Owarimonogatari [OT] Araragi's got 99 problems, but the vampire ain't one.

What is it anyway with blonde vampire females that can usually hang around in kid form, but turn adult with big breasts at times and is also legendary and powerful even for vampire standards? Between Dance in the Vampirebund, Negima and this, it seems weirdly specific.

I don't know, I wasn't disturbed by the Shinobu scene at all. I've seen the "vampire woman who can appear as a young girl" thing done tons of times before with series like Moon Phase and Negima, so it seems pretty normal to me at this point. I'd even go so far as to say that I actually really liked that scene. I also really liked the infamous toothbrush scene. The only fan service scene in the whole series that I can actually remember making me feel uncomfortable was when Yotsugi repeatedly tells Araragi that she is uncomfortable with his sexual harassment and then he does it anyway. None of the other girls seem to have a problem with his sexual harassment (that I can recall). Even Hachikuji seems weirdly okay with it.

I believe it's some kind of Stockholm complex for Hachikuji. I mean, getting harassed by Araragi practically all the social interaction she has all day while wandering around with no one able to see her in the location. Life's gotta be boring for her.

Which is one of the things I like about the series, since it speaks volumes about the character development Aragagi has gone through after starting out as little more than a martyr wannabe.

I feel like it's more because of the lack of villians picking fights. Or maybe because every recent villian has been too powerful or can't be fought by him (
Nadeko
/ Darkness/ Ougi)

Can't really recall what happened to the Specialist guy that was doing Oragami in Tsuki.

I mean, if he could do it Araragi would still gladly get his ass beaten as long as it would mean saving the girl.

He was ambushed by Yotsugi while Araragi distracted him. Not entirely sure if he was really surprised or is really dead. He looked so bored when he died. Or "died". Not really sure.

Yes, it's really good that most problems are not really punchable. Or at least punching them would solve nothing.

Problem is, he can't do it anymore. Nadeko fault. Well, his own stupidity anyway.... If he continues to use those powers he will lose his humanity, so there is that....

I'm trying to say that Araragi will always sacrifice himself if it means protecting others. He still does it in Shinobu time (
He says something along the lines of fleeing with Hachjikuji for his entire life)
and even in Tsukimonogatari (
(Distracting the specialist knowing that Shinobu will turn him into a vampire if the negotiations go south)
)

It's what I like the most about him actually, Araragi is actually my favorite character.

Anyhow, my basic point is that Araragi hasn't been fighting because fights haven't presented themselves in recent seasons, not because he has grown as a character.

And it's no Senjougahara, WTF. Senjougahara would say him without a second thought.

This actually started pretty good, covering almost everything in the PV, so it's 5 more episodes of new scenes. At first I thought the samurai was the Darkness but it seems that they're going to give a conclusion to the owner of Kokoro Watari. Well, considering that like 95% of his body was consumed by the darkness, there may still be a connection with Ougi... The samurai seems pretty strong and of course he was extremely creepy, talking with Araragi's voice. I also loved the way they tied it with Tsubasa's story.

It's a good thing that Yotsugi appeared at the end of the episode. Kanbaru is fine, but I can't stand her that much, so it's nice to see more characters so early. I mean, the 10 first minutes were her harassing Araragi...

Oh, I didn't like the new OP btw. It kinda lacked melody...

I swear, I need to watch with a piece of paper and a pencil to keep the overview when what happened.

Right off the bat I'm sad not to hear Shinobu sing an OP as her VA doesn't do character songs. The new OP looks great but I didn't enjoy the lack of vocals. It's great to have more Kanbaru as she hadn't been in the show in a while. It's fun to hear her exchanges with Araragi with dumb topics like virginity that later turn out more serious than you'd expect. The samurai cgi looked pretty terrible which ruined the fight. Strong start to the new arc which confirms the true OTP of this series. Sorry crab girl.

The best thing about this arc is that we'll probably get some adult Shinobu again because of the severed pairing between them.

Can she do that? If she could go full on Kiss-Shot wouldn't that be a gigantic problem? That was how Senjougahara managed to convince Nadeko not to kill Araragi because even she wouldn't be able to fight off Kiss-shot

Well, yeah, I don't expect her to be full power, but like Nisemonogatari, during her fight with Ononoki. It was said that Araragi is becoming more human because of that, so it's certain that Shinobu should be coming closer to her original physique.

Impressive episode , kanbaru is such an intresting character.
So many references to the past arcs .
Very great.
This arc should deliver big time.

So we're finally getting answers about what happened when he wanted to meet Kanbaru alone. Chariot's post is basically what my brain was doing during the episode while I pieced it together :P

I always like Kanbaru x Ararararagi solo time so it was a good episode for me. The little details like the cardboard bed still being there were a nice touch. Having read
Kizu
I'm interested in what
her first servant
showing up will lead to.

The first half kind of dragged since Nisio couldn't let go of a joke, but the second half was pretty solid.

And we covered pretty much everything from the trailer, so it's all new stuff from here on out baby~

Man, what a great start to a new arc! It's criminal that Kanbaru doesn't appear in the series more often. I'm really looking forward to seeing more Shinobu too.

I swear, I need to watch with a piece of paper and a pencil to keep the overview when what happened.

Thanks for that recap, you're awesome ^^

So why is the (someone brought up in monogatari SS)
original apparition killer
back? Had to rewatch the episode where Shinobu brought him up after the episode. Was wondering why the sword name and stuff seemed so familiar

Wow, what a good episode. Kanbaru virginity comments were hilarious and Araragi claiming he could only die with Shinobu was obvious, but stands out because of Senjougahara. That doll showing up again was fun too. Soooo many things from prior seasons you forget about when you watch the show.

Good point. I edited bits about him and his swords into my post. I also noticed that during Tsubasa Cat Hanekawa learns that Gaen and Sode. are in the city to do something. Gaen knows about the Tiger, but has something more important to do which she hired a vampire hunter for that don't want to fight anything else, but vampires. The
Original Apparition Killer
was turned into a Vampire and Yotsugi is involved in Gaens plan. I think we have a case here.

Also sorry mobile users, I hope this is manageable.

Just a reminder that no spoiler tags are needed for previously aired seasons in the OT thread since it's a given you should have already watched the previous seasons to have a clue what is going on, lol.

Episode 8

I found the episode a bit weak, as almost nothing happened until they met Shinobu. And Ononoki just appeared, did her..umm.. thing and left. It's interesting that it seems like there are some past apparitions on the mix though. We had the lost snail and now there's a monkey, which seems to have a crab hand based on the last instance. Vampire powers too... I also wonder what's Gaen role on this. She know everything and she seems powerful, but she seems to help when she has a benefit. Sounds a lot like Kaiki.

Anyway, at least we got some Ougi.

As far as I understood, there are all five apparitions to face that night, which is why Gaen asked Aragi which one he was up against. Don't you if Hanekawa or the Tiger count as Cat or if there will be a separate one.

Foot. And neck. And hand, leg, bossum, knee, belly, ... actually there are few parts of the body that aren't a shaft fetish.

Solid episode with best doll Ononoki stepping all over Araragi's face which is activating some kind of fetish for me. Kanbaru was extra cute this episode with the piggyback ride scene and her reaction to seeing the loli vampire slave. Is this the first time they've ever met each other? I can fully self-insert as Kanbaru this episode with her adoration of Shinobu. So cute!

i think the big difference between gaen and kaiki is that kaiki just pretends to know ( or pretends to not know ) in order to gain advantage. Gaen just know everything :)
Gaen in this episode going all " i'm joking about not knowing what i really know" was really clear.

Kaiki actually does know. That's the point of his character. He is the fake that in imitating the real thing is better than the real thing. He knows his shit, especially because he is a fraud. Even Gaen lamented when she arrived in Tsubasa Cat when she arrived that she would've liked to have Meme or Kaiki there to help. I am still unsure where Gaen stands. Kagenui is the real thing, Kaiki is the fake, Oshino is the inbetween. But where is Gaen in this? She seems to know a lot of details, but then again uses cold reading to get information.

This arc is a lot more interesting than the last one, mostly because Shuraragi gets to interact with a lot more people. I get that everything about Ougi being ominous is part of her character, but her interactions just dont click with me in the same way most of the casts' do. Kanbaru has been particularily on point these past two episodes.
The imagine spots she spawned in ep8 almost have Shokugeki no Soma's beat!

Someone at Shaft let their foot fetishism out this episode, sheesh.

Thought this was a pretty good episode, happy to see Shinobu back. I'm pretty interested in where this will go from here. I hope we get more Kanbaru reactions to Shinobu.

And there she is in all her Vampire glory, lol. For some reason, I wasn't expecting her under the swingset, but between Kanbaru bouncing like Tigger on in background and Shinobu smacking her head on the swing, that scene was really funny. Oh yeah, and that footprint...

I disagree . Kaiki does know things , but he doesn't know everything
It's pretty clear that he know his stuff ( around apparaitions and gods ) but has to observe first and make his own conclusion.
The whole conversation with senjougahara when she hired him to help during nadeko god-like situation clearly shows that he was indeed putting things together quite well and knew what he was doing. Same when he was investigating.
But contrary to Gaen that knows stuff before it happens and give orders before it , kaiki's small time IMO.
Kaiki is MUCH closer to oshino meme , in the sense that they react to stuff in front of them. Very good at picking clues and master at their own game. but so far away from Gaen realm of knowing when people would do and be able to place her own pawns before that. After all she is the only own capable to boldly claim that she knows "everything "

I'm unsure whenever "cold reading" is trully her way to get information. After some point , you can't just guess so many times and get it right everytime, you know ?
She brushes it aside by saying that she deducted, but to me that's exactly where she lies. No doubt in my mind that she has other means of acquiring information.

Of course Kaiki doesn't know everything, I didn't say that. I said he knows his shit.

My point is, that Gaen does not either. She has a vast information network thanks to her position in the occult community and does the rest with skilled social engineering. Like a stage mentalist who seems to seem to be in possession of supernatural powers she is able to give herself this divine aura. Well, in this case she is more like Zatanna mixing manipulation techniques with actual supernatural. She isn't a fake, but she isn't omnipotent either as far as I see it.
