‘Dead Island: Riptide’ goes one week better than its predecessor by holding on to No1 for a third consecutive week, despite a 55% drop in sales.

‘Bioshock Infinite’ is the only other title so far this year to record three consecutive weeks at No1. Competition for top spot comes in the form of an unexpected familiar face, ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (+60%) which climbs 4 places to No2, boosted by strong retailer price promotions only 2 weeks after dropping out of the Top 10 for the first time.

‘Tomb Raider’ (-17%) clings on to No3 for a second week, while ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ (-36%) falls from No2 to No4. ‘FIFA 13’ (-19%) is still making its presence felt despite slipping one place to No5, keeping it ahead of ‘Bioshock Infinite’ (-10%) at No6. Recently budget-priced ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (+25%) is back in the Top 10 at No7 meaning that all Top 7 titles this week are former No1’s. 3DS title ‘Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins’ (-24%) is stuck at No8 for a third week, ahead of this week’s highest new entry ‘The Walking Dead’ from Telltale Games and Avanquest - now available on disc after previously being a digital-only title released episodically through Xbox Live, PSN and Steam.

‘Luigi’s Mansion 2’ (-12%) at No10 keeps this week’s only other new entry out of the Top 10 with PQube’s critically acclaimed ‘Persona 4 Arena’ having to settle for a debut at No11.

It's a genre not popular in Europe or America. Without the MH brand recognition and on a platform with a tiny installed base.

It could be the most marketed game ever and it would still have bombed. It's the wrong game on the wrong platform in the wrong market. This one really only has a market in Japan.

Guacamelee! also took the top spot on the PS Vita chart, and actually outsold the PS3 version by a significant margin. Soul Sacrifice debuted at number five, though was only on sale for one day of the month, with Draw Slasher entering at nine.

How ironic it would be if Lego City Undercover turned out to be a system seller... for the 3DS.

I'm pretty surprised seeing Lego City doing this well across all Europe. Especially seeing cases like Italy, where the title went up from 7th to 1st in its second week. But probably it's due to availability problems, like Luigi's Mansion 2's absence for two weeks.

But still, I remembered LEGO titles were quite strong just in UK (and US), while elsewhere weren't such big sellers. Probably I don't remember well, though...

It makes sense though. The people who have forked out for a Wii U already are probably not the audience that would generally be interested in Lego games. Whereas the 3DS has been priced very aggressively for the past couple of Christmas seasons and so was undoubtedly in the stockings of many kids.

I think that's why, to most people who didn't play the first game it's something fresh and new amidst a sea of similar titles, there's not really anything directly comparable to it.

Plus it appeals to a wider range of people than most games, (arguably) ended a 3DS games drought, has been advertised quite heavily, there's the buy 3 get 1 free offer and it's received great reviews.
