CONFIRMED!
Dr. Zoidberg said:Seriously, though. Does the stock price tanking make it cheaper/easier for another company to purchase? I know T2 isn't in the best financial health.

Market cap slightly above 1 billion dollar. That's not pocket change.
Son of Godzilla said:Because Sony didn't spend all of last week going on about how they are letting GTA4 be a multiplatform release and secured something else for the future. It's incredibly believable that Sony moneyhatted a day and date release of GTA, especially because them giving TT permission to release it on the 360 MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

It boggles the mind that $200M of stocks evaporated like that.

crazyscreenwriter said:Well, they still have to agree to a sale and... It would take a lot still, and TakeTwo still has value as a company.
But didn't they try to sell TakeTwo in the Spring and there were no takers? Or was that just a rumor? I know there has been an on-going stockholder rebellion at T2.
This thread needs speculawyer.
Ugh... Of course no one believes Sony let R* go multiplatform. The thing is, how the hell does something like that even get said? It makes no sense unless the deal they reached about a multiplatform release was really about whether or not the PS3 version would come out after the 360.theBishop said:I'm sorry... I guess I didn't think anyone actually believed Tretton when he implied that Sony had something to say in the matter.
BTW: if Sony had the kind of authority over Rockstar that would retain exclusivity (unless they let it go multiplat), why would they have to moneyhat a day-and-date release? I'm sorry, but your post does not make sense.
MercuryLS said:Making a PS3 SKU caused Kane and Lynch's delay, making a X360 SKU caused a DMC4 delay.
In this case I agree that it seems like both versions are behind schedule. PS3 version has never been shown and the X360 version was shown with bad framerates and pop-up. It's a shame, but we'll get a better product in the end.
This gen is a whole lot of waiting, I love these really epic and ambitious games but waiting for them sucks. Next-gen is going to be even worse with large budgets and more workers and man hours needed to make a AAA title. At some point there needs to be a limit, I don't want to wait 4 years with X720/PS4 for a AAA GTA :/
Hell even this gen I'll be surprised if we get 2 GTAs on X360/PS3.

this game is going to disappoint.
mckmas8808 said:First of all your are crazy. They will have the engine built at GTA IV. We will really get at least 2 GTAs for the PS3 and 360.
Tiktaalik said:This may be true, but N'Gai's article sounds right to me too, and it's backed up by recent impressions of GTA4 that criticized the game heavily for the bad framerate and lacking graphics. Even if the PS3 version was having difficulties, I think the 360 version was also weak enough to justify a delay.
MercuryLS said:Yeah they'll barely be able to make 2 GTA's this gen, last gen we got 3.

theBishop said:But whatever the deal was, you have to agree that Microsoft paid more than Sony. Considering Microsoft paid more for two pieces of GTA DLC than Sony spent on this: http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/803/803246/killzone-2-20070711011951519.jpg
I think its safe to assume that Rockstar owes a lot more to MS than Sony right now.

laceystorm said:Analyst questions Rockstar's capability
No doubt making himself popular with Sony, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has stated that he believes the complexity of development for the PS3 platform has resulted in the delay of Grand Theft Auto IV from October 2007 until Q2 2008.
Pachter believes publisher Rockstar have a contractual obligation to Sony, which means the Xbox 360 cannot get GTA IV before the PS3, hence why both versions of the title have been delayed despite the development issues primarily surrounding the PS3.
"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," Pachter states.
"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version."
Pachter hints that Take-Two shareholders are unlikely to be greatly pleased by this delay, hinting that procedural issues at the firm may be partly to blame for this slippage.
"While the delay of GTA IV was clearly not the fault of new management, we believe that it should have been better understood several months ago, and should have been communicated to investors much earlier than today," Pachter comments.
"The company has begun an initiative to improve the green light process for new projects, but given the delays of Manhunt and GTA, its process for monitoring projects under development appears to be a failure."
