Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 |OT| Perfect Pac-Man

So I've been playing the game a fair bit and I think I'm starting to come around on it. The objective is different -- you generally want to run through the early stages, and the later stages force you to eat most/all of the pellets anyway. The real trick then comes down to manipulating ghost trains so that you can eat them quickly, and there's some bizarre tech with them. I have had a couple of instances where I clipped through a ghost train and came out at its head (eating it instantly). That would be really nice to be able to do consistently (if possible).

One frustrating thing is how about 10-15 courses in a stage, you run into stages where the power pellet and fruit requirements don't line up and there's no way to know how close you are to the fruit when it spawns the pellet until after the ghost trains are all eaten. You can generally learn which stages this happens in over time, but it's annoying.

I also hate how the lives spawn with no audio prompt -- I constantly miss them, especially when they spawn on the last ghost train and I'm just holding down to move on. Again, you can learn roughly when they'll spawn but its still an annoyance.

And goddamn, extreme is really stressful with actually having to worry about ghost positions and constantly moving fruit and power pellets.

Now to brush up some of these crap runs where there's still a death in the mix.
A couple of those #1s we mine, ya jerk. :p

What the hell.

I haven't had much else to do this week.

So I've been playing the game a fair bit and I think I'm starting to come around on it. The objective is different -- you generally want to run through the early stages, and the later stages force you to eat most/all of the pellets anyway.

Yep. The standard CE/DX wisdom of "keep your dot combo up, but most of your points are in ghosts" holds true here, so blowing through boards that don't have lots of ghosts to reach one or two more that do is a net gain. Jim Sterling put up a gameplay video yesterday and he kept talking about how he wanted to 100% boards throughout an entire course for the bomb bonus points and it just made me ever so sad.

My rule of thumb here is that once you see two pellets in a row, you're officially in "eat fucking everything" territory for the rest of the run.

It's every million points. An audio cue would be nice, though.

Pac-steps better be in this game

I used nothing but Pac-Steps back in DX, but CE2's new music is good enough that it's fallen to being just one of many pieces I'm happy to play to. Excellent soundtrack.

Pac-Steps is awesome but I used it so much in the previous game that I find myself gravitating toward the new songs. Horinesian Sundance and Pac Toy-Box are my favorites, I especially like how the former is a more subtle remix than the in-your-face song used for the Dig Dug theme in DX+.

I haven't been following the entire thread, but has namco commented on what is going on with the controls? On a DS4 it simply feels unresponsive sometimes. I've missed so many turns thinking it had already read my input to turn.

This keeps happening to me and it drives me up the wall.

I loved Chsmpionship Edition DX, I'm guessing this new one is an insta-buy for me?

I played through part one of the tutorial, and a few rounds of score attack to lock adventure mode. I was wondering where all of the negativity was coming from... and then I played adventure mode which is (so far) just a tedious slog.

There's a demo to give a go if you want to try out the new mechanics.

This keeps happening to me and it drives me up the wall.

I've also had a few weird control moments (on ps4).

Man, finally got S in Regular! Kept getting 3.8M, 3.9M, sometimes even 4.0M, but had to watch some of the top scorers to see where I could earn extra points. Waiting around for a couple key extra lives, and really understanding the blue ghost patterns made the most difference. I *barely* scraped by into S territory, just north of 4.1M, but I'll take it. :)

Extreme is like learning to play all over again. I'm guessing an S will not come easily...

I didn't like this game all that much at first, but now it's all I can think about. LOL These 5-minute core SAs, like CE DX+, are the best parts of this game, and are SUPER-addictive.

Edit: Holy shit, Sciz!

Edit 2: Got the S Extreme trophy after a handful of tries... that one was surprisingly easy compared to Regular. I'm guessing the S threshold was more lenient. Now working on Adventure mode. I can't believe there are 6 sets of these. :P At least they're over in roughly a minute a piece (except for bosses). Very happy that this actually has a Platinum on the other side of this slog.

Edit 3: Oh, what? I have to 3 or 6 star all 97 Adventure mode stages just to get to the last boss and get the plat? Forget it... I'm no longer having fun with this. :(

We need to talk about the PC version, specifically the graphics options and menu UI.

The settings menu is unbelievably unacceptable. By default, you cannot set the game to windowed (or windowed borderless mode), and there's ZERO graphics options.

Compare this to the first game's options panel. Not to mention the game fully supports the mouse in the menus where PMCE2 does not whatsoever:

This bump just reminded me how bitter I am about Adventure mode. Still a fun game overall, but I haven't touched it since my last post.

As a fan of DX+, I had to purchase it.

Been playing through score attack. Except for the practice stages (which I haven't touched yet), I've gotten A's and B's on everything.

Currently proud of my S on Jumping Regular, which put me in 12th place. This is on XBOX One, btw.

I was a little turned off with some of the new mechanics but the more you play, the more things click. I don't think I will ever enjoy chasing ghosts around though, lol. Can get frustrating at times.

Fun game that will definitely get some playtime but probably not as much as DX+

So I bought this off the psn sale and tried it for about 45 minutes. The game feels like a goddamn mess. CE was perfection, CEDX was almost perfection, what the fuck happened here :(

If you guys want to add me my PSNID is on my profile here (also for other classic arcade games leaderboards!)

But I really wish the original CE would get ported to PS4 :(

I'd like to know this as well. I loved that game, and wished they would release it on PS4 for so long. I'm hoping this has everything DX did and more but it sounds relatively different. Anyone able to weigh in?

How does this compare to Pac-Man Championship Edition DX?

There's a demo, guys :)
