owarimonogatari novel series' third volume had already been written up, but that the production team was still deliberating on how best to present it, and that they would take a little more time to choose the best possible option for the story. The third novel covers the [REDACTED] chapters.
